I'm merely being consistent with what I have done in other equivalent threads. As it was the last UK #1 of 1984 I gave my 9 points then. As it is a reissue it is not a genuine 1985 UK #3 hit, hence the 2 points penalty. I can't really understand this - I don't see how when the record was released can affect one's opinion of it. To me it makes a HUGE difference.
I have always had a John Peel-ite view of music, I'm always on the look out for the next best thing, or something old I've never heard before to interest me.
Hence, why on these rates I have always used that viewpoint, because the song has had its time of glory, and by it being in the charts it is clogging up new music being in the chart. Indeed it is one of the many reasons why I despise Simon Cowell & his awful shows for recycling old music, and the whole farce of the charts being filled with singles that have been in the top 40 for half a year or more.
I've always loved the charts best when they were all about new singles climbing, peaking and falling out of the top 40 in three months/four months max. Any longer and they are outstaying their welcome.

Without trying to play devils advocate here - if you put me in 1986 mode and 1990 mode and it was Berlin - I would be “great” first time around, but by the time Top Gun got its VHS/TV showing as they did in the 80s I was well over it.
You can play the game however you want, as long as you vote! I’m pretty sure I included some re-releases from the “Levi Denim Advert Throwback Era” such as Percy Sledge which could be equivalent.
And Reet Petite.

The 85 entry was a differently remixed version, so not the same as far as it goes not that I can hear the difference, so points valid.

Does anyone have a list of #4 peaking hits btw please and thank you? Got one - panic not everyone. And there are some cracking songs that peaked at 4 - although one year I know barely any of them, and some actual stuff of nightmares in there too. I’m kinda tempted to start on the 4’s and run them along side the rest of the 3’s if anyone is interested?

Really wasn't a great selection - only 6 of the 17 got a 7 or more from me.
I don't like much of Madonna's material but Material Girl actually got a 6 from me, even preferred it oi the Kate Bush track!

I wondered if you've considered doing a poll for the previous winners of the #1s and #2s, where you can only vote for one song, and see if the winner matches the highest rated score?

Rather surprising that Chain Reaction won the poll of 1986 yet in our retro chart it was one of the few UK #1s from 1986 so far that didn't make it to #1. (A Different Corner and not surprisingly The Chicken Song didn't make it to #1 so far. We'll see if Spirit In The Sky makes it, it is climbing but Sledgehammer is proving a bit strong for it).
It's true that Manic Monday also won the poll as the best #2, but with a lower score than Chain Reaction.
