I stopped this last year as RALiverpool was duplicating so many of these so I just went by his list instead but indie/rock is on a bit of a revival right now so think I can do this. I will use the definition of The Indie Show on Radio 1 so it will be pretty wide anything from Grimes/Prodigy through to Architects/While She Sleeps and from Lana Del Rey to Andrew WK.
We will start with a band that I somehow missed in 2018 and have finished well in many year end polls, they are a side project of Julian Casablancas and this is their new single.

Hard finding new songs on Jan 2 so I will introduce a rock band I found last week.. They are two girls from Sydney, Australia. their influences are listed as Blur, Car Seat Headrest, Oasis and Weezer . Definite 90s alt rock vibes.

Another new band I discovered in the last 24 hours is bringing classic rock back in a much more modern way than Greta Van Fleet for example.
Puppy - World Stands Still

I will say is you grab it first then I won't (intentionally) use it.
But that was not the track I expected you to have picked before I came onto Haven tonight.

There is plenty to go round, I am trying to stick to songs with some kind of video so probably wouldn't have picked ian Brown, but hold my place for brand new Catfish & The Bottlemen on tuesday!!!! If we double up that's all the more promo for a brilliant song i say, i will try to have a more Radio 1 slant than 6 Music so that should help.

Well what else would it be
Bring Me The Horizon - medicine
All I will say is wow, this could actually be a hit and with a guaranteed number one album on the cards, everything is in place for them. Also it is number two on New Music Friday UK!

Bring Me The Horizon - Medicine Puppy - World Stands Still Rews - Rip Up My Heart Reel Big Fish - Life Sucks... Let's Dance! Ian Brown - From Chaos To Harmony
And I imagine Catfish & The Bottlemen will top the lot come Tuesday

Hmm tough decision but today I think I will go with the new track from Slaves, it was between them and Dermot Kennedy. Think this is the 4th single from 'Acts Of Fear And Love'

This is a bit of a find, did anyone ask for a band that were a cross between Imagine Dragons and Twenty One Pilots, well i found one. Well they couldn't be trendier and the song ain't bad either.

Well it can only be one song, the brand new single from Catfish & The Bottlemen, it is called 'Longshot' and its the first single from their 3rd album. Annie Mac couldn't put it better, they are they most underrated band in the world right now. Definitely the biggest arena band who have never had a top 75 hit single. Check this stat from Music week www.musicweek.com/talent/read/catfish-and-the-bottlemen-drop-single-ahead-of-arena-shows/074908While the band have never had a single in the Top 75, several tracks have attained silver and gold status thanks to streaming. Kathleen, which was released in 2014 and peaked at No.110, has sales to date of 445,111, including sales-equivalent streams of 393,443.
That is incredible and shows that indie rock maybe hidden from the mainstream but it is still pretty huge, those figures smash sales of many indie top 40 hits from the 00s. Anyway this is the song.

My son told me they had a new track out as he's a big fan, not bad on 1st listen, interesting to see what it does chartwise, might break that Top 75 duck.

I am a little bit late on this one but it is my song of the day, think its their best song yet. The Glasgow band remind me of Best Coast and Weezer. They are playing Norwich Arts Centre on Feb 2, very tempted.

Now another old song but I have heard this every day this week on Radio 1, I have went from ambivalence to thinking its the best song ever. It must be getting a big push for 2019. I really know it though so it must have been in a TV show or movie last year. It has nearly 50 million plays on Spotify. And is that a Radiohead sample 3 mins in certainly sounds like it!!
Its like Twenty One Pilots but even better!! I really think rap and rock together is going to be the sound of 2019.

I know they are strictly dance but they have always been an honorary alternative act. 2nd single taken from their new album 'No Geography'. Its their best for a long time.

Track of the day, is the brand new non album single from Walk The Moon. I actually think this is better than anything on their last album.
