The next host of countdown to replace Nick Hewer will be the first female presenter the show has had for a regular host.
It has been revealed as
The one and only Anne Robinson

Colin Murray did a brilliant job standing in for Nick Hewer a couple times earlier this year. Given her age, I hope Anne Robinson's appointment is a short-term one while Murray fulfils other commitments before replacing her.

This was announced weeks ago but her shows start airing from 28th June It was indeed but nobody (including me) started a thread. That publicity photo is either photoshopped or was taken some time before recording started. Rachel looks less pregnant there than in today's programme.

That publicity photo is either photoshopped or was taken some time before recording started. Rachel looks less pregnant there than in today's programme. Most likely the latter - I think they film the shows a few months in advance and as mentioned, it was announced Anne was taking over towards the end of last year.
I like Nick - very relaxing and perfect for Countdown. I think it's a strange choice to have Anne has a presenter too but I'm open minded. Hopefully Anne doesn't bring her "Weakest Link" persona to Countdown.
I found Colin Murray a little condescending when a contestant struggled in a round but he did engage to the guests and the contestants very well. Maybe something he can tweak should he present again.

Colin Murray has proven himself a very capable host on both TV and radio and while I haven't seen any of his Countdown episodes, I'm not surprised he did a good job. He's been one of Eurosport's snooker presenters for a while but announced last month he's leaving that role so I'm not sure what he's doing next.
I'm sure Anne Robinson will be fine. I think her style will be much closer to what we saw on Watchdog for all those years rather then The Weakest Link.

I thought she did all right for her first appearance today. Stamped her own authority and uniqueness to the role but I can see it becoming annoying quickly.
There were a few small things to criticize but seemingly a justified appointment.

She was clearly nervous but that should pass quickly enough. I hope she drops the “see you tomorrow” nonsense with the rest of the team and the winning contestant. That got extremely irritating under Nick Hewer.

I think I've now given her enough time. She's terrible. Leaving aside her habit of referring to that awful blob of flesh in Downing Street as if he is a mate, she is still awful. Among her many faults is her habit of congratulating contestants on getting very simple number rounds correct. She is either being patronising or demonstrating that simple arithmetic is beyond her capabilities.
Jeff Stelling is leaving his Sky Sports role. Therefore, we can either have him back or see Colin Murray take it on.

I fully agree and she's getting more and more worse as time goes on. I think I've hit the mute button or switched channels more now during the show than I did when Nick was presenting - purely so I don't have to hear her patronising contestants or being interested in something in a sarcastic way or hearing why she doesn't like something.
I've noticed she saying (or scripted) "I hope you can join us tomorrow" recently at the end. To me it sounds like a beg to the audience to watch the next show.
You wonder if the rate of applicants applying for the show has dipped since she took over to avoid the awkward questioning you'll inevitably get.

I've often vaguely wondered about applying to be a contestant. It certainly won't happen while she is hosting the show.

Not sure how true on the fact she was on £500,000 for that year but good news!
As said before, the print on the mute button on my remote is gradually fading since she took over - mainly in those segments where she was talking with the contestants.
Wonder who they've got lined up next? Colin Murray probably favourite in the running. I sense it could be a newsreader of some sort.

Well if they're going for another older female, Angela Rippon or Moira Stewart would be great choices.

She might have put them off going for someone older if they don't plan to stick around for long

Not a moment too soon. Her presenting style, surely a hangover from her years presenting The Weakest Link, didn't really suit the show for me. It'll be interesting to find out who's replacing her.
