Led Zeppelin - Whole Lotta Love
As they didn't release any singles in the UK, this one reached #4 in the USA charts in 1970.
Most of us would recognise it as the 1970's theme to Top Of The Pops.

Nilsson - Without You
Most people think this was his own song, because how great it was, but it was written by Ham & Evans from Badfinger.
This stayed at #1 for 5 weeks in 1972. It was murdered by some female singer about 20 years later.

10CC - I'm Mandy Fly Me
A firm favourite of mine, it appears on the album How Dare You. It peaked at #6 in 1976.
Not many people know that the 30 second intro was from a song called "Clockwork Creep" from the album Sheet Music.

the test of time, this one reached #7 in 1975.

Lynyrd Skynyrd - Freebird
This one reminds me of the last song at all those college discos in the mid seventies, got to #19 in the USA in 1974.
A long song, but the final dance was always a long one.

Madness - One Step Beyond
Their second single reached #7 in 1979, and my love of Madness began, and I still play them today, great song.
If they had released mor songs in this decade, they would all be in this countdown.
