4. Earl Purple (83 points) The Who – Substitute
Only 11 points separating 8th and 4th just shows the struggle everyone had separating great songs from great songs, in the end its solitary 15 point score from Thorney gave it the edge over “Daydream Believer” He should have submitted My Generation IMHO.

3. Raliverpool (104 points) Rolling Stones - Paint It Black
Maybe not a huge surprise to see this break the 100 point mark and with the other two Stones songs struggling it was always likely it might have to settle for a placed finish. Quite a big gap from 4th to 3rd though, it only claimed 2 top points from 17 votes however they both came from his nearest rivals Andy and Earl Purple

2. Shireblogger (108 points) CCR - Bad Moon Rising
Just edging out Paint it Black is this fantastic Creedence Clearwater Revival track, glad someone entered it after I opted from Fortunate Son, Milliways gave it his top marks, that means top spot again goes to…

1. Andy (139 points) Animals – House of The Rising Sun
I have to say I never expected this to win but it got double the top points of anything else, Hupin, Whitneyfan, Smokeyb and Manic, then to top it off Greendemon gave it her 12 with the last set of votes, this should make the overall leaderboard very interesting, I make that 4 wins for Andy now

Probably one of my least favourite songs of all time, but I do have a habit of swimming against the tide of popular opinion in this contest so far.

Think it's the 3rd time Shireblogger has been runner up without a win

Raliverpool retains his top spot, but Andy closes the gap to just 10 points in 2nd, Shireblogger is putting the pressure on Greendemon after back to back 100+ point scores, Smokeyb takes advantage of the poor round for Thorney and Manic to leapfrog them into 6th. Meanwhile at the bottom Milliways draws level with Big Dan

Pleasantly surprised House of the Rising Sun did so well - I was all set to give it my 15 points and then happened upon the Stooges.

Pleasantly surprised House of the Rising Sun did so well - I was all set to give it my 15 points and then happened upon the Stooges. I expected it to win, but not by that relatively large margin. I feared that Paint It Black would do worse, when it was submitted along with two other Rolling Stones tracks, which had I have known in hindsight I would have instead entered The Beatles - Come Together. But all in all 13 great tracks submitted.

yeah the next round was guilty of "too many of the same acts" but will be interesting how they do when comparing them against 2 or 3 songs from the same artist

I didn't give the top two any points, although neither were bad songs.
I thought I might do slightly better, but White Rabbit was a comparatively obscure choice compared to some others in this round.

7. Milliways (75 points) - The Honeycombs - Have I The Right
Probably the song I knew least about coming into this round, it has since been added to my 60's playlist, its a classic example of lovely catchy pop rock of the 60's and it did very well in such a strong field Far too low

I thought this was a very tough round to forecast. I could easily have given every song big points. But I am surprised that 19th Nervous Breakdown was last. It really is one of the Stones' best songs.
Bad Moon Rising was a safe bet for a strong finish. For those of us who first heard it in An American Werewolf In London, it was a high impact song. And it somehow doesn't seem to age.
