22/08/2019 The 1975 - People
Well, this is very different. (Chances of Adele or Ed Sheeran taking a radical left turn = zero). Lyrically this deadly than a Jofra Archer delivery is a song attacking right wing populist politicians & their media supporters. Hence, I heard Jo Whiley tonight for not being able to play the track on Radio 2 due to is subject matter (& the fact they have not bleeped all the offending lyrics for right wing snowflakes like Farage; Morgan; & Morrissey).

Wow this was unexpected The 1975 go punk!! How come Radio 2 cant play it but Radio 1 can, although obviously the sound (pardon the pun and irony) is not really Radio 2 friendly.

Forgot the 1975 track was coming out - saw people on Twitter compare it, amongst other things, to mclusky and had to listen immediately. I definitely hear it, and it's all the better for it.

23/08/2019 + 24/08/2019 Lana Del Rey - f*** It I Love You & The Greatest
Lana Del Rey is releasing her new album, Norman f***ing Rockwell, next Friday. On Thursday night she dropped two new tracks from it, and on Friday released the pair together in one video. (Hence they are my Record Of The Day tracks for yesterday & today). Both are produced by Jack Antonoff.
The first track is typical Lana goes Laurel Canyon late 60s/early 70s singer/songwriter influences; but the second nearly lives up to its title. It has serious Father John Misty meets John Grant vibes contains a brilliant diss of Kanye West, and pays homage to her (& mine) all time favourite song "Life On Mars".

26/08/2019 Kygo & Whitney Houston - Higher Love
The reason I have gone for the current UK #4 & USA #63 June 2019 cover of this remix by Norwegian dance producer Kygo utilizing this 1990 cover by the late US diva, of the 1986 huge hit single for Stevie Winwood is because of the quite brilliant video (& if I can help in my own small way stop Ed Sheeran claiming a UK #1 hit the better).
The official video was made available on YouTube on 26 August 2019 and features a female dance class led by an instructor (played by Riverdale's Vanessa Morgan (in an 80s Diana Ross wig) who are rehearsing but in 80s gear with suitable ghettoblaster; massive mobile phones, etc while being observed by a man and his friends from today. After initially being shooed away, the male lead goes into the studio where his clothes change into 80s dance gear to the amusement of the women before dancing with the female lead. He is eventually joined by his male companions who also enthusiastically begin dancing with the other female dancers. It has brief snippets of Whitney Houston's "I Wanna Dance with Somebody" video showing on a TV along with posters of her from her 1987 Whitney album era on the wall. (With a clear references to Flashdance & Footloose as well).
The music video is directed by Huse Monfaradi, & choreographer Hannah Lux Davis (since of Ariana Grande, Halsey, etc) So reuniting the pair famous for the aerobics pop video for Eric Prydz's "Call On Me".... another reworking of a Stevie Winwood 80s hit.

30/08/2019 Cobrah - Tea
Not a great deal is known about this dance track which comes from Sweden, as the artist has so far worn SM rubber fetish masks for her releases to date. However, listening this gives a clear indication whom this artist either is (or isn't but is trying to raise her profile by sounding like another famous Swedish female artist).

03/09/2019 First Aid Kit - Strange Beauty
This hauntingly new acoustic folk track dropped by the Swedish Söderberg sisters reminds me of Fleet Foxes (when they were great). As of yet no news whether this is a stand alone track or from a follow up album to their January 2018 album Ruins.
