2 weeks for 19, Toyah goes top 5 and Animotion are runners-up, Bryan Ferry is back in the top 10, ditto Eurythmics and David Cassidy, and Divine's SAW Four Seasons cover with the funny video is at 10. Top 20 bound are Kim Wilde, U2, Go West and Belouis Some with the track that never got to be the big hit it deserved - Imagination.

The Style Council and Bond-themed Duran Duran jump nicely into the 40, as A Taste Of Honey return with their 1978 smash, the highest new entry. Depeche Mode have a big climb, and new in it's REO Speedwagon, who hit the top spot in 1981, actor Rick Springfield, Elvis Costello, China Crisis, Gary Moore & Phil Lynott's goodie, Marillion's best record, another Prince great, Dan Hartman, Kool & The Gang, Francis Rossi abandoning the Status Quo, Jermaine Jackson, and sneaking in at the lower end Roy Wood some 12 years after his first solo entry Dear Elaine, 13 years after his ELO and Wizzard debut, and 16 years since Blackberry Way topped my chart for The Move some 6 months after my first charts. Roy also topped my chart with ELO and Wizzard and solo. I was a fan.

From fires to walls tumbling down... this chart is dated week ending 25 May 1985 and how was I to know what would happen 4 days later?

In any case it's more about breaking down barriers through protest. This song was played quite a lot on the radio 4 years later when the Berlin Wall came down. And on this chart it gives the Style Council their 2nd #1, having got there with their first hit "Speak Like A Child".

Stephen Duffy continues to entertain us with his style of pop, then we have Billy Ocean slowing it down with a ballad. I always felt this was a bit of his "Hello" if Caribbean Queen was his "Billie Jean".

Then an instrumental hit used in Beverly Hills Cop, named after the key character "Axel Foley". Actually a thought: wouldn't it be interesting if, in the future, you would walk around and could carry a phone with you so people could call you wherever you are. And maybe given lots of others will be carrying them, different people would have them ring differently. Maybe this tune would make a good ring for that...

OMD get another hit. Not a big one in the UK but I think this was their biggest US hit?

And like Steve Arrington recently, Skipworth & Turner try to sound like Stevie Wonder did in the past, and maybe we need them given what the man himself did last year.
