A true miss in a mostly hit filled singles catalogue. ...I'd completely forgot about that Amy Studt cover, what a waste of everyone's time that was. I forgot they covered this one

Poor Burkey - when she had 10/10 moments with Broken Heels, and the phenomenal Start Without You. And they launched her somewhat curtailed career with this odd choice of covers. Almost as ill fitting with Leon Jackson going straight in perhaps with a Christmas hit with “November Spawned A Monster”.
Anyway:

I love Melanie C, but I honestly have no idea what was she thinking with this single...

Always comes to my mind when talking about worst cover songs... It’s hideous - obviously I bought it as I like any old cack. I would say this was Britters worst: Zero value all round. Pound shop pop.

I'll admit Tiffany did a decent cover of I Think We're Alone Now. However this one she did was total pants.

A new entry to this thread, but fully deserving from a serious contender for the worst album of 2019 (Got It Covered: BBC Children In Need where a bunch of British luvvies maul pop classics (presumably Sheridan Smith was not invited to participate as she can actually sing, so would be regarded as a "ringer") with predictably grim results) proving she is as good a singer as she is a Doctor Who:

Picking on stars whose only purpose was to look good and who would be thrust in front of any old sh*t is like shooting fish in a barrel.
What I will mention along those lines however is when Channel 4 was doing a sitcom about a boy band (James Corden in the Gary Barlow role), they needed to do a "single" for the in-show universe, and decided to find the worst record ever to use in the show. They came up with "A Little Bit More" by Dr Hook.
And between shooting that and the show coming out, 911 had a hit with it.
It is however illustrative of the sheer stupidity of whoever was buying these records that there was a market for them. Falling for the most hackneyed promotional lies and tricks.
On a moreserious note, this one particularly got on my tits, as it was from an act of real artistic credibility and integrity, and they did what amounted to a straight cover version solely for the $$$$.

Anyway: Guess what I hate the Don McLean original the Rolling Stone magazine review "Imagine Paul McCartney trying to write a Bob Dylan song" was spot on; but I love this version because it completely eradicates the overwrought folkiness of the original.
Now if you want a turgid, rank, uninspired cover by Madonna here is what in 2016 Yoko Ono described as the worst cover of any John Lennon song:

There is no chance in a million years I am clicking on that. The song makes me want to hyperventilate into a brown paper bag in any shape or form at best.
I will take your word that it’s worse than cholera.

I've only just come across this... To the mentor of the Beautiful South, don't use this in the final of Haven Factor (assuming you get there)

Here's another. I don't absolutely hate it but really, when the Jeff Buckley version exists, there's no need for this. I'm sorry but I absolutely love this version.
