3rd place table: 1. Czech Republic (Q) 3-4 (+1) 2. Switzerland (Q) 3-4 (-1) 3. Portugal 2-3 (+1) 4. Ukraine 3-3 (-1) ------------------------ 5. Finland 3-3 (-2) 6. Spain 2-2 (0)
Finland are still mathematically alive but they need every remaining result in the group stages to go their way. France beat Portugal by 4 goals or more Germany beat Hungary Slovakia beat Spain Poland fail to beat Sweden

0 goals in 7 games for Kane now at the Euros
1 goal in 12 in the UEFA Nations League (which matches you up against the best teams at your level)
6 in 6 at World Cups (which looks great on paper but they were 3 penalties, 2 tap ins from three yards out and 1 deflection off his arse with 5 of the 6 goals coming against Panama and Tunisia)
So from open play he has scored in competitive games and major tournaments against Tunisia, Panama (if we generously count the deflection off his arse that he knew nothing about and Croatia) and drawn blanks against 22 of the 25 teams we have faced, 23 blanks in 25 games if your not willing to credit him the Panama goal
In big games he goes a bit Spursy, looks so slow and sluggish, drops too deep and has zero chemistry with this England forward line, the question is do we give a young hungry more dynamic forward a chance? or stick with Kane?

Wales are through on goal difference above Switzerland. Gareth Bale missed a chance that might have made it 1-1 as well. Good to see Chris Gunter playing. Yeah it was good to see Gunter play, and surprising (he's an ex Royal in case you're wondering). Didn't think he had a bad game.

In the World Cup 1966 we beat all 3 of France, Portugal and (West) Germany on the way to winning it.
Since then, we beat France in the groups in World Cup 1982 and lost to them in the groups in Euro 2004 and in both those the winner went through as top of the group and the other as runner-up.
We drew with them in Euro 1992 and both went out. We drew with them in Euro 2012 and both went through, with England as group winners.
We lost to Portugal in the group of WC 1986 but we went through and they went out due to our other group games. We lost to them in the group of Euro 2000 and they went through as champions whilst we went out. We also played them in the knockout stages of Euro 2004 and WC 2006 and they beat us on penalties both times.
We lost to (West) Germany in the knockout stage in WC 1970, then drew with them in the 2nd phase group in 1982 but they went through and we didn't because they beat Spain. We lost to them on penalties in the semi-finals of WC 1990 and Euro 1996. We beat them in the group in Euro 2000 but both went out and we lost to them in the knockout phase of WC 2010. We also met in the qualifiers for WC 2002, each one winning the away game, with England winning 5-1 away in Germany and winning the group ahead of them on goal difference, but they qualified too via the playoffs (then had a nice easy run to the final!)
So based purely on our head-to-head records against them since winning the world cup in 1966, we'd probably least like to face Portugal who have outdone us every time, and would be best off against France against whom our head to head record is pretty much equal.

We've just won 3 games in a row, Sterling has scored two goals and you're picking fault with our main striker? I dont get the negativity after what we've done, yes we've not looked like world beaters, but we are through the group stage, let's celebrate not criticise.

Oh and didn't we hit the post in all three games in the first 10 minutes? Quite an impressive feat, and if they go in in the future, maybe it will improve our confidence.

^^^ Agreed. If we win the next four games 1-0 I'll be delighted.
Also, we have so many options across the pitch. We're not reliant on the brilliance of a small number of players like Beckham, Rooney, Gascoigne or Shilton, like we once were.
England play much more as a team under Southgate than they have under any manager since Alf Ramsey. Inidividually, our players aren't as good as the 1966 team, but also they're much younger. We might not make the semi-finals this time, but the direction of travel remains positive.

Well actually we drew 0-0 with Scotland so 1 win in a row but that's not the point and I'm not criticising Sterling either, or the team so not sure what your reply is about? frustration at everyone piling on Southgate and England but I'm not everyone, its 1 question about 1 player.
I'm not criticising the team, I'm creating debate about 1 player who has failed to perform now in the 23 of the 25 games that matter, the rest of the team are working quite well as you say, its a genuine question and a genuine concern, if we click upfront too we could win the thing so its an important issue, if you haven't seen anything alarming in Kane's play then we have been watching different games
Would we be better served with a Rashford or Calvert Lewin coming into the team based on Kane's below par performances? or stick with a frontman that not offering goals and looks a bit slow and disjoined, its just a question, we have done well so far but we just might need to up our 0.66 goals a game when we play the better teams and a striker that is scoring from open play is key

Kane had no service whatsoever in the first two games. He had one good chance last night that he probably should've scored but the keeper made a decent save. Given the overall style of play, I'm not sure the goal tally would be any different if Calvert-Lewin was playing instead of Kane.

Scotland doing what they do best, get beat once they build up your hopes, some things never change I actually feared for them when I saw the reaction after the England game. A goalless draw against a team that didn't play that well and they were acting like they'd just won the World Cup when they still had the actual World Cup runners-up in their final game. I only saw it going one way...
