A dramatic night in Group I as France won a thriller in Slovenia. The hosts took the lead midway through the first half but France levelled before the break and went ahead with half an hour remaining. An 88th minute penalty looked to have earned Slovenia a surprise draw but France were awarded a spot kick of their own in stoppage time and Amel Majri converted to give the visitors all three points. Wales dominated against Estonia but Natasha Harding's 6th minute goal was the only one of the game. Greece recovered from last week's 10-goal hammering by beating Kazakhstan.

The top 3 all won again. Moldova kept Switzerland at bay for 39 minutes but still managed to find themselves 4-0 down at half-time. I think there might be a slight error in the first result!

Yes, thanks. I try and get everything correct but there might be the occasional error. To shed a bit more light on why this occasionally happens, this is what I'm looking at when I post the results:

Malaysia are eliminated despite their win as it's impossible for them to finish top of the group. It comes down to Thailand and Palestine on Saturday, with Thailand just needing to avoid defeat.

Group B is underway in Tajikistan with Vietnam favourites to progress from the three remaining teams (reduced from four due to the understandable withdrawal of Afghanistan). Vietnam scored 11 second half goals, including six for Pham Hai Yen as they started with a crushing 16-0 victory over the Maldives. Amusingly, my scoreline graphics only go up to 15.

South Korea are the first side to progress from this round with a comfortable win over Uzbekistan. The Asian Cup is being used as the next phase of qualifying with the top six from the tournament qualifying for the World Cup and the other two quarter-finalists going into the intercontinental playoff tournament. The eight group winners from this round join automatic qualifiers Japan, China and Australia, plus hosts India. Australia, of course, qualify for the World Cup automatically as co-hosts, effectively offering an extra World Cup qualifying place at the Asian Cup.

Whilst this is still officially a group, it's effectively a two-legged playoff between Singapore and Indonesia, with both legs taking place in Tajikistan. Indonesia take the advantage into the second game thanks to an early goal.

Myanmar are the top seeds in this group and showed why with a comfortable win over Lebanon. The UAE needed a late penalty to avoid a shock result against Guam, who were playing their first Women's World Cup qualifying match for 16 years.
