1987. The Warlocks – Shake The Dope Out www.youtube.com/watch?v=AG8kb20SmcEMe and Hupin saw these guys in 2003 at T in The Park, I think they played fairly early on the main stage, a kinda psychedelic shoegaze drug rock band with 2 drummers, they were certainly a joy to watch live and had a few great songs in the mid 00's, Come Save Us and Hurricane Heart Attack just miss out onmy list

1986. Lene Marlin – Sitting Down Here www.youtube.com/watch?v=ClSVzlObxScOne I'm sure Last Dreamer will like from Norwegian singer-songwriter Lene Marlin, such a classic pop song which I guess has a folky/country vibe to it, released in 2000 in the UK it peaked at #5, it's one I can go back and listen to and still enjoy 17 years later

1984. Van Canto – Fear Of The Dark www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrxfZv6KEL0Ok now we are into the interesting stuff, Van Canto are a German a cappella metal band, founded in 2006 and composed of six singers and a drummer, Van Canto play a cappella with classic heavy, power and symphonic metal influence, creating what they call "hero metal a cappella". While only two of the five singers perform the lead vocals, the other three instead use their voices to imitate the guitars and the bass, with the help of amplifiers

1991. The Glitterati – Betterman www.youtube.com/watch?v=MG6PozIGtw0The Glitterati were an English hard rock band, originally from Leeds, but primarily based in London. The band released their debut album The Glitterati on 25 April 2005 on Atlantic Records and Betterman was the first track on that album. Before that they had an EP out and were touring with an unknown band called Kasabian maybe a year before there debut album came out along with a more established electropop band called Chikinki, all 3 were playing the same gig in Liverpool so I recommended them all to a one Mr Hupin who was living in Liverpool at the time, I think Kasabian might have even been 3rd on the bill! It was the Glitterati on first, then Kasabian, then Chikinki on last "headlining". I still remember that gig very well. I went to see Kasabian again a year or two later in the same venue but in a different (much bigger) room and they dedicated a song to anyone that was at that previous tiny gig

It's the one from my favourite singles of 2000 year and full decade. Sounds like a track from Amy Macdonald or Sinead Quinn.

1981. I Monster – Daydream In Blue www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhB6Lb7_kN8Time now for some electropop from 2003. The I Monster version of "Daydream in Blue" was used as theme music for the 2002 French action movie Steal and appeared in a television commercial for the Ford Focus ST in 2005. The song was also used in the opening episode of the second season of the American TV series Mr. Robot in 2016

1980. Weezer – Troublemaker www.youtube.com/watch?v=ozLHPsAkphQNot vintage Weezer, they had lost their way a bit at this point in their career but the Red album was a decent album. This song was originally planned to be the first single for the album but "Pork and Beans" was chosen instead (rightly so too). Rivers Cuomo has stated the song, along with others from The Red Album, were heavily influenced by rapper Eminem and his "fun way of using rhymes."

1979. Milburn – Lo And Behold www.youtube.com/watch?v=BCLSXU6wkXAFormed in 2001 in Sheffield Milburn spent 5 year releasing Demos and growing an underground following selling out big venues, by 2005 the band were using that status to help raise the profile of their Sheffield counterparts, Arctic Monkeys by inviting them to tour and support them on their 2005 tour before the Arctic Monkeys had released their debut album or single, the Arctic Monkeys first album is clearly inspired by Milburn sound wise

1977. Joy Zipper – You're So good
No video on youtube sadly which is a shame because it was a single in 2005 from their last album, The Heartlight Set, people might remember them for being underdogs in the first Haven Factor, they had a lot of really good low fi/dream pop songs so are well worth checking out, especially the albums The Heartlight Set and American Whip

I wonder if that will appear higher up in yours.

1976. The Dead 60s – Ghostfaced Killer www.youtube.com/watch?v=iqcKZwoEQOAThe Dead 60s were an English ska punk band from Liverpool. The band's sound is a mixture of punk rock, ska, dub and reggae, you will find a fair bit of this kind of music around the bottom of my chart, they actually had 5 top 40 singles from their debut album "The Dead 60's" and one of them makes it a bit higher in my list, they remind me of a cross between Space and The Specials
