I've decided I want to try and fill in some of my musical gaps this year and get to know as much different music as possible, and so have decided to try and post an old track each day, that I have either newly discovered, re-discovered, or is relevant to something that has happened in the news, or my mood at the time.... Basically it could be anything, but I hope to make it more about newly discovered stuff! Day 1: (01/01/2019) PJ Harvey - Good Fortune <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.600000000000023px; height: 6.899999999999977px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 5px; top: 101px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_60300760" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 101px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_38626937" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 5px; top: 388px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_42175686" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 388px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_55327113" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.600000000000023px; height: 6.899999999999977px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 5px; top: 101px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_74700413" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 101px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_18295894" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 5px; top: 388px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_65006663" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 388px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_32039509" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.600000000000023px; height: 6.899999999999977px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 5px; top: 101px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_30791691" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 101px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_67645715" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 5px; top: 388px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_57544500" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.6px; height: 6.9px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none; left: 473px; top: 388px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_84228492" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.899999999999977"></iframe> <iframe style="position: absolute; width: 10.600000000000023px; height: 6.899999999999977px; z-index: -9999; border-style: none;left: 5px; top: 101px;" id="MoatPxIOPT0_97879117" scrolling="no" width="10.600000000000023" height="6.89999

Day 2: (02/01/2019) Marmalade - Reflections Of My Life
This has come about as the announcement of lead singer Dean Ford's death today, at the age of 72. This song is one that I only discovered last year, despite it reaching #3 in 1969, but it's brilliant so I'm having it as my track of the day - plus the fact that I hadn't come up with much else before I heard this sad news!

At least reports about Olivia Newton-John not having long left have been rubbished by her manager and family.

At least reports about Olivia Newton-John not having long left have been rubbished by her manager and family. I hope you are correct.
However, this time last year the manager & family of Ken Dodd were saying similar things to a similar allegations. Whilst I remember very well in November 2015 all concerned with David Bowie slammed media reports on his imminent demise after his appearance at the premiere of his Lazarus musical play.
Either way the tabloid press are vermin in these instances.

Day 3: (03/01/2019) The Big Bopper - White Lightning
February 3rd this year marks 60 years since the infamous plane crash which killed Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens and The Big Bopper, along with their pilot. The Big Bopper is the one I know least about, so here is a song which he wrote himself and was a U.S. hit for country singer George Jones in 1959.

Remarkable to think that the Big Bopper was more famous than Buddy Holly and Ritchie Valens when the plane went down. "Chantilly Lace" is a great song too. But I don't think he has enough good material for a very long run in Haven Factor.

I would have thought "Running Bear" was his most famous composition although he sadly never got to the recording session for it. Also his "Little Red Riding Hood" was covered by Sam The Sham & The Pharaohs reaching USA #2 in 1966.
I'll say no more but I suspect a new dead pop person who was part of the 1970s equivalent of Sonny & Cher might feature tomorrow in this thread?

I'm not sure.. I did consider them for today's, but I wanted to mix it up a bit!

Day 4: (04/01/2019) The La's - Timeless Melody
Liverpudlian band best known for their 1988 single 'There She Goes'. They shockingly only released one album, but Noel Gallagher has said that they greatly influenced Oasis in the beginning. 'Timeless Melody' was a single in 1990, but only reached #57. I only discovered the album a few months ago, but was instantly hooked.

I know I'm in the minority (along with Paul Weller & Johnny Marr) but I reckon The La's debut album is better than The Stone Roses eponymous debut.
You have stated you love the La's album, so will know this song, but you (probably) won't know this version which was their original 1987 UK #86 debut single (it was rerecorded for the album):

Day 5: (05/01/2019) Chris De Burgh - I'm Going Home
Other than 'A Spaceman Came Travelling', I know very little about Chris De Burgh's early work so I've been listening to his 1975 album, 'Spanish Train And Other Stories' this afternoon. This song, 'I'm Going Home' was one of the immediate standouts for me.

Love The La's album too, they had a few big hits in my chart, Timeless Melody #10, There She Goes #1 and Feelin #1, when I get round to retrospectively covering the 80's "Way Out" will feature too, shame they only released 1 album and a few singles but they do live on in Britpop band Cast, John Power (Guitar and backing Vocals in the La's) formed Cast after The La's broke up, their first two albums All Change and Mother Nature Calls were a natural progression from what he was doing in the La's

Day 6: (06/01/2019) Echo & The Bunnymen - Rust
This reached #22 in 1999 and I've no idea how I missed it at the time... It's rather beautiful though. Taken from the album 'What Are You Going To Do With Your Life?', it's the Liverpool band's last top 40 hit to date.

Day 7: (07/01/2019) Sylvester - Don't Stop
I had never heard this 1982 #77 hit before now, but I did know his massive disco anthems 'You Make Me Feel (Mighty Real)' and 'Do You Wanna Funk'. Sadly Sylvester died in 1988 of AIDS, aged just 41.

Day 8: (08/01/2019) Panic! At The Disco - I Write Sins Not Tragedies
I haven't managed to find anything 'new' today, but I did rediscover this Panic! At The Disco banger from 2006 that I haven't heard in ages.

I didn't have time to do this yesterday, and only had the radio on at work. This is the one which put me in a better mood when it came on:

Day 10: (10/01/2018) Roachford - Stone City
I'd never really looked much into Roachford's music beyond 'Cuddly Toy' until last summer when he totally blew me away at the Rewind Festival. This one somehow totally missed the charts when it was released in 1991.
