Question for participants if I may. The 1980s number fours are a few rounds left - looking at number fives for 1989 at a starter point for a companion thread series doesn’t seem too bad, but don’t want to detract from Kingpin as he is on 1989 at the moment on the retro chart and may be spoilers. Would anyone be brave enough for Rate The Number Ones of the 90s starting at 1999? There are lots of them!

We could go into the 70s and we already did the number ones there so it would be the number 2s. Actually I'm not sure we even finished the 70s number ones. There is going to be a Time Machine 70s soon though, so not sure how it would influence it.

That’s why I avoided the 70s option.

a shame because the 70s is my favourite decade for music

Well then look forward to Time Machine - my question was about the 1990s!

Yeah 90s are good, an interesting mix of shockers and bangers

yayyyy 90s!
I keep forgetting to do the 80s ones. I'll do the ones that are still running/left if I remember! And I'd definitely do 90s ones.

Yes, I'd do the 1990s.
And no, I didn't see your suggestion as an opportunity to propose something completely different, and wholly inappropriate.

Yeah, 90s would be good - I would remember most of them - I was still following the charts then.

Jolly good - thank you for the feedback.
I will get the first one set up to run along side the remaining 1980's rounds.

Looking forward to 1999 number ones then, all 36 of them or however many there were, including 4 Westlife songs. (5 but one of them was a double A-side)

If you like. My number ones from 1999 were much better on the whole. Blondie's "Maria" and Robbie Wiliams "She's The One" are the only ones that overlaps the UK number ones. You'd get 3 songs by the Clint Boon Experience in that year.
What score out of 10 would you give this one? Number one in my chart in October 1999.

My number ones from 1999 were much better on the whole. Oops! It's my favourite year for UK # 1 singles, five from them were my # 1s too ("Heartbeat", "Maria", "Baby One More Time", "Mi Chico Latino", "Lift Me Up"). Possibly I'm only one person here, who don't have anything against manufactured pop groups.

What score out of 10 would you give this one? Number one in my chart in October 1999. From 5.0 to 6.5 (or maybe even 7.0). In UK chart two songs were # 1s in October, "Genie In A Bottle" is on the same level with your # 1, maybe a little worse. "Blue" will get only 4.0 out of 10 from me. I can't give more accurate answer, because usually my score is not static number (if it's not 9-10, which are very rare thing) and will base on a full list of entries. For sample I could give the third place and 8 points for this song in last Lingovision. Also my marks are very strict and even 4/10 is not bad rate at all. I will always vote in a similar games, because it's much more unpredictable and interesting than the ranking of big hits from UK chart again and again. We already had huge forum voting for our favourite all-time UK # 1s, # 2s and # 3s.

No you are not I’d rather listen to all of them than that Half Man Half Biscuit track, although Mi Chico Latino is a close call, never got their kooky humour or even liked their sound that much, although I think I do have a couple of their singles.

But go on, enjoy Westlife...
