Former England and Tottenham manager Glenn Hoddle is seriously ill and has been taken to hospital after appearing as a pundit on BT Sport on Saturday. Presenter Mark Pougatch said the football results show BT Score had been cancelled as a result of Hoddle's condition. The illness occurred on the former Spurs midfielder's 61st birthday. BT presenter Jake Humphrey said Hoddle was "taken seriously ill at the BT Sport studio this morning". He added on social media: "Everyone of us is right with you Glenn, sending love and strength." Hoddle, who earned 53 caps for England, was considered to be one of the best players of his generation. He won the FA Cup and Uefa Cup with Spurs and also played for Monaco, Swindon and Chelsea. Gary Lineker, the Match of the Day presenter and former Tottenham and England striker, posted on social media: "Hugely worrying news that Glenn Hoddle collapsed at the BT studios earlier. Thoughts are with him and his family. Come on, Glenn." Hoddle became player-manager at Swindon and Chelsea, and is credited with turning the west London side into a cosmopolitan outfit by signing Netherlands great Ruud Gullit, who went on to replace him as boss at Stamford Bridge. From there he managed England for two and half years, taking them to the 1998 World Cup, but his reign ended in controversy when he admitted a "serious error of judgement" after suggesting disabled people were being made to pay for the sins of past lives. He went on to manage Southampton, Tottenham and Wolves, before continuing coaching and his career as a TV pundit.

Fingers crossed that Glenn makes a full recovery from whatever is wrong with him. It sounds like he may have had a heart attack or a stroke.

Glenn Hoddle is taken seriously ill, so Twitter is awash with attention seeking morons cracking offensive jokes.
If nothing else it is a reminder that Chelsea fans who were too young to remember the part he played in developing the club during the 1990s, prior to their Russian financial doping are the worst in the EPL.
Hope he makes a full recovery.

Heard him midweek on some game I was watching, not nice at all, he is not a good pundit/commentator though. Although, not many of them are to be fair.

Thank goodness (Fingers crossed/Touch wood). I did not want to post the 1993 Premier League Play Off Final highlights for the worst possible reason.
So I'll post it now for his key part in Swindon Town's second greatest game in their history; and arguably one of the 5 best second halves of Football ever played at Wembley Stadium.
Still Leicester City, whatever happened to them.....

I remember watching the Leicester v Swindon final in the pub on, if I recall, the late May Bank Holiday Monday in 1993. The game was excellent. It's certainly in the top 2 best Play Off finals, the other being Charlton v Sunderland in 1998. I think the L v S match just shades the other.

The Reading-Bolton 1995 play off final must be in the top 3? Tbh I always thought that was the best after Charlton-Sunderland, though I wasn't aware of that Leicester-Swindon match.
As others have said, hope Hoddle makes a full recovery.

Although no official statement has been issued it appears that Glenn's heart stopped beating and he had to be given the kiss of life. Fortunately one of the BT production staff is trained in first aid and he was able to get Glenn's heart started and looked after Glenn until the paramedics arrived.

It was played on Monday 29 May 1995 and I was away that weekend with my then girlfriend at a caravan park in County Durham (Witton Castle caravan park if anyone is interested!). We didn't get back home until after the match had finished but I can recall reading in the paper the next day that it had been a good match.
