I just came to post the chart for 15 March and noticed that 8 March hadn't been posted yet, so I will post 15 March chart over the weekend.
Meanwhile Elton John gets the highest entry this week with his classic "Philadelphia Freedom". Below that we have 3 entries inside the top 20, two of them popular glam rock-pop hits of rhe day that perhaps are underrated, in particular "Fancy Pants" by the "new" Kenny (who were managed by Mickie Most and used the name of a previous artist on his label but were completely different). It reached #4 in the UK but still it's unlikely you'll hear it on an oldies show except perhaps a top 10 rundown from that week. Between those glam rock hits one of the beautiful soul hits that came out in this era, this time from the Moments and Whatnauts, and it got ot #3 in the UK chart.

The Sweet return with a high new entry at #5, but there is a difference. All their previous hits were composed by Chinn-Chapman, but Fox On The Run is a song they wrote themselves, and that is the plan for Sweet going forward. And what a great song it is too - they had hidden talent. Perhaps they should have been locked in a room a long time ago and made to write something.
The second highest entry is another soul song, which I thought was a far bigger hit than it actually was, but looks set to be quite a big hit on my chart.

As the Sweet get to #1, Neil Sedaka's last charting UK single (which only reached #35) enters but he has another one already on the next playlist. He isn't the oldest person to enter the chart - C.W. McCall makes his debut, and yes he did other songs apart from "Convoy". He's already over 46 in making his debut, he's currently 91 and the 13th oldest UK charting artist still alive. Wherewas Barry White, Mike Reid and Lynsey De Paul are all dead - Mike Reid better known as Frank Butcher and 35 at the time of this hit, the song from the Hans Christian Anderson musical with his own cockney interpretation. Jimmy Castor is also 35 at the time of this hit, and also no longer alive in 2020 (died in 2012).

KC & The Sunshine Band get the highest new entry but in general the bubble has burst, the first 3 weeks of March had so many top songs, the last two weeks have not really and into April I am finding the same pattern. So we see David Bowie still in the top 5 where it should be as it's a top song, with Kenny climbing up to #4, the same as its UK peak and Blackbyrds up to #3 and Elton John gets yet another #2 - he seems to be peaking at that position a lot at the moment, but has had 3 #1s.

The Sweet get a 4th week at #1, the same number of weeks "Ballroom Blitz" spent at #1 in 1973. On that occasion they were replaced at the top by the Carpenters "Top Of The World" and as they get the highest new entry this week they are all set to repeat the feat. Also entering this week in the top 20 are the Three Degrees with their big follow-up to "When Will I See You Again" and Kraftwerk with one of their famous works - the album version is close to 10 minutes long but I have played the single edit.
Lower down we have an entry by Teach-In, the Eurovision winners as the Shadows depart the other way. I think this is weaker than their last year's entry "I See A Star" and even that was only the 3rd best song that year in the contest, so really 1974 was Eurovision at its best.
Kiki Dee's entry "How Glad I Am" is the same song as Nancy Wilson's "(You Don't Know) How Glad I Am" which was a hit in 1964, and Kiki Dee also released a version of the song that year (yes she was recording that long ago) but this is a new arrangement. She enters as Helen Reddy's arrangement of "Amoureuse" drops to #38 this week (under the title of Emotion). The original Amoureuse was in the French language. Kiki Dee's version reached #5 in 1973, and whilst they share the same tune they have totally different lyrics.

This time the Carpenters could not replace Sweet after 4 weeks on top for that band, but may do so after 5 weeks..
As heard on Haven Factor.. the highest new entry is by Frankie Valli & The Four Seasons. Marc Almond would later also record a cover of this song (when reunited with Soft Cell).
And then there's a bunch of other new entries. The song by Betty Wright is not a cover of Roberta Flack & Donny Hathaway. The Benny Bell song that failed to enter is a comic song with a load of tales where the first part of the couplet ends with "-it" and the second goes "fell in a pile of sh..." so you're expecting it to rhyme but instead it's "Shaving cream..." Rather a silly song, might have charted it just for the humour but didn't. The normal version not being on Spotify worked against it too, as I listened to parts of this list before I grabbed the "not on Spotify" ones, which affected Stephanie De Sykes too.

The Carpenters get their 3rd number one, and it's the second time they've replaced The Sweet at #1 to get there. The highest new entry by Jessi Colter is quite a "haunted" sound. She was married to Waylon Jennings and previously to Duane Eddy (who drops out of the chart this week, I guess this chart ain't big enough for the both of them).

The highest new entry is a solo hit by Mott The Hoople's Ian Hunter. That song was covered in the 1980s (but not by Vespa Williams which is a completely different song, but by Great White, an American rock group). Alice Cooper's entry was covered even quicker, by Julie Covington in 1978.
Frankie Valli moves up to #2, his highest chart position (including Four Seasons songs) since "Can't Take My Eyes Off You" reached the same position in 1967.
Both the Carpenters and Frankie Valli have been in Haven Factor now as has Elton John who is also in this chart. We haven't yet had anyone take on 10cc but it might be a good option - not sure if they had enough hits or how popular they would be on Haven. There are some other artists who could make interesting choices too. (The Sweet, Neil Sedaka, (Detroit) Spinners, KC & The Sunshine Band. Maybe Lulu as an act for Last Dreamer to mentor).

