A bit late with this this year as the season is well underway but better late than never. The tournaments are coming thick and fast again with 7 ranking events already played this season and 7 different winners: Riga Masters - Ryan Day bt Stephen Maguire China Championship - Luca Brecel bt Shaun Murphy Paul Hunter Classic - Michael White bt Shaun Murphy Indian Open - John Higgins bt Anthony McGill World Open - Ding Junhui bt Kyren Wilson European Masters - Judd Trump bt Stuart Bingham English Open - Ronnie O'Sullivan bt Kyren Wilson Ronnie's victory at the English Open was his 29th ranking title, putting him one ahead of John Higgins and Steve Davis, and second only to Stephen Hendry's 36. Calendar for the rest of the season: INTERNATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: 29 October - 5 November Champion of Champions: 6-12 November SHANGHAI MASTERS: 13-18 November NORTHERN IRELAND OPEN: 20-26 November UK CHAMPIONSHIP: 28 November - 10 December SCOTTISH OPEN: 11-17 December The Masters: 14-21 January GERMAN MASTERS: 31 January - 4 February SHOOT-OUT: 8-11 February WORLD GRAND PRIX: 19-25 February WELSH OPEN: 26 February - 4 March GIBRALTAR OPEN: 7-11 March PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP: 19-25 March CHINA OPEN: 2-8 April WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: 21 April - 7 May The other big news that broke today is Stuart Bingham has been handed a 6-month ban (3 months of which is suspended) for betting on snooker matches. There is no suggestion of match fixing but the authorities decided to give a strong penalty to warn other players to stay within the rules. The ban means he will miss the next 7 tournaments and will have a serious impact on his chances of qualifying automatically for the World Championship.

Ronnie O'Sullivan won the Shanghai Masters yesterday, beating Judd Trump 10-3 in the final. It's his 30th ranking title overall, just 6 behind Stephen Hendry, and his first in China for 8 years. It moves him up to 4 in the world rankings.
Straight into the Northern Ireland Open tomorrow, followed by the UK Championship next week.

A semi-final line-up no-one would have predicted at the Northern Ireland Open:
Yan Bingtao v Lu Haotian Elliot Slessor v Mark Williams

It would be great to see Mark Williams win again. A Yan Bingtao win would be interesting too.

Mark Williams beats Yan Bingtao 9-8 to win the Northern Ireland Open. He didn't lead the final at any point until the end. It's his first ranking title since 2011. Yan is the youngest player to reach a ranking final and the first born in the year 2000.
Williams is up to 11 in the rankings and should be assured of a Masters place now. Yan is up to 27 in only his second season on the tour.
Straight into the UK Championship tomorrow.

Ding out in the 1st round in York! Lost 6-5 to Leo Fernandez who picks up his first win since returning from a one-year ban after an investigation into suspicious betting patterns.

Shaun Murphy v Ronnie O'Sullivan in the UK Championship final. Should be a good one. Murphy has arguably played better than anyone this week, while Ronnie is showing a level of consistency he hasn't displayed for almost 10 years.
A win for Ronnie would move him up to #2 in the world (albeit with half the prize money total of Mark Selby). Victory for Murphy would see him climb to #5.
