Geoffrey Boycott mum with a stick of rhubarb could have done better than the England XI (with the honourable exception of Ben Stokes) batting today.
It seems like everything starting going to pot when Alex Hales was dropped from the squad for something that would make him a suitable candidate to be a Tory PM!

Match 32, Lord's: Australia 285-7 (50) Finch 100, Warner 53; Woakes 2-46 England 221 all out (44.4) Stokes 89; Behrendorff 5-44 Australia win by 64 runsMan of the Match: Aaron Finch After recovering from a poor start, England managed to keep Australia to less than 300 but an utterly pathetic effort with the bat (apart from Ben Stokes, who battled through injury to make 89) sent England tumbling to a second successive defeat and puts their top 4 place in serious jeopardy. Australia are the first team through to the semi-finals.

Sri Lanka look most likely to get that 4th spot now, we've bottled it!

Match 33, Edgbaston: New Zealand 237-6 (50) Neesham 97*, de Grandhomme 64; Afridi 3-28 Pakistan 241-4 (49.1) Azam 101*, Sohail 68; Pakistan win by 6 wicketsMan of the Match: Babar Azam After being reduced to 83-5, New Zealand recovered well to set a competitve target. Pakistan batted sensibly (England take note) to reach the winning line with 5 balls to spare and move to within a point of the top 4, while New Zealand suffer their first defeat and are yet to confirm their semi-final place. India are now the only unbeaten side left in the tournament though they've played 2 fewer games than most of the other teams.

Match 35, Riverside: Sri Lanka 203 all out (49.3) K Perera 30, Fernando 30; Pretorius 3-25, Morris 3-46 South Africa 206-1 (37.2) du Plessis 96*, Amla 80* South Africa win by 9 wicketsMan of the Match: Dwaine Pretorius One factor that was overlooked in the "Are England done for?" debate was that Sri Lanka really aren't very good (which makes England's abysmal showing against them even more painful). Pakistan are now very much the main threat to England's semi-final place, though if England lose their last 2 games, we could end up with a winner takes all showdown between Pakistan and Bangladesh. This match was notable due to play being stopped towards the end of Sri Lanka's innings due to the ground being invaded by a swarm of bees, forcing the players and umpires to lie on the ground for several minutes.

Wow what a game Pakistan v Afghanistan, ebbed and flowed until the final few overs when Pakistan put away a few boundaries and got over the line. Seemed a full house at Headingley, 90% Pakistani, 5% interested English and 5% Afghani (If I can say that?) Security went in three times in our stand dragging people out, I wondered what the hell was going on because no alcohol was involved! Pakistani fans are the noisiest Ive head, louder than the Indian fans I think, although they do prefer to watch a ruckus, or have a selfie than actually watch the game in front of them sometimes... West Indies v Sri Lanka monday will have a hard job matching this game for tension!

Ah it has been reported, although this was before the game which I didn't see, but there were massive Q's to get in to check the bags. Never realised that people wanted to run on the pitch at the end of the game either, security had fun with them!!! www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/48812583

Match 36, Headingley: Afghanistan 227-9 (50) Afghan 42, Najibullah 42; Afridi 4-47 Pakistan 230-7 (49.4) Imad 49*; Nabi 2-23, Rahman 2-34 Pakistan win by 3 wicketsMan of the Match: Imad Wasim A captain trying to lead by example, a ridiculous display of ego or a miscalculation? Who knows what led Afghan skipper Gulbadin Naib to bowl the 46th and 50th overs of the Pakistan innings, when his specialist bowlers still had overs remaining to bowl. From those 10 balls, he conceded 28 runs and cost his side a memorable victory. He finished with 0-73, with his other specialist bowlers finishing with figures of 2-23 (10), 2-34 (10), 0-32 (8) and 1-50 (10). Pakistan move into the top 4 and are one win away from the semi-finals if England slip up against India or New Zealand.

Trent Boult took the second hat-trick of this World Cup at the end of the Australian innings. New Zealand's batsmen never got going and they could still miss out on the semi-finals if England beat India on Sunday.

Match 38, Edgbaston: England 337-7 (50) Bairstow 111, Stokes 79, Roy 66; Shami 5-69 India 306-5 (50) Rohit 102; Plunkett 3-55 England win by 31 runsMan of the Match: Jonny Bairstow An excellent performance by England to put their World Cup campaign back on track. They made a spectacular start with the bat putting on 160 for the first wicket in just 22 overs. Despite being pegged back in the middle, they finished strongly to set India 338. India's chase started at a snail's pace and never recovered despite a partnership of 138 between Kohli and Rohit Sharma, with England's bowlers always on top. Some big hitting in the final over when the game had already gone meant the margin of defeat flattered India, who were outclassed in every department.

Well, why risk a back injury hitting a 6 when you are basically through already if it helps keep a rival out? As for Afghanistan, Hassan was injured and couldn't bowl, we saw someone holding their hand and asking for the trainer, and then the scheduled bowler changed, so I guess he was trying to lead by example, but he had already been their most expensive bowler, so maybe not the best decision? There were also several earlier misfields that cost at least 6 runs, if they'd had those extra runs to defend, who knows if that Pakistanis might have cracked earlier? Great win by England, off to a flyer, and kept the pressure on and India never really got close?
