I know this is off topic, but one of the oddest Christmas song experiences is being in a pet food shop in George in 40 degree heat in December and being welcomed to the dulcet tones of “so this is Christmas” by Sam Nixon from the 2003 Pop Idol Christmas song in 2016. Where did they even find it for one as SA didn’t have Pop Idol, and 13 years later thought it would sell some more deworming pills, exotic bird seed, or a dog toy to get Christmassy? That said the local mall still pumps out Flatline by MKS on a regular occasion when I pop for a sandwich at lunchtimes. Still annoyed to this day that Sam didn't win

Completely disagree about Wonderful Christmastime by Paul McCartney, I think it's a fascinating record and one of my favourites at this time of year. It sounds very experimental for 1979 - it doesn't seem to have a proper melody, it's so disjointed that there's at least 3 times where it sounds like it might have just finished but then it starts again. Despite being very odd it still manages to retain that child like singalong quality that many of his songs have, my kids love it too.
I've never liked the Mariah Carey one - to me that's more the sound of Christmas shopping than Christmas itself, it sounds like music to buy stuff to. I'll never get bored of hearing Fairytale of New York however much it gets played, plus a more recent addition to the list of classics for me is Must Be Santa by Bob Dylan, that's brilliant.

In my country (Russia) Wham and Mariah songs are overplayed to death on every Christmas/New Year, so I don't want listen them anymore. "Fairytale of New York " is very far from my favourites, but grow up for me in last 2-3 years. My top 30 Christmas songs here : fatherandy2.proboards.com/thread/92193/top-30-christmas-songsFrom UK classics my Top 2 is Mud and Shakin' Stevens songs.

Mary's Bi Child? Have they recorded a new 2010s version? Don’t assume Mary’s gender please. Well if we must go all PC World / #MeToo / .... then
White Christmas - "I'm dreaming of a White Christmas just like the ones I used to know ...." : An obvious gammon UKIP / Klu Klux Klan racist anthem about the good old days of Love Thy Neighbour & the Black & White Minstrels on TV when you could be open about expressing your non tolerant beliefs.
Santa Claus is Comin' to Town - "He sees you when you're sleepin', He knows when you're a wake, He knows if you've been bad or good, you better be good for goodness sake ..." A song which highlights what an unsavoury individual this Santa Claus is threatening young children to behave or else, whilst spying on them. Hmmm he frequently turned up on Jim 'll Fix It in December didn't he?
Driving Home For Christmas - Chris Rea's anthem taken from the concept album Road To Hell where the lead character got jailed for violent conduct and unspecific threatening behaviour inferring to spousal abuse of his wife and children. This track celebrated his release from prison and looking forward to returning home (having been told their new "safe house" address to see his wife and children). Its pop video featured actor Bryan Murray who most famously portrayed Trevor Jordache in Brookside ....
Good King Wenceslas - A song celebrating the 10th century Duke of Bohemia whose own mother and brother conspired to murder him with him being brutally stabbed to death as he tried in vain to take shelter in a church. One for Game Of Thrones fans.
Last Christmas - A gaslighting anthem or celebration of the gruesome trade in body-parts harvesting. Take your pick!
etc ...
But I'm sure some like people like Nick Knowles (the crap he talked about the 1969 Landing on The Moon being faked on last night's I'm A Celeb ....) would say Christmas celebrates the birth of a fictitious boy, and son of an invisible murderous sky god, to a virgin (A woman impregnated against her will, let's not forget that, if you take her word for it ... perhaps Mary's drink was spiked?), who in suffering, much as many of us do, saved us all from the eternal damnation of his conflicted and confused father.
Hence, a few Anti-PC song lyrics really shouldn't be such a big deal.
