How can it be a stunning version of a classic song WHEN IT IS EXACTLY THE f***ing SAME? Just plug in a different vocalist? [b A different vocalist makes it, by definition, a different version - you said it yourself. Can't imagine anyone getting so heated about such an inoffensive track - there is so much more in the world to get angry about. And Jacqui Abbott does an amazing job on this...

Surprised this hasn’t been posted yet, probably the worst thing she did after I love rock n roll and completely pointless!!

Marilyn Manson's Tainted Love is an inspired, brilliant cover! I Put A Spell On You is rubbish though, and his Sweet Dreams cover is bleh as well. Oh, I like Sweet dreams, it was his breakthrough. It's so dark compared to the original.

Basically everything Cascada ever covered, never understood her success.

As much as I love Tina Arena, her doing a cover of the Maria McKee song Show Me Heaven was a bit pointless - hard to tell them apart.

Basically everything Cascada ever covered, never understood her success. I don't think a song qualifies as a pointless cover if it is their debut hit as clearly it wasn't pointless as it broke the artist (at least in the UK). Lazy follow ups that do nothing to further their musical career do qualify, so "Truly Madly Deeply" is a good call.

I don't know Cascada's cover of 'Truly Madly Deeply' and I'm quite content to stay that way.

I don't mind Steps doing a Kylie song , but not Better The Devil You Know. Bananarama should have stayed well away from Careless Whisper.I love ver rams but you just knew it was gonna be bad. Girls Aloud consistently murdered every song they covered. No need for it when they were given plenty of good original tracks.

Yes, and also Steps version of 'Chain Reaction' added nothing to the original (although I did like 'Tragedy'!).
Girls Aloud's version of 'I'll Stand By You' is the worst - it just completely lacked any of the emotion that made the original so great. Although Atomic Kitten have to beat them for murdering classic songs!

Another one by Ronan - and you just know it was only recorded as it was a guaranteed hit for him.

In 2002 David Bowie was asked about cover versions of his own songs, by Radio 1 DJs Mark & Lard; and the brought up that cover. However, David said at least it is so bad it is good. In his opinion the worst cover of any of his own songs is/was ....
However, had he lived I reckon he might have changed his mind to an artist whom (he had a long time feud with) when the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 1996 insisted that she was inducting him into it he, his band and entourage went three miles down the road to play a gig in Cleveland, Ohio instead of attend & perform at his own induction:

Here are a couple from the US country charts…
Cheap Trick is so much better…
And Janis Joplin must be turning over in her grave…

Personally, I thought Janis Joplin's band Big Brother and the Holding Company 1968 cover was inferior to the original; as she over performed & emoted the hell out of it like a drunken X-Factor contestant.
Whilst the original 1967 Stax soul classic remains peerless:

Erma Franklin's Piece Of My Heart was a classic.
I wanted to use it as my 1992 entry in Time Factor but it wasn't eligible as it had been released originally in 1967.

Let’s all calm down and remember this massive quarry of cack:
The original was "Hey There Lonely Boy" by Ruby & The Romantics, in 1963. But many think Eddie Holman's cover with the gender change was the original.
That version was good enough though for me to chart both versions. Ruby & The Romantics got higher: #3 in 1963, Eddie Holman #8 in 1970. The song wasn't a hit in the UK until Eddie Holman's version was re-issued in 1974.
