92 Babe – Styx
One for Neil here, Styx had multiple US hits but this is by far their most famous song. This was a US number one and reached #6 in the UK.

91 Dog Eat Dog – Adam & The Ants
First appearance for Adam & The Ants in the top 100, two songs missed the top 100 and they have one more to come. It reached #4 in October 1980. The band got a massive boost after this TOTP appearance.

90 New Amsterdam – Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Another song i forgot about or I never knew what it was called. I have never been a huge Elvis Costello fan but he manages to get 2 songs in the top 100. This reached #36 in 1980.

Babe was Styx's only US #1 and their only UK top 40 hit and it even got as high as #6 but the UK didn't go for their more uptempo ones.
The follow-up "Why Me" was only #26 in the USA but a #1 in my chart and is quite a splendid piece of music and the one that introduced me to the "real" Styx. "Boat On The River" was before "Babe" but also not the "real" Styx for me.
Their UK top 10 career wasn't over yet though... their 1981 album Paradise Theatre reached #8 in the UK and was also my #1 album of the year.

"I Have A Dream" was my retro # 1 at Christmas'79. From the rest personal # 1s of 1980 two or maybe even three singles must be in your top 100.

JUst to clarify, is there a typo in the title of this thread or is it the last in a series and the other 900 are elsewhere?

89 Generals and Majors - Edit – XTC
In the next couple of years XTC will have much more entries, this is their only entry for 1980. They were definitely one of the first alternative bands I got into. This song reached #32 and was taken from their 4th album 'Black Sea'

88 Planet Claire – The B-52's
Thanks to RAliverpool B52s make the list, I might have missed them otherwise, I am guessing hes a bit of a fan. This wasn'ta hit in UK or US but I knew the song very well from their best of album.

86 Food for Thought - UB40
I really quite like early UB40 it just has such a great feel. This was actually their debut single and reached #4 in the UK. Shame they had to do so many cover versions in the future as this is a great song.

85 You'll Always Find Me In The Kitchen At Parties – Jona Lewie
First of two entries in the top 100, I think we can all guess what the other one is. When I was a kid I knew this song but I didn't realise you was the same guy as the 'Stop The Cavalry' at the time, crazy I know. The song reached #16 in the UK.

84 And the Beat Goes On – The Whispers
Ok maybe there is more disco than I thought, another track that was sampled famously by Will Smith- Miami. But I really liked The Whispers they were one of my favourite disco bands again don't know why, who knows how a 9 year old thinks. This song reached #2.

83 Living by Numbers – New Musik
Now I think these guys were really ahead of their time in 1980, this sound was going to get very big but I guess Buggles also did a similar sound as well. It reached #13.

82 Train in Vain - The Clash
First of I didn't like the Clash when I was 9, I thought they were just noise but obviously over the years that has changed, they have two more songs to come. It was interesting to learn that The Clash were very much part of the 2nd British Invasion really surprised how big they were in the US charts well not yet but soon.

81 Tears Of A Clown – The Beat
Now I did like this band at the time, they have a couple more songs to come as well. This Smokey Robinson cover is alright but I preferred their own stuff. This reached #6.

80 I Can't Stand Up For Falling Down – Elvis Costello & The Attractions
Highest appearance for Elvis Costello in the 80s, I doubt any of his other tracks will make any of these list as for me most of his best songs are in the 70s. This reached #4 in the UK, and i didn't know until know that it was a cover of a Sam & Dave track.

79 Ace of Spades – Motörhead
For many this would probably me higher but it is still by far the heaviest song in the top 100. Introduced to me like many when they performed on The Young Ones, at that point I didn't really like any heavy metal but I kind got into this song. The tarcked reached #15 in the UK charts.
