My featured faller is the fourth and final single released from the New York rapper's third album, Raising Hell co-produced by Rick Rubin. My highest new entry is the Nelson Mandela/South Africa apartheid inspired Glyn Johns produced UK #4 hit. His first tchart hit for 15 years. The song was written in 1984, inspired by a television documentary on Apartheid South Africa seen by Siffre in which white soldiers were filmed shooting at black civilians in the street. This song was offered to and rejected by Michael Jackson; Lionel Richie; & Diana Ross before he recorded it himself. It won the Ivor Novello Award for "Best Song Musically and Lyrically", and has been used in Amnesty International campaigns, and Alice Walker's film against female genital mutilation: Warrior Marks.

Never knew Labi Siffre's Something Inside had been offered to some Motown artists.
I'm assuming it was offered to Richie & Ross as a solo?

My latest Retro Rewind chart topper is the lead single from the synth pop duo's second studio album, Actually produced by Julian Mendelsohn & Stephen Hague. The European #1 hit including UK #1, and USA #9, Australia #10, & Canada #8 song featured a Derek Jarman directed video is a description of Tennant's Catholic upbringing and education at St Cuthbert's High School in Newcastle upon Tyne, implying that everything that is perceived to be pleasurable in life is regarded as sinful.
My highest new entry is the (mystery) musical project headed by Andros Georgiou, which featured Nick Heyward on guitar; Mick Talbot (Style Council/Dexys Midnight Runners) on keyboards and Georgiou's second cousin George Michael on lead vocals on this UK top ten cover of the 1975 Bee Gees classic.
My featured faller is the third single but first UK top 100 hit (UK #86) by the Scottish indie rock band, taken from their debut album Sonic Flower Groove.

This power ballad cover of the 1983 song song composed by Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly was taken from the Canadian rock band's 1987 album Bad Animals topped the charts in Canada & the USA (where it was the Y/End Best & 2nd Best seller respectively), as well as UK #3 & Australia #6.
My highest new entry is the Scottish blue eyed soul brothers Pat Kane (vocals) and Greg Kane (music/production) with their second single from their debut album, Seduced and Abandoned. This UK #6 hit was written attacking Margaret Thatcher & the Conservative Government.
My featured faller was this rock track taken from the Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack. The music was written by Harold Faltermeyer, who also wrote the score for the film, and Keith Forsey, with lyrics by Seger. It stalled at UK #88, but reached Australia #9, & #1 in the USA & Canada. This was Seger's only chart topper, and his last of 15 USA top 20 hits; and it featured ex-Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor.

LP Terence Trent D'Arby - Who's Loving You (1LP Introducing The Hardline According To)
Debuting at #1 on my Retro Rewind Chart is the seminal Manchester indie synthpop quartet with this Stephen Hague co-production. Accompanied by a surreal music video directed and choreographed by Philippe Decouflé and produced by Michael H. Shamberg this single peaked at UK #4, USA #32, Canada #53, Australia #8. Lyrically, this song is about the realization of the narrator when they've grown sexually aware that they were sexually abused as a child. Hence on a number of occasions Bernard Sumner has sung replacing the first lines of the second verse with the lyrics "When I was a very small boy, Michael Jackson played with me. Now that we've grown up together, he's playing with my willy."
My featured faller is the American singer's version of the Leonard Cohen song (before he recovered it six month's later on his I'm Your Man album). Featuring Stevie Ray Vaughan on guitar this stalled at UK #74, Canada #43, & Australia #32.

Re: my Highest new entry. As of January 2019 I had done all my Retro Rewind Charts up to the end of 1989. But then I became aware of the Leaving Neverland documentary, which when added with all the previous allegations and evidence available (before & since, such as the revelation the FBI investigated him in 1983/4 over child abuse allegations dating back to 1979) before President Reagan shut it down) leaves me with little doubt that the self proclaimed King Of Pop was a serial child abuser. Hence, I decided to freeze posting these charts as I wondered whether to go back to these charts and erase his music from them. Ultimately, much like with Morrissey turning into a vile far right racist as (yet again) his derogatory comments in the last 24 hours with regards quoting Katie Hopkins; & President Trump over "Khan’s Londonistan" & going mental over the current World Cup Cricket match in Manchester "Not one white face in the crowd" I've decided to focus on the music for the benefit of this chart, and others going forward as after all it is a Retro chart...... so .....
This global number one hit was the first single from the follow up to the best selling Thriller album, was originally written with Whitney Houston as his first choice of duet partner on this soppy ballad. However, Arista Records chairman Clive Davis claims he turned it down because he was aware of MJ's industry reputation for his unusual sexual preferences, so wanted to avoid; then MJ asked Barbra Streisand to be the duet partner, but she turned it down because of the lyrics and the age difference between the pair and "Besides, it's not that good a song". So at the last minute he turned to the industry backing vocalist, and songwriter of his then future album cut "Man In The Mirror".
My featured faller is the English avant-garde synth-pop group of engineer/producer Gary Langan and programmer J. J. Jeczalik, along with arranger Anne Dudley with their UK #60 updating of the theme of "Dragnet" to coincide with the Hollywood film remake. However, the video is hilarious.

My highest new entry is this USA #2, UK #11 Sign O' The Times album cut which musically is a standard 12-bar rock song with emphasis on the contrast between heavy drum beats by a LinnDrum drum machine and Sheila E.'s live percussion, and a vastly distorted almost completely saturated guitar sound. Although not credited on the single release, the song also features Scottish recording artist Sheena Easton, who sings with Prince in his sped-up "Camille" voice.
The dance pop UK #24 title track (co-written with Lamont Dozier) of the debut solo album by the Culture Club singer was written about South Africa.
