Now I have some life stuff out of the way I have managed to finish this. 1990 was a brilliant year in my life where I had so much fun, probably too much fun and it was let by the very exciting rave and indie disco scene. There will still be a splattering of rock in this list but I just wasn't so into it this year. I spend another Summer in Skye so expect a big influence from Atlantic 252 still at least, no less than the song we will kick off with that just misses the cut.
101 Don't Wanna Fall In Love – Jane Child
US pop/rock was still my main radio music in 1990 and this r'n'b flavoured gem is one of the finest examples. I guess it is a precursor to a lot of music we have in the charts now as you really cant categorise it so many sounds blended together. This is the Canadian singers biggest hit and reached #2 in the US and #22 in the UK.

100 Biggest Mountain – Inspiral Carpets
A bit of a different sound from the driving indie of most of their previous singles, it really is quite an oddity, probably why they released it on an EP. This psychedelic track reached #21 in the UK on the Island Head EP.

99 Birdhouse In Your Soul – They Might Be Giants
We have been talking a lot about marmite tracks this week and there aren't many songs more marmite than this. This is so marmite that I really hated it at first for a long time but now I love it guess it has become a bit of a classic. It is still less weird than most of their music mind you. It reached #6 in the UK.

98 Until You Find Out – Ned's Atomic Dustbin
One of the best new bands in the UK. They have brought US underground rock into the charts somehow without anyone realising. They really deserve their place in history as they should have been our Nirvana but their sound was just not 'in' yet. They are touring again would love to have seen them. Just missing the top 40 it reached #51.

97 No Blue Skies – Lloyd Cole
First solo single from Lloyd Cole and basically continuing where he left of the Commotions. Narrowly missing the top 40 peaking #42 here. Definitively one of his best songs.

96 Chelsea Girl – Ride
I was obsessed with Ride in 1991 and I went back and bought the first 2EPs in that year. This was the lead track from the Ride EP and quite a punky sound. The red EP as I called it peaked a t #72 in the UK. 'Drive Blind' was also a great track on that record.

95 Freedom! '90 - George Michael
I liked this song a lot more than my chart indicated at the time, this would probably in my top 5 George Michael songs with its very 90s house sound that so much pop had in this year. Can't believe this only got #28 in the UK, it was never off the video jukeboxes at the time, it was top 10 in the Is though reaching #8.

94 Show Me Heaven - Maria McKee
Nowhere near as good as her music with Lone Justice but I couldn't help but enjoy the fact that she finally had her dues in the charts. A typical movie ballad taken from Days Of Thunder, it was a UK number one but surprisingly not a hit single in the US.

93 Kiss And Make Up - Saint Etienne
Yet to appear in Haven Factor, this was St Etienne's second single vocalled by Donna Savage. It was a cover of a Field Mice track, who we will see in the 1991 list. The remix of this was played at most of the Indie discos we went to. The single reached #80 in the UK. www.youtube.com/watch?v=S9Mz_DfyRPY

92 God Knows It's True – Teenage Fanclub
The first single I knew by Teenage Fanclub, I think I have it on one of those indie Top 20 albums but it was actually their 2nd singel taken from 'A Catholic Education'. Before they went all 60s they were quite a rocky indie band although their trademarks sounds are already there. Did not chart but did make the Indie Top 10.

91 Where Are You Baby? - Betty Boo
More 60s inspired pop now and my favourite Betty Boo, this also had a great remix. Just one of those songs You always had to dance to at the student Union. It reached #3 in the UK.

90 Taste The Pain - Red Hot Chili Peppers
Up to this point the Red Hot Chili Peppers were this joke band that wore socks on their c*cks but suddenly in 1990 they got good with two brilliant singles and a pretty solid album 'Mothers Milk'. The Uk agreed and awarded them with their first top 40 hit here reaching #29.

89 Indian Rope – The Charlatans
Debut single from The Charlatans and one of my most played albums of the year. This single is quite generic I guess but they really do step it up with future releases. Crazy to think they are still going strong. This single reached #89 in the UK. www.youtube.com/watch?v=w-_CrTtyuN0

88 Lose Control – James
A contender for my favourite band of 1991 but i am already starting to think they are pretty amazing in 1990. This stand alone single from James, was a bit in between not enough baggy and not enough old skool James but still good enough to make this top 100. It reached #38 and will be added to the reissued 'Gold Mother' in 1991.

87 Step On – Happy Mondays
Think we are seeing a bit of a trend developing in this batch. This was the first scene I was really into and it felt like ours and so it will have a huge effect on this list. As I already said half my time in 1990 is spent going out and clubbing and pubbing so this really was my soundtrack. This was never one of my favourites, overplayed and just a bit too for the masses. Happy Mondays have truly arrived though as this single roached #5 in the UK.

86 Cübik (Original Mix) – 808 State
Yes it does not end this time we go a bit techno although it is a little heavy metal as well.Manchester overload I know. 808 State were one of the biggest dance acts around and this was their 3rd #10 hit.

85 Never Enough - The Cure
The Cure were not wanting to miss out on this indie dance scene and they release a brilliant remix album called 'All Mixed Up' this was eh big new track on the album. I must admit I preferred most of the remixes of their early 80s songs that I didn't know to this. This reached #13 in the UK and #72 in the US. Yes we really have split from the US charts in 1990.

84 Iceblink Luck – Cocteau Twins
Incredibly this was the first thing i ever bought by Cocteau Twins and even then it was for my partner. they have done a lot better and must admit i found her singing about Cherry Coke a bit weird, yes I really thought that's what she sang!! I truly didn't know until I googled it now that she doesn't actually sing about 'Cherry Cola' hehe It reached #38 in the UK.

83 Circlesquare – The Wonder Stuff
I love both the album and remix but its the remix that gets the song to this position. The closest Wonderstuff ever get to sounding like Jesus Jones. This single reached #20 in the UK. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCGT40kdyjw

82 Justify My Love – Madonna
First appearance for Madonna for probably the most played song on our Student Union video jukebox, this and Cher hehe. Anyway it is brilliant even without the video. It was a number one in the US and #2 in the UK.
