Refuse Manoeuvres in the Dark perform the song called (I’ve Lost All My Respect for You) Since the Bin-Men Went on Strike.
The first release on Paradise Circus Records is being promoted on a website called Paradise Circus and will be available on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon and Google Play.
The lyrics include the lines: “....You’ve been bitching in the yard about the inconvenience and how life got so hard
“Let the men and women of refuse exercise their right
“I’ve lost all my respect for you since the bin men went on strike.”
In a blog posted on September 11, the site’s director of satire Howard Wilkinson said: “It’s like the bin made a record. So we’re putting it out, and leaving it out.
“The way the strike has been covered in the media has created a bit of a bad smell with a lot of rubbish spoken, recycled with dumb opinions all over social media.
“No-one goes on strike lightly, it’s always a last resort for workers to give up pay to protest, and we felt that they needed to hear that a lot of Brummies appreciate how hard they work to keep our city clean and the collections safe.
“Without our refuse workers things have wheely bin bad, and that shows how much we need them.
“We hope the single is picked up, and makes a clean sweep in the charts.”
Where has the song come from?
It is being promoted on the website Paradise Circus, described as a "Birmingham Miscellany... an ongoing love letter to a battered city. It writes, makes and records things about Birmingham".
The people behind Paradise Circus include Jon Bounds, Jon Hickman, Craig Hamilton and Danny Smith and “a number of other people who want to contribute to a conversation about what the city is, was, and could be”.
Paradise Circus has grown out of the former website Birmingham: it’s not sh*t – the anagram for which was the rather prophetic B:INS.
