Juice Newton's Angel Of The Morning was one of my favourite records of 1981 criminally ignored by the UK.

I considered that Motorhead & Girlschool duet for the current round of Rock Idol. It has all 3 factors: is a cover, a collaboration and is certainly rock.
For me though that Styx song stormed to #1. Dire Straits also got to #1 in my chart, replacing Ultravox. The album "Paradise Theatre" (which on the album is spelt both as Theatre and Theater in different places) was my #1 album of 1981 and one of my favourite of all time. However "The Best Of Times" was not my top single of 1981. That falls to a song by a female vocalist that has a big saxophone solo in it... I'll see how that does later on in the year in your chart.

Featuring at the time the most expensive video ever made (something MJ reset on three separate occasions) is this Retro Rewind Chart topper. Eleven more entries this week from:
- The more mid 1960s Kinksian sounding social commentary track about depression written by Mike Barson managed to peak at UK #4 & Australia #82 despite its departure from their earlier 2-Tone/Ska sound.
- The Dutch studio based session group assembled producer Jaap Eggermont (former drummer of Golden Earring) debut single was this proto Jive Bunny medley of a number of The Beatles songs over a Euro Disco beat. The result was a near global #1 smash hit topping the charts nearly everywhere including USA #1, Australia #1, Canada #1 & UK #2.
- The USA #28 & UK #14 cover of the 1980 funk disco song written by Chaz Jankel and Kenny Young, featured vocals by Dune (a.k.a. Charles May) and Patti Austin, taken from the album The Dude.
- This keyboard dominating R&B new wave track was a stand alone release as ever written & produced by Prince, which sadly failed to trouble the charts.
- This USA #22 jazz pop rock track from Gaucho was Walter Becker and Donald Fagen's last chart release, and indeed their last release until the year 2000.
- The Sheffield synth pop duo of Marc Almond & Dave Ball debut release on Some Bizzare records, which failed to chart but created a lot of media interest.
- The New Jersey pop country artist's AOR take on this great Chip Taylor penned standard from 1968 hit USA #4 (AC #1), Canada #1, & Australia #2, but remained unloved in the UK stalling at #43, understandably because PP Arnold's version surely remains the definitive version.
- The Canadian rock band's soft rock track penned by Myles Goodwyn from their Nature Of The Beast album reached Canada #6, USA #21 & UK #52.
- The American songwriter's soft rock USA #11 (AC #5) single from his latest album Dad Loves His Work was written with J.D. Souther & Waddy Wachtel was written about Betsy Asher, who had recently divorced from Taylor's long time manager and producer Peter Asher. It would be his final top 40 single to date.
- This Steve Cropper produced 4th album Nothin' Matters and What If It Did featured this self penned USA #17 hit which the heartland rocker hated, as it was written in order to score a hit single.
- The Italian orchestra film score composer 1971 composition was used in the films Maddalena (1971) and Le Professionnel (1981), as well as in the television series An Englishman's Castle and The Life and Times of David Lloyd George. Because of its appearance on the latter television programme, it reached UK #2.

My favourite version of Angel Of The Morning is actually Merrilee Rush That version reached #4 in my chart in 1968 but don't know how it did in raliverpool's chart. Given that raliverpool was the only one not to give any points to Bucks Fizz in the best of UK Eurovision, it is not surprising that it wasn't a big hit on this chart.
