One adjustment to the above projection after the playoff draw. It is no longer possible for both Belgium and Iceland to qualify so Switzerland are now projected to qualify along with Iceland, with Austria still projected to qualify via the interconfederation playoffs.

EUROPEPlayoff Semi-finals: Portugal, Scotland and Wales all progres to the playoff finals on Tuesday after winning tight semi-finals. Scotland and Wales were both taken to extra time before overcoming their opponents. Scotland's tie against the typically resolute Austria was goalless after 90 minutes but Abi Harrison's goal in the 2nd minute of extra time sent the Scots through to a final against Ireland at Hampden Park. Wales were taken to extra time by the lowest-ranked team in the playoffs, Bosnia & Herzegovina, but Jess Fishlock found the winner just before half-time of extra time. Wales will travel to Switzerland for their final. The other semi saw Portugal spring a minor shock, scoring an 89th minute goal to beat Belgium 2-1 and they will host Iceland in their final. Remember, the two highest ranked final winners according to the runners-up table qualify for the World Cup. The other winner must go through the interconfederation playoffs in February. The finals count towards that ranking table with 3 points awarded for a win and 1 for a draw. It currently stands like this: 1. Switzerland 19 (+19) 2. Iceland 18 (+22) 3. Ireland 17 (+22) 4. Scotland 16 (+9) 5. Portugal 16 (+9) 6. Wales 14 (+8) Switzerland and Iceland are both guaranteed to qualify if they win their finals without the need for penalties. The only way Wales can qualify directly is if they beat Switzerland by two or more goals and either Scotland or Portugal qualify via a penalty shoot-out.

EUROPEPlayoff Finals: QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP | QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP |
The Republic of Ireland will make their World Cup debut after beating Scotland at Hampden Park. Amber Barrett scored the only goal of the game in the second half to send the Girls In Green to their first major tournament. They got a bit of help from Portugal who scored three times in extra time to beat Iceland 4-1. Had Iceland won, they would've qualified for the World Cup and Ireland would've had to go through the interconfederation playoffs but instead it's Portugal who have a little extra work to do to confirm their place. No such problems for Switzerland who qualify directly after beating Wales with a goal in the last minute of extra time. Wales had taken an early lead through Rhiannon Roberts but Fabienne Humm's goal sends the Swiss to their second World Cup. Ranking of playoff winners: 1. Switzerland 9-22 (+20) 2. Ireland 9-20 (+23) ------------------------ 3. Portugal 9-19 (+12) Taking part in the interconfederation playoffs in New Zealand in February: Cameroon Chile Chinese Taipei Haiti Panama Papua New Guinea Paraguay Portugal Senegal Thailand The playoff draw takes place on Friday. The top 4 based on world rankings will be seeded (though only one team per confederation can be seeded). The top 2 seeds receive a bye to the final round. There are 3 playoff paths with the winner of each qualifying for the World Cup. Teams from the same confederaion can't be drawn in the same playoff path. The interconfederation playoffs take place between the 18th and 23rd of February.

Draw for the interconfederation playoffs: 1st round: 2nd round: All matches to be played in February, in New Zealand. No guaranteed debutants from these playoffs as each path contains at least one team that has played at the World Cup before. Teams involved who have never qualified are Portugal, Senegal, Haiti, Paraguay, Papua New Guinea and Panama. Cameroon and Thailand, who both played at the last World Cup, being drawn together means Scotland avoid the indignity of being the only team that played at the 2019 tournament that has failed to qualify for this one.

INTERCONFEDERATION PLAYOFFSSemi-finals: Two late goals gave Cameroon victory over Thailand to set up a final meeting with Portugal. The winners will go into a group with 2019 finalists USA and Netherlands, plus debutants Vietnam. Haiti had a comfortable win over Senegal and will face Chile next. The winners will be England's first opponents at the World Cup, also facing China and Denmark. Paraguay produced a stunning fightback to move to within one game of a first World Cup appearance. Chinese Taipei led 2-0 with 10 minutes to go but Paraguay scored twice in the space of two minutes to send the game to extra time and eventually prevailed on penalties. They will face Panama, who overcame a stubborn Papua New Guinea side managed by former Manchester City defender Spencer Prior. The winners will go into a group with Brazil, France and Jamaica. The interconfederation playoffs are all taking place in New Zealand.

INTERCONFEDERATION PLAYOFFSFinals: QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP | QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP |
Haiti and Portugal will both make their debut at the World Cup after two dramatic playoff finals in New Zealand. Haiti overcame Chile to seal their place at the finals. Melchie Dumonay put Haiti ahead just before half-time and skipper Nerilla Mondesir had a chance to seal it late on only to have her penalty saved by Christiane Endler. 11 minutes of stoppage time were added on and Chile hit the car only to see Dumonay double the lead for Haiti. There was still time for Chile to get one back and set up a desperate finish as the stoppage time eventually reached 15 minutes but the Caribbean side held on. They face a baptism of fire at the finals with their first two games being against European champions England and Asian champions China, before they play Denmark. Portugal earned their place in similarly dramatic fashion with victory over Cameroon. Diana Gomes put Portugal ahead midway through the first half but Ajara Nchout levelled for the Indomitable Lionesses in the 89th minute. The game was again decided in stoppage time when Portugal were awarded a penalty, which was converted by Carole Costa. Portugal will begin their campaign against 2019 runners-up Netherlands before facing fellow debutants Vietnam and reigning champions USA. Cameroon miss out on the World Cup for the first time since 2011. Paraguay and Panama will face each other for the 32nd and final place at the World Cup in the early hours of Thursday.

INTERCONFEDERATION PLAYOFFSFinals: QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP |
Panama take the 32nd and final spot at the 2023 World Cup after a narrow win over Paraguay. Lineth Cideno scored the only goal 15 minutes from time as Panama qualify for the first time. They will face Brazil, Jamaica and France at the finals. Panama's qualification means 8 of the 32 teams will be making their debut this year, the others being fellow playoff qualifiers Haiti and Portugal, plus Vietnam, Philippines, Morocco, Zambia and Ireland.