The Carpenters lead again with the Stylistics closing in.
It is noted that since the start of 1973 when Carly Simon was #1 with "You're So Vain", only two artists featuring female vocals have reached #1, and both have done so twice. The Carpenters and Abba.

So for the first time the Stylistics, who had far more hits than I had recalled, get to #1. In the US though this flopped.
Captain And Tennille are best known for this song and "Do That To Me One More Time" but there are a few other songs they could well chart with in the interim.
Clint Eastwood very happy with Ray Stevens who played Misty for him.... It's an old standard but this is a totally new arrangement, country style, and actually very good, for those who knock Ray Stevens.
Elvis Presley the first of two hits within a short space of time that spell out a 7-letter word, the other to come.

10cc's most famous song enters the chart at #5 this week.
Van McCoy gets the second highest entry with a tune that is mostly instrumental but contains spoken words "Do it.." and "Do the hustle..." His later big hit "The Shuffle" would however be totally instrumental. He has however made a far bigger contribution to the charts than just these. He wrote the #1 hit for Jackie Wilson "I Get The Sweetest Feeling" and has written some other songs that either have been or will be hits. He is also responsible for the instrumentation in the current #1 by the Stylistics, i.e. his orchestra is playing it. (But he didn't write any of the Stylistics songs).
One of the entries in the chart (not on Spotify) is Judy Mae by Boomer Castleman, which is interesting in that it is charting the same time as "Send In The Clowns" by Judy Collins. The connection is that "Send In The Clowns" is from the musical "A Little Nightmusic" which is about a father who married a much younger woman, similar age to his son, after his wife died, and the relationship between the son and his step-mother, and the song Judy Mae has the same theme.

Not quite true ~ although he didn't write any hits for the Stylistics, Van McCoy did write: Keep My Fingers Crossed for their 1974 album, Let's Put It All Together Baby, Don't Change Your Mind & Starvin' For Love for their 1976 album, Fabulous
Of course, Baby, Don't Change Your Mind was covered the following year by Gladys Knight & The Pips, and was a hit for them.
Btw, great to see the Stylistics at no.1 (and the Carpenters before them!).

The Eagles get the highest entry this week. Nazareth's song is about the fore-runner to the Boris Bike - cycles for everyone but they were free to use, the only problem was it didn't work as with nobody to control and maintain them people took parts of them.

Geraldine - Toi was my Eurovision favourite in this year. My number ones are very unsuccessful here, especially Stephanie De Sykes.
Possibly my main hit from 1975 will flop in your chart too.

Entering at #7 this week, Glen Campbell already reaches a new chart peak. His previous highest peak is #11 with "Everything A Man Could Ever Need" in 1970.
Other entries include a new entry for Olivia Newton John where she doesn't want someone to play B-17. Almost sounds like she doesn't want to hear East 17 (or E-17) - a bit ahead of her time that one woudl be, but B-17 refers to a jukebox code. The Goodies song is listed simply as "Black Pudding" on Spotify but "Black Pudding Bertha" on OCC.
All the other entrants to my chart have had other hits at some point but Sister Sledge wouldn't do so until "He's The Greatest Dancer" in 1979. "Mama Never Told Me" was from the UK chart, in fact they were far more successful in the UK than they ever were in the USA, where only "He's The Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family" were hits. Mike Post would have his one other hit in my chart in 1982 with the theme from Hill Street Blues. America's equivalent of Simon May it would appear, he always charts with TV themes.
The "I'm On Fire" by Dwight Twilley Band is a different song from 5000 Volts that will appear later in the year (and obviously different to Bruce Springsteen). One for that topic. I don't think 5000 Volts will chart either as that sample of Black Is Black always annoyed me. Bruce Springsteen would chart with his song in 1985 though.

Geraldine - Toi was my Eurovision favourite in this year. My number ones are very unsuccessful here, especially Stephanie De Sykes. Possibly my main hit from 1975 will flop in your chart too. My next playlist has a song by a solo female vocalist that is almost certain to reach #1. The song didn't reach the UK top 50, but did peak at #3 in the USA. It's also a song most people would know. There's another US hit later that wasn't a hit in the UK in 1975 I am expecting to reach #1.

The highest new entry this week marks the start of "disco Bee Gees". Their last hit was "Alive" in 1973, which reached #26 and if you look for that one on Spotify it is there but you have to go down to the 12th search result (because Spotify search is sh**e), but in any case we're on Jive Talkin' now. (Spotify is further sh**e in its search if you dare to put a g at the end of the title).
Pete Wingfield isn't on Spotify.. who knows why, but it's quite a classic song.
A bit lower down, we get the second of the 7-letter word spelt out and the two are together. The song originally came out in 1968 but wasn't a hit then.
Lyn Paul was in the New Seekers. Not to be confused with Lynsey De Paul other than the commonality of not being on Spotify. Actually she has a "greatest hits " album on there that doesn't have her only hit (has no New Seekers songs either), and some are doubting its authenticity. (It's also for sale on amazon).
My latest playlist has 30 songs covering 3 weeks, and all of them were on Spotify. The 1959 list though had 3 missing (2 completely missing and one live version).
