The amount of Southampton players walking about the pitch was shocking, I know they were 3 down early on, down to 10 men and it was raining but that's not a good sign throwing in the towel when your up against it

It has been a long time coming. Two successive last minute escapes from relegation; a terrible recruitment process which has wasted a fortune; a stay-away Chinese owner who hasn't a clue; and a bunch of complacent players on long, over-inflated contracts. The Southampton side that drew with Leicester in October 2015 included two relatively unknown recent signings by the name of Virgil Van Dijk and Sadio Mane. I wonder what happened to them ? Southampton were on their way to a 6th placed finish that season, having finished 7th the previous year. Leicester, of course, finished 1st having risen from 14th the previous year. And Southampton were beating lower mid table fodder like Sunderland 8-0 around that time too

Tottenham sack head coach Mauricio Pochettinowww.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50480860Tottenham have sacked head coach Mauricio Pochettino after five years in charge of the Premier League club. "We were extremely reluctant to make this change and it is not a decision the Board has taken lightly, nor in haste," said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy. "Regrettably domestic results at the end of last season and beginning of this season have been extremely disappointing."

It looks like those Jose Mourinho - Levy rumours may be true. We'll see.

I'm delighted.
For a multitude of reasons, I've always disliked Spurs. But Pochettino turned them into a team that was good to watch and successful, and he always came across as a really nice guy. So he made them hard to dislike.
But now he's gone, and Mourinho's probably coming in, it will be really really easy to go back to loving every Spurs defeat.

Mourinho it is. He left Chelsea in 17th and Man U bottom half. Hopefully he goes on better and relegates Spurs.
No doubt for his 55m wages he will win something minor along the way but the compromise is he will turn Spurs into a posh Stoke

I guess that Levy was already after him and approached him during the international break. Spurs only drawing 1-1 at home against Sheffield United after trouncing Red Star away was probably the final nail in the coffin.
My guess is that Mourinho only agreed if he got a spending budget of the type that was never given to Poch. We'll see who he brings in during the transfer window.
Existing players will demand salary increases too so it looks like it will be heavy spending. Still the wages will presumably only match what Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United already pay.
He usually does best in his 2nd season. In Chelsea he won the league in his first, and then again in the second. Third seasons are always his biggest problem, though at Chelsea he finished 2nd in 2006-7 and won both cups. Winning anything would be an achievement for Spurs. They will probably need to finish 4th in the league now, however the path could be Europa Cup qualification this season then winning it next season like Manchester United did under Mourinho.
Spurs will have to pay compensation to Pochettino but loss of earnings would probably only be up to such a time he gets a similar job, so if Manchester United or Real Madrid hire him, it would end at that point assuming they pay him as much as Spurs did, which no doubt they would, if not better.
Spurs are so far behind Liverpool I can't see that it's feasible he will win the league. Spurs finished above Liverpool only 2 seasons ago. But they gave Klopp time and he is finally delivering.

Well Christian Eriksen, Toby Alderweireld, Jan Vertonghen are out of contract and 6 of their first team are over 29, most of the players have been there a long time in football terms, they needed to spend money years ago so they had a fresh hungry, young energetic squad now
Levy and the board failed massively, leaving Pochetino with a load of out of contract, over the hill or stale players incapable of playing his high tempo pressing game, the failure of Levy has lead to Levy sacking Pochetino so I for one am glad they have gone for a manager that has flopped at the two biggest clubs in England

Do they not have an academy there, the one that Harry Kane came through? And Chelsea, who were big spenders, are now taking advantage of their academy players.
These have also been giving us many of the England national team players.
Spurs achieved last season exactly what Liverpool did the year before, i.e. 4th in the league and runners up in the Champions League. The difference appears to be how they both continued after that. Spurs appeared to be off to a great start when they drew away at Man City. But then they lost at home to Newcastle and the problems, that were already apparent towards the end of last season, came up all over again.
Of course they are not alone. Manchester United and Arsenal are also having poor seasons, and both ended last season terribly allowing Spurs to still finish 4th in spite of their slump. Or maybe opponents are just not pushovers anymore.
Anyway, let's see if West Ham rip them apart.

In Chelsea he won the league in his first, and then again in the second. Third seasons are always his biggest problem, though at Chelsea he finished 2nd in 2006-7 and won both cups. Its easily forgotten that Chelsea were in a league of one when Mourinho was in charge, in terms of financial resources. Man City weren't bought by the Abu Dhabi royal family until 2008/09; Man Utd were "re-financed" by the Glazers in 2006, leading to several years of austerity; and neither Arsenal nor Liverpool were big league spenders. Quite frankly, my granny could have managed Chelsea to the championship during the era when Roman Abramovic was laundering throwing money at them like there was no tomorrow. Mourinho's one-off achievement at Porto was credible. I don't know about Milan. Nobody deserves any credit for winning the league at Real Madrid or the League Cup at Man Utd.

fragHave you heard the news about Maidenhead wanting to leave York Rd and move to Braywick Park (home of the rugby club)? There was talk about them having to move in the past, 2006 or 2007 IIRC, and I think I thought then that Braywick would be a good location. On a personal note, there's a good carvery there, and as a kid I remember going to a fireworks display there. Don't know why it got moved to Maidenhead's ground. One day I'll go to a game, and if anything being at Braywick would make it more appealing.

Coming as no great surprise... Manuel Pellegrini: West Ham sack manager after defeat by LeicesterWest Ham have sacked manager Manuel Pellegrini after a 2-1 home defeat by Leicester City - their ninth loss in the past 12 games. The Hammers' latest defeat on Saturday leaves them 17th, one point above the Premier League relegation zone. Pellegrini departs after 18 months in charge, having been appointed in May 2018 on a three-year deal. "It is with great disappointment that we've had to make this decision," said joint-chairman David Sullivan. "It has become clear that a change is required to get the club back on track in line with our ambitions this season. "We felt it was necessary to act now in order to give the new manager as much time as possible to try and achieve that goal." West Ham made the announcement within two hours of losing to Leicester. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/50362337
