www.theguardian.com/film/2019/nov/06/james-dean-to-be-resurrected-for-new-vietnam-war-dramaApparently there just wasn't anyone else suitable for the role, out of all the actors out there who are young, male, looking for work and, you know, alive. I know the family have signed off on this but I think there's something really nasty and ghoulish about digitally resurrecting someone who died over half a century ago so that he can be used to promote a film which he obviously knew nothing about before he died. I don't know but to me this is creepy AF. Anyone agree or disagree?

I'd understand if it was something like Carrie Fisher and Star Wars - a way to avoid having to up-end your story because of outside influences. I'd even slightly understand if it was something he was going to do before he died - but the book came out in 2008! In fact he died before the Vietnam War even started!
Horrible gimmicky nonsense.

I guess this is not a new thing - we had the aforementioned Carrie Fisher, duets with re-recorded lyrics, hologram tours - I see they are planning a Whitney Houston tour next year, and I’m sure there was a Tupac one at some point (May have made that up) - and also ABBAtars (although ABBA still alive and kicking) - it’s a next step in virtual entertainment for people who loved and wanted to see again, but this is a bit much for my 43 year old mind, but probably have to accept it. Fancy a virtual Beethoven concert next year greendemon?

Dead musicians performing holographically is one thing. I find it a bit creepy so wouldn't go, but I suppose I find it easier to understand as it's just extending what they did in life. And I have no problem with actors being 'brought back' to complete a film or series they'd started. But as Roo. says to me it's quite another thing to insert a long-dead actor into a production he could have had no knowledge of or anything whatsoever to do with while alive.

He's going to honk a bit... I expect he will have stopped smelling several decades ago

I'd love to go to the Elvis tour, but I don't really get the need for bringing James Dean back when there's a host of living actors they could have used.

I’m definitely 33 (next year) and have no recollection of queueing up to watch the Empire Strikes Back at the Exeter Odeon whatsoever.
