It's a first week on top for Mary Hopkin's Goodbye, her second chart-topper, and mirroring my actual chart-topper of the time for a change, while it's another high new entry for another Paul McCartney song at 20 - yes The Beatles are in at a lowly debut for Get Back, though Billy Preston gets his top 20 debut out of it, and the B side slides in at 60, John Lennon's as-ever passionate plea of Don't Let Me Down, both of them on the roof in London for their final public performance, and as shown on TOTP at the time. The highest new entry? The Isley Brothers massive Motown classic Behind A Painted Smile is in at 3, frantic, passionate and brilliant.

Ruby & The Romantics get a first top 10 - though strictly-speaking Our Day Will Come was a childhood fave and would have done th same - and The Ronettes also get a first, though Be My Baby would have topped for weeks in 1966 when dad bought it. Clodagh Rodgers gets a first top 10, and in my memories of that time Mary & Clodagh are like a double female vocal whammy as she enters at 8 in my old charts too. A big climb for the Mac, a second top 20, and a gospel anthem is in at 22 for the Edwin Hawkins Singers, Oh Happy day was another summer fave of mine, especially the rousing climax. 

Martha and her Vandellas replace themselves new for old in my chart, and the latest Dusty In Memphis single, both A & B side are in at 66 and 72 respectively, giving Windmills Of Your Mind 2 listings, while the first track on the album enters at 62 - so that's over half the album having charted! Rolf Harris was still a kiddie fave, painting and singing, and Bluer Than Blue was not a future mission statement, it was a nice tune at 69, oops! Tommy Roe's follow-up to Dizzy slips in at 71 Heather Honey was just hitting the UK charts as I left the UK for 2 years, annoyingly, as I only got to hear it once or twice before having to wait quite a few years to hear it again in 1974. The great Henry Mancini is in - but not one of his own fab melodies, it's a cover of the movie theme - and a Trems cover is in at 75.
