Bristow's rivalry with John Lowe transformed darts from a pub game played by old men (like dominoes) into a major tv sport and tabloid page filler. He was a charismatic young man, and a brilliant darts player.

As ever I was watching the PL Darts (whilst keeping an eye on Arsenal's UEFA Cup tie, & the US Masters) when this news came in. Eric was flawed as many sublime talents are, also understandably bitter to a degree that dartitis stopped him at his peak (age wise). He was a true darting legend, one of very few. Probably second only to "The Power". Under the circumstances Keith Dellar's tribute speech at the Liverpool Echo Arena was magnificent. RIP. Another major part of my childhood gone.

Even though darts has moved on significantly I always remember the world championships on the bbc from the 80s and early 90s with some fantastic players and characters let’s face it without Bristow darts would not be what it is today.
