April 25th 1993 - May 1st 1993
Cracking week this week, no change at the top with REM spending a second week at #1. Highest new entry at #19 is the duet by George Michael and Queen, it was a full EP but I've just gone with the lead track here, closely followed by Blur as they quickly find their feet and release an early classic so For Tomorrow comes in at #22. Jellyfish released their first single from their follow up album Spilt Milk and it is every bit as fantastic as their debut album singles, that's in at #27. At #34 we have a bit of a catch up, Frank Black from the Pixies should've charted a few weeks ago but I missed it so here he is now with Los Angeles. American alternative rock band Redd Kross had 5 singles that charted in the UK between 94-97 so I have dug deep and found a few more from 1993 that underperformed, the first is Switchblade Sister in at #34. Missing out a few obvious entries we reach Kyuss at #50, aka Josh Homme & Nick Oliveri band before Queens of The Stone Age and at #52 is a quality synthpop tune from German band Camouflage, they had moderate success in the 80s with The Great Commandment peaking at #59 in America

May 9th 1993 - May 15th 1993
Same top 2 but we have a few songs rising nicely to challenge them in the next few weeks, best new entry this week is a bit of a classic, #13 Two Princes by Spin Doctors. Big hits from OMD and Bon Jovi too at #27 and #32, at #36 we have a prog rock group from Helsinki called Kinston Wall, their song We Cannot Move is brilliant, so check it out if you don't know it, lots of eastern themes, mysticism and vivid psychedelia acid rock. Collective Soul are another interesting one, Shine was a #11 hit in the USA Billboard 100, but only reached #82 in the UK which is surprising considering how well we took to grunge/alt rock in 1993, that's in at #45.

May 16th 1993 - May 22nd 1993
After 4 weeks at the top with Everybody Hurts and 15 week in total over their 5 #1 singles (Losing My Religion, Near Wild Heaven, Drive, Man On the Moon, Everybody Hurts) they are replaced by Rage Against The Machine - Wake Up. Highest new entry this week is (I Can't Help) Falling In Love With You by Birmingham based reggae and pop band UB40. House of Pain makes a reappearance but I doubt it will top the #3 position it peaked at in 1992 here. I'm liking Belly's debut album too, the alt rock band formed by former Throwing Muses and Breeders member Tanya Donelly, they are in at #32 with Slow Dog.

Jellyfish are #1 for a 2nd week whilst Blur remain #2 with For Tomorrow. Highest new entry is Trinidadian-born German Europop singer Haddaway, this was a huge #2 hit in the UK, I'm not a huge fan of cheesy europop but this one is a bit of a classic that has managed to stand the test of time, that's in at #26. At #35 is Madchester alt rockers Inspiral Carpets and a bit of a novelty song from Green Jelly at #41, this one got heavy rotation on MTV back in the early 00's due to its three little piggies lyrics and accompanying video

Yeah it's another classic pop rock song for me. You never know it was re-released in 1994 and that's when it really took off peaking at #2.

Shouldn't that Tears for Fears song be "Brake It Down Again" rather than "Bring It"?
Otherwise, I'm so glad you had both Asylum and Blondes take the top spot. Those are great songs. Hope now Haddaway can do it as well.

Yes thanks for spotting that. Auto correct must have changed it and I've just been copying and pasting it since without noticing.
