This is my countdown of top 100 UK #1 hits (according to the 'official' charts as used by officialcharts.com and the Guinness Book of Hit Singles - so no 'Please Please Me' or anything else that was #1 on a chart other than Record Retailer's during the 1960s), compiled for the " Haven's Favourite UK #1" contest being run by @alexrange in the Music forum. These orderings won't necessarily correspond with my ratings in the 'retro #1s' thread, being a bit more weighted towards my personal preference for the songs listed. I'll probably start adding some brief commentaries when I get to the top 50, but for now I'm counting down the songs only. 100-91 100. Lost Frequencies - Are You With Me (2015) 99. Herman's Hermits - I'm Into Something Good (1964) 98. Eminem - Without Me (2002) 97. Snap! - Rhythm Is A Dancer (1992) 96. Alice Cooper - School's Out (1972) 95. OMI - Cheerleader (2015) 94. Europe - The Final Countdown (1986) 93. Black Box - Ride On Time (1989) 92. Lily Allen - The Fear (2009) 91. Chesney Hawkes - The One And Only (1991)

Nice one. Good to see Lost Frequencies and Lily Allen in there, two that are on my list I think.

I'm quite a bit further ahead in compiling the chart than I've actually posted, well into the top 50. But, even now I've no idea what will end up being #1. There certainly isn't one song that I know I'm counting down to. There are at least a dozen that could reasonably take the top spot.
Basically, what I'm saying is don't place too much import on what eventually ends up as the final song in the countdown, because if I'd compiled the top 10 on a different day it would probably be something else!

Of your first 10 I'm expecting "School's Out" to be on my list but none of the others.
From your next list "Viva La Vida" and "Going Underground" are very likely to make mine, The Scissor Sisters might, and although Help! spent a week at #1 in my chart it isn't down as one of the Beatles songs I have picked. Nancy will be in there, albeit probably for the wrong reasons.
From your 80-71 list Atomic, Stan (yes, definitely. Actually my biggest UK #1 of the 2000s), Shakin' All Over, Brimful Of Asha and Maggie May are all likely to be in mine.
Surprised Dizzy is on your list as you hated the original so much.

I thought once we reached the top 50 you ere going to start talking about them, not simply put them in bold print.
To me the Arctic Monkeys getting to #1 was good only in regard to what else was getting to #1 at the time in 2005. We'd been getting a stream of indie-rock hits since 2004 by new bands but they weren't getting to #1. We had one #1 for Stereophonics and a couple for Oasis in 2005 but they were bands from the Britpop era, not new ones. So to have a new band debut at #1 was great, and probably vastly increased the sell-on value of the Arctic Monkeys CD I already had that wasn't a hit, had I only chose to sell it. (Yes, there was a release before it and I bought it, like I did with loads of stuff).
Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott did an interesting different version of A Little Time when I saw them live. The bit where Paul Heaton sang the opening lines was far more uptempo, but Jacqui's responses were slowed down like they are in the song. That way he was coming across more as a "b*st*rd" in the song than someone who feels trapped in a relationship.

You have "Down Under" at # 47 and at # 54. Good spot - corrected now
