It wouldn't be a stretch to say The Lemonheads were my favourite band in 1993

Yeah I can see why, I'm liking what I have heard so far, by the time I really got into music around 95/96 they only really played Mrs Robinson on TV/Radio

Number of very strong entries last two weeks.
And a bona fide no1 - can't imagine it could be otherwise. Ordinary World is highlighting early 90s. It's a fantastic return to form.

March 21st 1993 - March 27th 1993
In 1992 one of the best protest albums ever was released in the form of RATM's debut self titled album by 1993 Killing In The Name peaked at number 25 in the UK then 2009 it became the Christmas number one when it was the focus of a successful campaign to prevent The X Factor winner's song from gaining the Christmas number one. Any song that highlights and fights against institutional racism and police brutality is worthy #1 in my book. It is as relevant in 2019 as it was in 1993. The highest new entry this week isn't too bad either with Sex Type Thing by Stone Temple Pilots straight in at #14. A mid 80's top 10 hit from The Bluebells ended up at number 1 in a few weeks time so here it is at #21. I'm also loving Thing of Beauty by Hothouse Flowers which didn't chart in the UK

April 4th 1993 - April 10th 1993
Suede claim the top spot with their breakthrough hit Animal Nitrate, it was their first top 10 single. Highest new entry this week is another song that did well in the UK peaking at #13, Come Undone is a nice follow up to the excellent Ordinary World. At #19 we have a Rage Against The Machine album track probably best known from being used in the end credits of The Matrix film, rather fitting with the film being about people that are enslaved without even knowing it, I wish Zach would tell us what he really thinks and stop holding back, what do we have in Wake Up, well its based around an FBI memo which is sampled in the song, in which J. Edgar Hoover suggests a need to suppress the black nationalist movement by using violence, Rage reference African-American figures who have previously been targeted by the government, including Martin Luther King Jr. and Malcolm X, Zack de la Rocha even goes as far as implying that the government was responsible for their assassinations and we all need to Wake Up, this was over 25 year ago! I know rap metal never really took off as a genre and music and its so far removed from pop music I'm going to pass on featuring them in my Track of the day for a hidden gem by Gin Blossoms in the form of Mrs Rita from their breakthrough second album, Mrs Rita was a minor hit in USA but later in 1993 Hey Jealousy would peak at #24 in the UK and they would have 4 top 40 hits. So many good releases this week but the last one I'm going to highlight is Midnight Oil at #28 with Drums Of Heaven, what a tune, this didn't chart either! what were you doing people of 1993!

April 11th 1993 - April 17th 1993
Suede spend a second week at #1 with Animal Nitrate, it could be my favourite song by them, certainly my favourite of their early singles. Highest new entry was always going to be Everybody Hurts by REM, I own all of their albums and Automatic For The People was them at their very best. In at #14 is an amazing track from The The, I'm pretty sure Johnny Marr was in the band by then, its my favourite era of The The. New Order are in at #23 with Regret but I'm sure everyone knows this one already. Less well known is my entry at #39 from Reggae band Big Mountain, they would hit people's radars in 1994 with "Baby, I Love Your Way" and in #48 is a first appearance in my chart by grunge rockers Hole

and now Fashion Crisis Hits New York #57 and climbing Its one of the beauties of this, I'm discovering loads of new bands I love that I never knew before The Mission Jellyfish The Real People Firehouse Gin Blossoms

I saw the Frank and Walters live many times back in the day. They were always highly entertaining. Among the bands I saw supporting them (at the London Astoria) were a then little-known band called Radiohead.
