Technically it's still the 2018/19 season as player and managerial contracts due to expire at the end of the season all do so on 30 June but whatever breaking news we have now will obviously affect teams next season so I thought it was time for a new thread.

and off we go and straight away it's a breaking Newcastle story... Rafael Benitez: Newcastle United manager to leave club
Newcastle United say manager Rafael Benitez will leave the club when his contract expires on 30 June.
The Magpies finished 13th in the Premier League last season as Spaniard Benitez, 59, secured the club's top-flight status.
"We have worked hard to extend Rafa's contract over a significant period of time," said a Newcastle statement.
"However, it has not been - and will not be - possible to reach an agreement with Rafa and his representatives."
This one has been rife for weeks. Rafa's contract expires next Sunday (30 June) and it was looking increasingly likely that no agreement would be reached in time with Rafa saying he wanted everything sorted out by that date. The club is in flux at the moment with supposed takeover talks taking place but seemingly going nowhere. It could be a long arduous summer at St James park...

Newcastle never told Rafa or the team that the statement was going out today. Classy Nothing surprises me when it comes to Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley (the chairman). Though I assume it was Ashley's decision alone to put out the statement as Charnley only barks or wags his tail when ordered to.

Avram Grant now favourite with some bookies. I remember Pardew beating West Ham 5-0 when Grant was in charge. Leon Best hatrick, Kevin Nolan and Peter Lovelypants. That would be THE worst appointment possible.
I hear Pardew still has a year left on his contract, he signed for Newcastle until 2020 ha. Might be worth giving him a ring

Someone at another board posted that about Pardew, that he might come back and see out his contract Avram Grant is a name I've not heard for years. I looked him up on wikipedia and spookily he works as a technical advisor to an Indian club called NorthEastUnited FC, which is commonly abbreviated to NEUFC. I think I'll pass on him...

Avram Grant was considered a decent manager with Chelsea and then didn't have much chance to succeed at Portsmouth but when he failed at West Ham it showed him up. But a lot of managers have had a major failure.
Alan Pardew didn't have that much chance to keep us up in 2007 but taking us to the bottom of the championship in 2008 was absolute failure. Phil Parkinson took over but it was far too late to save us.
You're not having Lee Bowyer. i know he used to play for you, I remember when he got into that fight with Kieron Dyer.

Watched the Algeria v Ivory Coast game, really enjoyable in the most part. What drew me in was the passion and emotion that the Algerian players were displaying throughout the game and particularly during the penalty shootout. It reminded me why I don't bother following England any more because that passion is missing. You'd never see the England team displaying such emotions, at least not since the days of Gazza and Psycho.

To cap off a brilliant sporting day, a world class injury time free kick by Mahrez put Algeria into the final. They are worthy finalists as they dominated the game and were quite unlucky with the penalty they conceded.

So this is only minor Scottish football, but after Berwick's demise and their dire form in the scottish league cup (betfred) I thought I'd see when they last scored a goal!!! 1230 minutes in league and cup, they have won two friendlies 2-0 and 3-0 against Coldstream and Billingham Synthonia though! This is their record... Berwick (1230 mins without a goal in league and cup) V Livingston 0-5 cup V Falkirk 0-3 cup V Stranraer 0-6 cup V Ayr 0-7 cup V Cove 0-3 play off V Cove 0-4 play off V Elgin 0-2 league V Albion 0-3 league V Clyde 0-5 league V Queen’s Park 0-3 league V Annan 0-6 league V Edinburgh City 0-2 league V Stirling 0-1 league V Peterhead 2-0!!! (13th and 30th mins) league
I cant find any records in England or Scotland for longest run without a league and/or cup goal, but it must be up there surely? It's 13 and a half games!!!
