Superficially, a great episode. The meeting between Daenerys and Jon was well scripted and believable.
But I agree with the earlier comments that the speed of movement of people and armies, and the convenient destruction of Daenerys' allies, seem far too contrived for a series which has previously been almost devoid of plot flaws and inconsistencies.
I'll be interested to see what is written in the scripts that Sam Tarley has been commanded to copy out. I suspect they'll be crucial to the forthcoming battle with the White Walkers.

Yeah I thought the scripts might be important as well, but maybe for other reasons, as they know about the dragonglass and have access to it, that will kill them, so the battle is equal now. The Euron dragging along Yara and the Sand Snakes annoyed me as well, like they'd even know who he is, and who he had with them, and this after Cersei blows up the Sept. I know Jaime made some throwaway comment about they were doing that to Cersei some months before, but would people really see Cersei's enemies as enemies, or would they have turned on the Lannisters?

Great episode, possibly the best so far this season (although the opener had a lot going for it).
Loved: - The Lady of Thorns' send-off. Most dignified and satisfying death of a 'good' character in GoT? I think so. I'm sad as I thought she was fab but if you have to go at all, that's the way to do it. - Varys and Melisandre's scene. Very intriguing - Davos in general - The Casterly Rock battle scenes, such as they can be called that, were very well-done - the misdirection with 'this is how you think it's going to go' followed by 'this is what actually happens'. I loved that they found a use for Tyrion's mention several seasons ago that he'd been put in charge of the sewers. Brilliant - The fact that this episode mostly side-stepped the big, actiony set-pieces and concentrated on the small scenes. The dialogue-writing has lost some of its sparkle but I loved a lot of the conversation-based scenes we had this week.
Liked: - Jon and Daenerys' scenes together, for the most part - although Daenerys is HUGELY annoying at the moment. - The dispatching of Ellaria and the last remaining Sand Snake. Cersei at her cruelest and best. I like that she's abandoning all pretense with Jaime now; pretending to still care about appearances at this point would be a little silly. - Nice to see the dragons again, though I hope we are going to see them used in battle at some point. - I actually quite enjoyed how ridiculously camp Euron was this week. I can't see him making it out of the season alive but even so, he's entertaining for now.
Disliked: - I understand that Bran is the three-eyed raven now and basically no longer has enough brain space for his own personality, but his whole thing to Sansa with 'you looked so pretty that night you had to marry a psycho who then raped you' felt needlessly cold and creepy. - Game of Thrones' pacing has always been a little weird to me, so I guess I just assume that when a scene follows another, it can mean that it's been five minutes or five days or five weeks between them. We can assume that Jon and Davos took a long time to get to Dragonstone, so it makes sense for the Unsullied to be at Casterly Rock by now. That said... Jaime's jumping around was badly done, and even I can't make the timeframe fit.

It annoys me as to how big the Lannister army is! Didn't they just have a war with Stannis Baratheon, where they were nearly wiped out, only to be saved by the Tyrells? And now the Tyrells have no army to fight the Lannisters when they come to wipe them out? Seeing Randyll Tarly as Jaime's second-in-command kind of answered that question for me. The Lannisters have the numbers now because they were able to persuade a lot of Olenna's bannermen to swap sides and fight for Cersei. True, nobody likes Cersei but Olenna has allied with Daenerys, the scary foreign invader who has a history of crucifying and burning people. I can buy that a lot of Tyrell bannermen have gone with the devil they know. (Handily this also explains why Olenna's army evaporated). As for just having fought Stannis, that was Season 2, let's not forget. Several years ago, even in show-time. With all the great houses who have fallen since then, it's not inconceivable that a lot of the survivors would have allied with the Lannisters out of fear. I'm not entirely sure that the majority of Dornishmen really care about what happened to Ellaria and her daughters - they did after all murder Prince Doran and his son. As far as we know (Oberyn is supposed to have more daughters but we haven't seen any others), the Martell line has been wiped out, and there are no obvious successors to take over. The Dornish probably have their own problems right now without worrying about Cersei or Daenerys. It is a bit weird that Ellaria is supposed to have had this whole army that we've basically not heard mention of. But now, we assume, they are leaderless. Sure, there are other great houses in Dorne but we literally don't know a thing about them. I foresee that someone from Daenerys' camp will head down there and try to win them back at some point, but hopefully they will tie up the loose end one way or another.

