So the year's best-selling single came about thanks to an episode of ITV's "Soldier Soldier" towards the end of 1994. Robson Green and Jerome Flynn performed the song in character in the show, leading to loads of middle-aged women wandering confused around Woolworths the next day, wondering why they couldn't buy it.

Gosh that Smokie & Roy 'Chubby' Brown song was terrible. Was firmly expecting a Robson and Jerome number one.
Thank you Hammy!

I had a feeling CĂ©line Dion would be number one, and that's even without the last few months of 1994. It's probably up with the Wets and Bryan Adams otherwise.
The Outhere Brothers had two number one singles but their album stalled at number 56.
