If we did a 50s one would we include 1950-1952? I have that book of charts that covers 1940 to 1952 (So we could do a 1940s one as well) but someone would have to type out a list of all the songs that were hits in those years as not everybody would be expected to know.
For a 2010s one I would immediately black-list Gotye.

I don't think we should have blacklist for post 00s, the only reason we suggested this was because certain songs kept getting used all the time. When we get to 10s which isnt retro anyway btw there is slim picking, all the decent hits could end up blacklisted.
I would never enter a 50s comp and doubt I would do a 60s either, not much I like before 1964

It shouldn't be too hard to find out some songs that were released from 1950 onwards, but maybe we should just concentrate on one competition at a time.

Banning songs and transferable voting systems!
You pick the decade, we pick the songs, then we all vote for them. Easy!
It doesn’t need gimmicks or time hop cards or year travelators or rewind tardis or whatever - it really doesn’t need to be complicated!

Totally agree with smurfie on this. Just do a simple 10 round (11 if champions round included) on a single decade with no gimmicks or banning songs. Somebody is always gonna pick something you dont like so JUST DONT VOTE FOR IT
1. Choose the decade. 2. We send you the 10 songs for each year 3. We all vote
A simple game. p*ss farting about with gimmicks will lead to no interest at all hardly. Eventually all the popular songs disappear and then you get great games of discovery. Not everyones taste is the most popular just because it went to number 1. We just proved in the last champions round that Belinda beat Giorgio yet Giorgio was nailed on to win before we even voted.
So.....once Lingovision has finished just get on with it Earl P. Keep it simple as before

I have seen your thoughts however I am going to try it as an experiment.
Whoever runs the contest after the next one can run it their way.

It does sound needlessly complex and a bit of a Frankenstein experiment

I'm with the keep it simple brigade. Voters always have the option of marking a song down if they are completely fed up with it.

Personally I'm with the keep it simple brigade but it's your contest so you set the rules.
Depends on the decade whether I enter or not.

Of course, we could all enter the competition, but none of us submit a list of songs to be banned.

Of course, we could all enter the competition, but none of us submit a list of songs to be banned. I might not anyway. Most of the songs that have been overdone in these contests (i.e. Don't you want me, Total eclipse of the heart, Like a prayer) seem to be from the 80s I think.

I reckon there would be a few banned songs from the 70s and 90s, fewer from the 60s and probably none from the 00s so maybe pick that decade if you want to avoid banning songs.

I don't think I would enter a '70s one. Either Bohemian Rhapsody would win, which is obvious, or according to the proposed new rules it would be banned, which frankly makes the competition meaningless as it's such a huge song.

And I'm with those who say let's keep it simple. But I'm not sure how much value my opinion has as I think really out of the remaining decades I'd only participate in '90s or 00s anyway.

Love the 70's, almost every vinyl record in our house as a kid was from the 70s or late 60s, then ofcourse the 90s as a young teenager, 00s as a student
The only one I would opt out of is 50's

You just want an indie time machine.
So ban all the songs from the decades you dont like and nothing from the decade you really like and if known really want to do
Hypocritical.
As i thought rigged before its even started. Just throwing your dummy out the pram arent you.
Not interested in that era of music. It was all sh*t between 1999 and 2019. Period.

Slight exaggeration, it's only been really sh*t since 2011. But we all have favourite eras I'm not really interested in much pre 1978.

I don't listen to much chart music anymore, but there is always good music being released - it's just a matter of finding it.