I wondered if that scene with Cersei and Jamie and them being seen in bed together may have some future significance/reference? Just remember the face of the girl/woman who came with the message is all I'm saying...

I was wondering if that girl will end up being killed by Arya and her face will be stolen when she comes to kill Cersei...

Some great theories and observations in the preceding posts.
I must admit I thought the Varys / Melisandre exchange was especially significant, though I haven't a clue why.
And I became an huge fan of Euron last night. His throne room performance was outstanding. Could he become the really evil figure that I want to survive ? He and Cersei would be dynamite if they coupled up.
Going up my GOT chart this week:- Euron (superbly OTT), Davos (wise counsel), Sansa (properly getting to grips with Little Finger)
Going down my GOT chart this week:- Jaime (becoming a pawn ?), Bran (dull), Ellaria (you need to do more than rattle your chains)

Going down in my estimations... Tyrion!
Yet another 'clever' plan gone totally wrong due to underestimating his sister. How Dany has not questioned his loyalty so far is a bigger mystery than Gendry's whereabouts!

I love watching GOT but never seem to take a lot in and remember or think outside the box.
Its like I need to re-watch as your thoughts make me think.

That's why it is such a great show. On the one hand, it is fabulous escapist fantasy, with intrigues, set piece battles, and sex. On the other hand, you can immerse yourself in the world they have created, and spend hours of your life joining the dots and trying to predict the future. If you don't already watch it, then I also recommend Thronecast. This reviews each show, gets into some of the minutiae of GOT, and has cast members along as special guests. And it does this with a sense of humour.

Going down in my estimations... Tyrion! Yet another 'clever' plan gone totally wrong due to underestimating his sister. How Dany has not questioned his loyalty so far is a bigger mystery than Gendry's whereabouts! Err, that's the plot writers making us believe that Olenna (the great reader of people) wouldn't have foreseen that Cersei (huge debts) would want her gold, and so Olenna have moved it somewhere else. Also the Banky people were over what 1 2 or 3 seasons ago wanting their debt paid, and it hasn't been, now they reappear having done nothing, just so Cersei can surprise us and take Olenna's gold. Believable, no. And then to add in that Tyrion was the treasurer at King's Landing and knew they had no gold, and he wouldn't have thought of what Cersei might do?

Bad writing or not, that's where we're at with this and so Tyrion is useless.

And anyway, why would Tyrion know that Cersei had no gold? As far as he was aware Casterly Rock was still a gold mine (literally), Tywin only told Cersei that it was running empty.

Bad writing or not, that's where we're at with this and so Tyrion is useless. Ahh but there is a fan theory that Varys is leaking all the plans to Cersei. It backs up his loyalty interrogation by Daenyrs in that he totally lied to her and he is playing both sides. This also may explain why Melisandre was so full of foreboding when she spoke to him , he is going to get found out and be a goner very soon methinks.

There's definitely something going on with Varys and that wouldn't be a disappointing end to his part of the story in my view. But I just struggle to understand his reasoning. They'd need to do a good job of explaining it.

Who was it that Eunoched him? In the books, he wants chaos in the 7 kingdoms, so Cersei is the better option.

Didn't Varys have the guy who cut him in a box a few seasons ago?

I was wondering this myself, although I hope it's not true, a) because I love Varys and I'd really like to think better of him than that, and b) because it does seem a little too obvious. However, it would explain how easily Cersei and Jaime have been able to outplay Daenerys, and it also serves to remind us that Varys is loyal to what he thinks is best for the people, not to individual lords/kings. Perhaps he's concluded that the threat of dragons, and Daenerys' decision to take advice from scary red priestesses, mean that she's no longer the best option for the realm...
