Nominations announced this evening (feel slightly sorry for Gabby Logan, whose big moment was reduced to a quick 5 minutes at the end of the One Show thanks to the coverage of Harry and Meghan):
ELISE CHRISTIE (speed skating) MO FARAH (athletics) CHRIS FROOME (cycling) LEWIS HAMILTON (Formula 1) ANTHONY JOSHUA (boxing) HARRY KANE (football) JOHANNA KONTA (tennis) JONNIE PEACOCK (para-athletics) ADAM PEATY (swimming) JONATHAN REA (motorcycling) ANYA SHRUBSOLE (cricket) BIANCA WALKDEN (taekwondo)
Solid set of nominations. Good to see Froome nominated this year after last year's travesty. Only one I'd really disagree with is Konta - nominated for reaching a semi-final? Behave. Blatantly just in to get the female quota up, in which case, why not have Hannah Cockroft instead? Her absence makes Jonnie Peacock look like a token disability nomination who'll attract more attention due to Strictly. The most glaring omission for me is Tom Daley - world champion for the second time and previously nominated in years where he's achieved less.

Clearly Anthony Joshua is nailed on for the win.
The British GOAT F1 driver should finish 2nd; whilst Chris Froome & Mo Farah deserve to battle it out for the drug tainted by association/xenophobic Daily Mail readers hated battle for 3rd.
But I guess Harry Kane will make to top 3 from the votes of all the S*n reading InGurLand football supporters.
IMHO Elise Christie deserves to be the highest placed female, as her achievements in Speed Skating have been hugely impressive. Fingers crossed she get's her last Winter Olympics Games disaster totally off her back, so becoming a credible contender FTW in 2018.
I agree re: Tom Daley's omission who has performed with a Lewis Hamilton like focus not seen before, responding to his Olympic Games Final embarrassment last year.

The most blatant example of tokenism is the inclusion of a footballer. Harry Kane plays for a club that won nothing in 2017 and failed miserably in European competition. Sure, England qualified for the World Cup from a weak group, and Kane scored 5 goals in competitive matches - against Malta (twice), Lithuania, Slovenia and Scotland.
James Anderson's record breaking exploits within the England cricket team were far more newsworthy than Kane's. But the BBC is anticipating an Ashes humiliation, and has therefore ducked this one to avoid ridicule.
Amongst solo performers, I'd say Max Whitlock is the most glaring omission.
And whilst it is great to see a para-athlete on this list, the wrong one has been chosen. Tennis player Gordon Reid's achievements rank much higher than Konta's.

Without stealing misterhamster's thunder, you can vote in the Overseas Sports Personality of the Year 2017 here: www.bbc.co.uk/sport/sports-personality/42066974The options are: Tom Brady (American football, USA) Roger Federer (tennis, Switzerland) Katie Ledecky (swimming, USA) Tatyana McFadden (Para-athletics, USA) Sally Pearson (athletics, Australia) Michael van Gerwen (darts, Netherlands) My vote in this has gone to "Mighty Mike" who has got his form back up to near his best for the PDC world championships which start in two weeks time. I can't wait.

Good selection for the overseas contenders. I'd like to see Tom Brady win it but I think Federer is nailed on.
Team of the Year is likely to be between the England women's cricket team, who would've been pretty much guaranteed if they'd won the Ashes as well as the World Cup, England's world champion junior footballers, and GB's gold medal-winning sprint relay team.
England rugby union coach Eddie Jones is likely to be a leading contender for Coach of the Year, though I'd like to see Christian Malcolm get a mention with the relays big such a big success at this year's World Championships.

Struggling to understand Kontas inclusion. Not just because she didn't reach a Grand Slam final, but her year completely fell apart after Wimbledon. Strikes me as the BBC wanting to have a tennis player given that it's one of their major live events, and obviously Murray wasn't going to be included. What she did after Wimbledon probably doesn't matter to them as it wasn't in events they show.
Think Federer is a definite for the overseas award. Team of the Year not sure.

I must really be out of the loop this year - I thought Adam Peaty was a cert to win this but not according to the Bookies who are never far wrong. While Hamilton and Farah have their supporters there's something that stops the British public really resonating with them. Agree on Konta - she has exceeded my expectations and was brilliant in winning Miami but her peak ranking of #4 was a false one to me and has been pointed out her record since Wimbledon is tragic even missing out on the tour finals. If even Tom is saying she shouldn't be in there then there is definitely something wrong. The Scots are very good at coming out in force to vote for their own so I still think Peaty could make the top 3.

Adam Peaty's English.
The only Scot on this year's list is Elise Christie.

Any chance Chris Froome may have had has surely disappeared.

What a bizarre vote but well deserved for Mo Farah.
I'd have had more chance of winning the lottery than predicting Jonathan Rea and Jonnie Peacock would be in the top 3.
In n odd way losing out on Gold in his final Championship 5000m may have actually helped Mo - the British public loves a loser!

Imagine if you'd stuck a tenner on him at 25-1 early doors!

Great to see Farah win this. He's been unlucky in previous years to have been up against such tough opposition. It's just a shame nobody had 50p to put in the meter to keep the link with London alive.

Delighted for Mo, even if it is more of a lifetime achievement award than for his exploits in 2017. He's still a far more worthy winner than Lewis Hamilton or a boxer. As for rubcale describing Mo Farah as a loser... Words fail me.

As for rubcale describing Mo Farah as a loser... Words fail me. Of coure he's not a loser! I should have put it in inverted commas. I didn't mean in the sense you have taken it - it was more that by failing to take the clean sweep at the last hurdle the GB Public felt more sympathetic toward him.

I didn't recognize half the names.
I would have probably voted for Hamilton. However, can't be upset st Farrah getting the nod.

I would have voted for our greatest ever F1 World Champion, except he asked his fan base to vote for Mo Farah, as Hamilton had already won SPOTY once before, and Anthony Joshua's time will come again (presumably when he does something more credible like defeating WBO title holder Joseph Parker, or American Deontay Wilder the WBC holder in a reunification bout, rather than beating an aging Wladimir Klitschko less convincingly than Tyson Fury did over 12 months previously. Hence I voted for Mo Farah, and was delighted with the outcome. PS. Does anyone know why Anthony Joshua attended SPOTY dressed as The Man from Milk Tray?

Farah hasn't got the recognition he deserved in the past so a deserving winner. I've thought for a long time that close sales in the chart can produce shock number ones and I think that was definitely true for the voting last night. Only 10000 covered the top 4 and Johnny Peacock beat Anthony Joshua by just 18 votes! I did joke with someone that maybe the Strictly fans voted for Peacock, but they may have made the difference! Konta incidentally finished a long way short of the top 10 but did at least avoid the wooden spoon to finish 11th. I was also pleased to see Jessica Ennis-Hill get the Lifetime Achievement award.

Jonnie Peacock may have had some votes from Last Leg fans as well.
