I reckon there would be a few banned songs from the 70s and 90s, fewer from the 60s and probably none from the 00s so maybe pick that decade if you want to avoid banning songs. Probably no songs from the 00s worth banning. You just want an indie time machine. So ban all the songs from the decades you dont like and nothing from the decade you really like and if known really want to do Hypocritical.
As i thought rigged before its even started. Just throwing your dummy out the pram arent you. Not interested in that era of music. It was all sh*t between 1999 and 2019. Period.
. It's nothing to do with indie (or any other genre). It's to make it more interesting and less predictable. As was pointed out Bohemian Rhapsody would be odds on to win it's round. I'd rather people put a bit more thought into it rather than entering the obvious.

the last 20 years of music hasnt gone down as well to me than the previous 20.
Guess im an old fart
But when i was DJ ing i made it an important decision to own everything that was released that went top 40 whether i liked it or not as that Dj was more likely to get return bookings and also to play what the audience requested rather than playing what they didnt request and taking the money. Its a pride thing. Djs these days dont even talk.
Plus i still get promos and songs sent to me digitally even though i dont dj anymore and i still buy cds of the artists i like.
The downside is in order to keep my number physical album collection up to date i have to buy stuff i dont like. A good example of this is BTS.
Does that answer your question?

^^^ So, you've bought every single Top 40 entry since 1/1/00, and every one of them is "sh*t".
I wish I had that amount of spending money to waste on things I hate.

My money from working went towards the bills of the house i live in. So i was constantly working 24/7.

My music habits were that up to about April 1998 I was based around what was making the chart, and then it became less focused on that but during 1999 I was still regularly listening to the chart so I knew most of the songs that were doing well in it.
During the 2000s I still followed the chart to some extent.
In the 2010s I pretty much lost touch with the chart altogether.
In any case, ManicKangaroo summed up the purpose of my strategy quite well - it's simply to avoid the "predictable" entries.
