78 Wonderful Christmastime - Paul McCartney
Not the only Xmas song in this top 100, this track has become a perennial classic, when you hear this you know that Xmas season has truly began. Quite a few songs in this list could strictly be called 1979 songs but I let this one go, as I associate it more with the 80s, it reached #6.

77 On The Radio – Donna Summer
Her profile may have been raised with Hit Factor but I think this song would still have made the top 100, she will have appearances in most of my lists. This song reached #32 in the UK and #5 in the US.

76 Over You – Roxy Music
Another Hit Factor act, I always find I know more Roxy Music songs than I think and this is another that I loved but had totally forgotten. This reached #5 in May 1980 in the UKand #80 in the US.

75 Escape (The Pina Colada Song) – Rupert Holmes
Now a huge US hit that has become famous over here as it has been featured in many US TV shows and movies most recently 'Guardians Of The Galaxy'. It was regarded as a bit of a novelty hit in the US but compared to the 'Birdie Song' or 'Shaddup Your Face' its a work of art. It was a US number one and reached #23 in the UK. Lol he really doesn't look how you imagine.

Rupert Holmes was actually born in Britain, American (and Jewish) father and English (not Jewish) mother (which means he isn't Jewish as it follows the mother).
The family moved to the USA when he was 6 and I think he has dual nationality.

Some of these may not be eligible for mine, as I was only going to include songs which entered the chart on the 5th January or later... I still may change my mind yet though...

1981 is ready still messing about with the top 5 as I think my number two will upset people over the songs its above but 1980 has already got a safe number one, can't be the same as critics all the time.

73 I Wanna Be Your Lover – Prince
I didn't know Prince at all in 1980 but this is song is great and well deserving of a top 100 place. It reached #11 in the US charts.

72 Heartbreaker – Pat Benatar
First of many appearances for Pat Benatar in these 80s list, she has two more I think to come on this chart. This was her 1st hit single and reached #23 in the US chart.

71 Night Boat To Cairo – Madness
Currently in the Hit Factor 3 competition, if you wanted me to give Madness big points you woudl pick stuff like this, I much prefer their ska tracks to their straight up pop songs. This was taken from their debut album 'One Step Beyond'

70 Free Bird – Lynyrd Skynyrd
Originally released in 1974, it wasn't a hit in the UK until 1980. Had a quick look on Wikipedia but I cant see why this was, maybe it was in a movie. It reached #43 in this year but who chart higher again in 1982 at 21. www.youtube.com/watch?v=np0solnL1XY

First appearance for David Bowie, he will have a few more in this list. An old track from 1972, it got its first single release and reached #12.

68 Embarrassment – Madness
In 1980 you can help every second song being Madness, I think if I had made a top 1000 of the 80s in total they woudl have suffered. This reached #4 in November 1980 from their second album 'Absolutely'.

67 Working For The Yankee Dollar – Skids
One of my favourite punk bands, fronted by Richard Jobson and with Stuart Adamson on guitar. I have had trouble including Richard Jobson followup band on lists as they don't seem to be on Spotify shame as The Armoury Show were pretty good. We will see a lot of Stuart next project though. This track reached #20.

66 Head Games - Foreigner
One of my favourite bands of the 80s and I am finally going to see them live next year shame Lou Gramm isn't the singer anymore though. This song reached #14 in the US.

64 Happy House – Siouxsie and the Banshees
I always found Siouxsie & The Banshees a bit too weird for me but every so often they would come up with a gem. This reached #17 in 1980.
