I wanted to pick songs that were iconic in their era.
We need more 70s polls, I think we have only done the number ones.

The girls were right, the driver did need to keep his eyes on the road. I do wonder what kind of car it was though - was it a stretch limousine? In which case you could fit Fred and 7 girls in the back.
The song was previously a hit for Paul "Hello This Is Joannie" Evans as well as the Avons in the UK. The other one was a cover of Brian Hyland, whose other big hit "Sealed With A Kiss" had been covered to get to #1 a year before.
And no, Lionel Richie would never have done anything as bad as "Because I Love You (The Postman Song)".
The Turtle one I didn't like at the time but hearing it back in the retro chart it wasn't nearly as bad as I'd recalled and actually got into my top 20 in the replay chart, although that may have been before the "reshuffle" or close to that week.
Regarding Rita MacNeil, whatever you think of the music, it's clearly a lyrical song, about the demise of the coal-mining industry and she was from Canada, so it was clearly a global issue as the world switched to new fuel sources, rather than simply Margaret Thatcher, although in her case I thought it was more because of importing it cheap from abroad rather than changing the main source of fuel.
When you think about it, coal-mining wasn't exactly pleasant and there were "mining disasters" with workers getting trapped and dying, as well as other illnesses they may have got from inhaling the stuff, and if they could find better sources of fuel, all good, albeit it is unfortunate for those who may need to find new jobs, but that's what happens and you can't be a luddite about it.

Unchanged top 3, and as in the other retro chart, the one that gets to #1 in it falls in my chart from #4 to #6.
The highest entry is XTC, who are back nearly a decade since "Ball And Chain" although I haven't finished the "re-run" of the 1980s so "Love On A Farmboy's Wages", "All You Pretty Girls" and "The Mayor Of Simpleton" are all very likely to be hits that time. In 1982 they got to NM #1 with "Senses Working Overtime". "The Disappointed" was their first top 40 hit since "Senses Working Overtime" though as whilst all those I mentioned reached the UK top 75, none of them reached the top 40.
I was surprised to find that the man behind Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy was actually Michael Franti, who had hits later in my chart, reaching #5 in 2015 with "Once A Day".
Further down we have Bruce Dickinson singing a cover of Alice Cooper's "Elected" whilst Rowan Atkinson throws in his campaign of all the things he will do when he gets elected (which in the video he does after changing the ballot box when they are not looking). This came just before a general election, the one where we hoped we'd get Neil Kinnock in but the country were weak and went for John Major. After that election defeat, Neil Kinnock resigned and John Smith became the leader and reformed the party but died and it was Tony Blair who would bring the "new" Labour into power (and also the country into a war)
Dinah Washington's song was recorded around 1957 but never previously released, and came back after featuring in a commercial. She died around 1963, but in my chart reached #2 with "A Rockin' Good Way", a duet with Brook Benton (and a song later covered by Shaky and Bonnie, but her version with Brook is a lot better).
So the new entrants into the chart in 1992 include one who peaked in 1960 and one who peaked in 2015.

In this chart Queen couldn't get higher than #4 and drops to #6 this week, while Hot Chocolate move up to #2 ahead of Wings who drop to #3 with "Jet". Note that there was also a song called "Teenage Dream" in the chart last week but that drops out this week.
Someone else who will have many NM #1s is Billy Joel, who enters at #5 with the classic "Piano Man" on the week it enters the US top 40, although I've seen it in a few people's charts already. At this time I had my 9th birthday and was playing the piano at primary school and would take Grade 5 a bit later in the year.

These are the fixtures. The first 3 are from the Premier League and are playing on Saturday 30 March, the last 7 in the lower leagues are playing on 2 April.
So they cross over 2 months and I'm not sure how that has worked for monthly tables before, but as most of them are in April I'd say it should count for April.

Premier League has games on Saturday, other leagues Friday and Monday.
So I will probably combine 3 PL from Saturday with 7 from lower leagues playing Monday and have the fixtures up later

When many people heard Rhythm Of The Rain and End Of The World they had probably never heard the Cascades of Skeeter Davis versions and unlike now you caouldn't just grab the old version from online to hear how the original sounded.
Maybe that's why there were so many hit cover versions back then?

I bought their "First In A Million Kisses" album at the time, and they have 2 songs from it on my "moon" playlist (Moon On The Rain and The Moon Is Mine).
The bass guitarist is called Mark E Nevin and co-wrote most of the Kill Uncle album for Morrissey and also a few other songs. Morrissey says the album was rushed and I can sort of feel it because "Pregnant For The Last Time" isn't on it, and that's one of my other favourite songs that he wrote.
Eddi Reader did some solo material also in the 1990s.
This song is just ok though on first hearing.

41. Jason Donovan - Hang On To Your Love... 47 Rhythm Of The Rain
I wondered at this point if S/A/W had had enough of working with Jason Donovan and were giving him inferior songs and covers to do. Pete Waterman said in interviews that he wasn't a great singer. That he got "Too Many Broken Hearts" was probably the luck that they'd written it for Rick Astley who wanted to move on to writing his own songs so he was around to sing it instead, as they didn't have a suitable male vocalist to sing it at the time.
Similarly Sonia was given "End Of The World" at the time and she also had other hits with cover versions. Appears they were saving their best for Kylie whose output got better this year.
