302 Republica – Republica
These next two album suffer from being pushed out of the top 300 as they both deserved to be there. I discovered Republic through their brilliant debut single 'Bloke' which combined trance and metal guitars but I knew it wouldn't get anywhere, I couldn't never have predicted within a year they would be one of the biggest pop bands in the country. They became a bit of a marmite band in a similar way to Transvision Vamp I think as I think people got a bit weary of her singing style. It is not an album I am likely to play again but we all come back to these singles when we are in the mood. It reached #4 in the UK.

301 Kenickie – At The Club
Their debut album when they were still a punk band, 1997 was one of the few times a band could have got big with this sound. Always have time for girls with noisy guitars. The album reached #9 in the UK which is pretty incredible.

Into the top 300 now and the standard really goes up a notch we start with one of the most complete albums of the 90s and a debut masterpiece and yes its only #300.
300 Counting Crows - August And Everything After
Counting Crows were one of the best post-grunge bands that incorporated country, folk, college rock and Americana into the sound. This album is just one of those records that when you stick it on, you always end up playing it to the end. I feel I never really was as big a fan as I really should have been and really enjoying playing this album in full right now. It reached #4 in the US and #19 in the UK.

299 DJ Shadow - Entroducing
For some this will be far to low, its one of those albums that people say is their favourite album of all time when asked on shows like Roundtable. It is completely hipster no denying that but it is another album that is just a complete record that you can stick on and enjoy. Aww its just total class. It reached #17 in the UK in 1996. The song below would have been a great choice for ahead of its time, still could be a new song today.

298 Therapy? - Nurse
From one extreme to another, forget about those bands from Seattle some of the best rock in the early 90s was coming from Ireland. 'Nurse' had all sorts of sounds hardcore, metal, punk, and yeh a bit of grunge but the finest moment by far was the industrial track 'Teethgrinder' what an anthem. Therapy? were and are so underated just a brilliant rock band. This album reached #38 in the Uk.

297 Tool - Aenima
Continuing in a similar vein we have a band I discovered through MTV2 and got into very late. I am not sure what the genre is exactly for Tool, is it prog metal? well that will do for me. So yeh wasn't not into stuff like this really in the 90s at all but I love it now. This was their 2nd album and it reached #2 in the US in 1996 and #108 here!!, yes I know I really never knew they were that big in the US, over 3.5 million sold in the US alone.

296 Mega City 4 - Sebastopol Rd
We seem to be alternating between massive classic albums and underated gems. Mega City 4 were definitely underated and if they were from the US I bet they woudl have been huge, with their college indie/rock sound, they released so many great indie jangly tracks, loved them. This album reached #41 in the UK in 1992

295 3 Colours Red - Pure
More 3 Colours Red and this is their best album and contains my favourite of their songs which you can imagine now being a Foo Fighters song, there was really not a duff track on this album, it reached #16 in the UK.

294 Throwing Muses - The Real Ramona
I have bought a lot of Throwing Muses singles but this was the only album and it again contains my favourite song of theirs, we will see a lot of 4AD acts on this list, many much higher but we seem to have one every ten songs at the moment. This was their breakthrough album and reached #26 in the UK in 1991.

293 Queens Of The Stone Age - Queens Of The Stone Age
Like Tool, this is another album I didn't know at the time, I went back to check it out as I have all the others are its brilliant just haven't played it enough for it really to have its hooks in me. This was of course their debut album and ir reached #122 in the Us and #48 in the UK, surprisingly high.

292 Portishead – Portishead
This bunch of albums really is painting a picture, if this was my top 10 albums I wouldn't be upset. I was quite slow to get into Portishead must admit I preferred Tricky and even Morcheeba but that has flipped over in recent years again like DJ Shadow earlier its just total class. It reached #2 in the UK and #21 in the US.

291 Morrissey - Vauxhall & I
I wasn't the biggest Morrissey fan in the 90s preferring his earlier stuff but he still manages to get two albums into the lower part of the top 30, this is the first and its a pretty solid listen not really any bad tracks but the only song anyone really remembers is the one below. It was his 4th solo album and returned him to the top of the charts in the UK and even reached #18 in the US.

Throwing Muses were one of my discoveries of 1991 in my retro chart, Counting Backwards peaked at #2 and Not Too Soon #13, not bad for an act I hadn't discovered until then

I prefer Donelly's band Belly over Throwing Muses. Will you have "Star" or "King" in top 400 ?

290 Fun Lovin Criminals - 100% Columbian
Not a patch on their debut record which of course is still to come but still pretty decent and a great live band who I saw around this time as well. It reached #3 in 1998 in the UK.

289 Deus - Worst Case Scenario
Now we have an alternative rock band from Belgium with a brilliant debut album, the song I will feature still sounds amazing and could still be released today. The album only reached #90 in the UK but it is still a cult favourite.

288 Chris Isaak - Wicked Game
Loved Chris Isaak at the time, he was out of time but he was so closely associated with David Lynch movies and TV at the time, there is always a time for some Chris Isaak. I cant play 'Wicked Game' much as it was a special song for my wife with her ex previous to me hehe so have to be careful. Many of these songs were much older and on a previous album pretty sure that 'Blue Hotel' was a No Limits powerplay so that shows its age. This album reached #3 in the UK, I actually didn't realise it was a proper compilation!!

287 Cardigans - First Band On The Moon
I woudl say in general this was by no means the most commercial Cardigans album, many of the singles were not as strong as previous ones but thanks to 'Lovefool' being featured in Romeo & Juliet it became a monster hit, so it came them their first top 20 album reaching #18 in the Uk and #35 in the US.

286 Pearl Jam - Vitalogy
Probably the heaviest Pearl Jam album, this third album had probably their most uncommercial single with 'Spin The Black Circle'. It certainly didn't harm its success as it was a number US chart topper selling over 5 million there and it reached #4 here. This is my favourite track.
