As we enter December, just a little note I will not be charting xmas songs just for the sake of it, in my current chart I don't chart them and sometimes run a separate xmas chart, that's not to say they are omitted, they will enter my top 40 on merit

December 9th - December 15th 1990
An exiting week, Warrant get there second number 1 hit in my chart, can AC/DC get there 2nd number 1 in my chart too or will they just miss out? George Michael is the highest new entry with the excellent Freedom! 90, next up is a none album single from Nirvana released late in 1990, it did peak at #90 in the UK Singles in 1991 after the release of Nevermind but here it is based on it charting in the US alternative charts late in 1990, next up we have probably the last great song Styx released on December 5th 1990, It peaked at No. 3 on the pop singles chart in 1991 and was Styx's 8th and last top 10 Billboard single. It completely missed the UK chart though, we also have the brilliant Soul Asylum at #35 in my chart with another song that missed both the uk and usa charts but did peak at 26 in the US alternative charts, squeezing in at #40 is Delage with a fun funky disco/dance cover of Rock the Boat

December 23rd - December 29th 1990
Bit of a boring week, only 3 new entries in the top 100 this week as the chart winds down for the year and all of them diabolical so no new entries this week but we have a change at the top as Chris Isaak claims the number 1 spot, The Human League was a bit of a slow burner to start with but has climbed up to take the #2 spot and AC/DCs chance of another number 1 in my chart has gone as they slip out of my top 5

I do love a bit of Goo Goo Dolls
Thought id do a bit of digging, Hold Me Up is the third studio album by American rock band Goo Goo Dolls, released by Metal Blade Records in 1990. This is considered the band's true major-label debut, as previous albums were organized by the band themselves. It features their first single, "There You Are," which became their first music video as well. Some consider this album the Goo Goo Dolls' last true "garage rock" album. Also, this marks the beginning of John Rzeznik's emergence as the band's principal lead vocalist.
I'm expecting to chart a lot from A Boy Named Goo and Dizzy Up the Girl in the later 90s

We have a new #1 with Styx climbing to the top spot, Show Me The Way didn't chart in the UK but the single rose up the Billboard Hot 100 all the way to No. 3 and remained in the top 40 for 23 weeks, The song also placed Styx among a handful of artists to have top 10 singles in three different decades, the 1970s ("Lady," "Come Sail Away"), the 1980s ("Babe," "The Best of Times," "Too Much Time on My Hands," "Mr. Roboto," "Don't Let It End"), and the 1990s ("Show Me the Way"). Babe was #1 in the USA in 1979, so counts among their 70s hits. It was still in the top 10 at the start of 1980 but was going down, having been replaced on top by Rupert Holmes.
However Dennis De Young left the band after the Killjoy album.
They are still going (without him).

Yeah I charted a few songs from there 2017 album "The Mission"
After Kilroy Was Here was released in 1983, the band went on hiatus after Tommy Shaw left the band in 1984, But after a five-year hiatus; DeYoung and several other members of Styx began discussing a possible reunion in 1989. By December 1989 Styx had unofficially reformed minus Tommy Shaw. Dennis De Young wrote and produced the entire 1990 album Edge of the Century which "Show Me the Way" was on, its a track written by DeYoung for his son Matthew, I don't think DeYoung left until 1999 when they toured without him
There is an amazing documentary VH1's Behind the Music on youtube that's well worth a watch

Styx remain at the top for a third week but the real story this week is a raft of quality new entries, 6 didn't make the UK top 100 but I'm finding it pretty stale at the moment and the American chart is much more interesting bringing me new releases from Poison, Winger, Chicago, The Connells, The Rembrandts and Ride! but it is two Uk charting singles that really got my attention, Throwing Muses in at #70 and The Real People #76, they will have to share my track of the week

February 10th 1991 - February 16th 1991
Jellyfish become the 2nd #1 in a row that never charted in the UK, which I guess says so far in 1991 the music I like has so far been shunned by the UK public. The brilliant Throwing Muses and The Real People are climbing nicely just above my highest new entry at #19, a very bluesy Beatles/Dylan crossover by the La's. Echo And The Bunnymen were a nice surprise, 1990 album Reverberation bombed and the only single from that album charted at #96 in the UK but the opening track Gone Gone Gone entered the US Alternative Rock chart this week at #27. at #33 is another song to do well in the Alternative Rock chart, the American synthpop band were way ahead of there time and propping up my chart at #40 is a new entry from Havana 3AM, the band of bassist Paul Simonon formed shortly after his previous band, The Clash, officially broke up.
