Her job is done though, although she didn't do a great deal this ep, but she was there to remind us of the blue eyes comment. How about this for who ends up on the iron throne? Sansa. So how did you want the NK killed Greendemon bearing in mind only dragonglass can kill him...Samwell covered in melted dragonglass maybe, and roll him down a hill to crush and obliterate him?

Without Mel Arya may never have gone to deal with the NK, up to that point she'd had a bump to the head and had totally lost her courage. And she may have bought them just enough time by lighting the trench when she did. Without her they certainly would all be dead.
I'm just hoping it's anyone other than Dany at this point, and I highly doubt they're going to give it to her. I'm hoping for her demise now if I'm honest - hopefully the whole Sansa / Dany conversation about the North is setting up a conflict.
Didn't Cersei pretty much tell Jon that he could take the North and do whatever he wants with it at the end of last season? Ironically Jon/Sansa are far more likely to keep a hold of their North with Cersei on the throne than Dany.

Dany is now very weak. She's completely lost her army. And she's lost somewhere between none and all three of her dragons. Dany's future rests entirely with how Jon feels about her.

Without Mel...they certainly would all be dead. They would indeed be dead. Because Jon wouldn't have been resurrected, and thus Dany and the dragons wouldn't have been on hand to take on, and lose to the Army of the Dead, only to be rescued by Ninjarya.

I'm still holding out for a "nobody sits on the Iron Throne because there IS no Iron Throne" ending.
And no, by nobody I don't mean "No-one". As Jeor Mormont would say, there's been enough of that sort of thing.

Dany did say she wanted to destroy the wheel, so that would suggest a change in how it is run? I could just see Sansa in King's Landing as queen. And how many more people is Samwell going to get killed It was obvious poor Ed was getting stabbed in the back at that point!

At this moment in time I'm rooting for Sansa, but just can't see any way where that would be possible. I say split the kingdom's back out to the seven Kingdom's like they were. Let Cersei have the west, Sansa have the North, Jon have the crownlands, Gendry/Arya have the stormlands, Yara have the Iron Islands, Sam have the Reach, Edmure have the Riverlands, and whoever have Dorne.
Deliberately not including Dany as want her to f**k off back to Essos.

So how did you want the NK killed Greendemon bearing in mind only dragonglass can kill him...Samwell covered in melted dragonglass maybe, and roll him down a hill to crush and obliterate him? Lol! There was a theory floating around that dragonglass/Valyrian steel wouldn't be enough to kill the Night King, that he could only be destroyed at the place he was made, the weirwood tree with the standing stones Bran saw in his vision. I liked the idea of Melisandre being the one to destroy it with fire, or perhaps more realistically one of the dragons. Him dying to a Valyrian steel knife like all the others just felt very underwhelming to me. But perhaps that's my own fault for reading/watching too many theories I was so hyped for this episode and honestly I wish I loved it as much as others seem to be. The battle had some incredible moments but the ending ruined it. There have been other episodes/developments in the show that didn't sit well with me but I warmed to on rewatch, so I can only hope it will all make sense to me when the whole thing is over.

Jordan mark my words, they are setting Dany up as a minor antagonist now. She will never sit the Iron Throne. Something pretty major and shocking will have to happen IMO to justify three 70+ minute episodes to wrap up the war for the Throne.

I cant wait for Euron to get his comeuppance, hopefully at Yara's hands and a sword through his knob might suffice...

For me either they had to kill the NK, or his army would just get stronger and wipe everyone out. I don't think anyone would have liked that outcome, so he had to be killed, the big question was which leading character would manage it.
The dragons couldn't, so I guess they went for the one you would expect the least.
I was pretty happy with the episode on the whole, even if it was difficult to see some bits.
We will just have to wait and see how they wrap this up, at least the final battles will be an all human affair, unless the dragons are still around.

I'm hopeful something truly epic will be coming now. The first three episodes were more pay-offs and doing the things that had to be done. Now they can introduce some PROPER twists.

Yes, the Night King going down is disappointing now but if it's to make room for a great ending full of twists and human drama, I will forgive them!

The thing is, whatever the ending, there are going to be people out there that are p*ssed off or disappointed, because they are in camp Cersei, or camp Jon, or camp Dany, so I think they will struggle to please us all, we shall see. Any news on the books, as my daughter said she'd seen that he wasn't writing them, as it wasnt worth it, sure that isn't true.

The last I've heard is he is still working on Book 6 and has every intention of publishing it. I really fear whether he will manage to get both remaining books out before he dies.
As for the ending, obviously they won't be able to make everyone happy but as long as they find an outcome that makes sense and doesn't seem to come out of nowhere, I think I'll be satisfied.

I'm fully in Camp Cersei, but I could still be satisfied with her not ending up on the throne. All I want for her is to have an epic end worthy of her character.
I just want something to happen that tops the Red Wedding or the destruction of the Sept.

I've read a really disturbing theory about Arya and Cersei (no actual spoilers AFAIK but I put it in spoiler tags just in case people don't want to read theories - I'm starting to wish I hadn't as it just seems to hype me up for nothing, but I'm too obsessed not to ) Anyway... Basically, because Melisandre's comment about eyes Arya will shut included "green eyes", that refers to Cersei, so Arya is going to kill Cersei as well. That would be so disappointing to me, especially now that she has killed the NK. She doesn't get to off both Big Bads!
Jaime or Tyrion really ought to be the one to do it, if she does die. I hope Jaime.

Re. Camp Cersei... not for me but I'm not sure whose side I really am on at the moment! Tyrion was my favourite character from seasons 1-4, then Jon from seasons 5-6, now I think maybe Brienne! I do love Cersei as a character; she has been one of the most interesting antagonists throughout. She deserves a good send-off. The only thing I want is for Sansa and Tyrion to remarry - their scenes together in the last episode were one of the highlights for me. I found Sansa's comment to Tyrion about his divided loyalties hugely interesting. Book spoilers: In the books Dany is told by Quaithe that she will suffer three betrayals, one for blood (Mirri Maz Duur), one for gold (Jorah) and one for love. The last one hasn't happened yet. If the show follows the books - increasingly unlikely maybe, but still possible - I'm beginning to think the last betrayal will be Tyrion, because he will choose Sansa over Dany.

Sam Tarley for king. He’s using his wisdom to turn allies into rivals, and could be the last nobleman standing.
I haven’t worked out who will finish off Sansa, unless she becomes one of Dany’s victims before her enemies unite to finish her off.

Sansa said something last season along the lines of 'If they want me they can come and take me' after refusing the invitation to King's Landing for the 'Summit'. That was quite a powerful sentence and to me it screamed of foreshadowing.
