I dont often comment on VAR because generally I believe it is good, but how they can look at the West Ham goal v Leeds and not give offside is just baffling. I'm assuming they came to the conclusion that Bowen never touched the ball so wasn't offside despite challenging the gk for the ball from a clear offside position, and so was totally and utterly active, ie offside! They will be relieved there was a last minute 2nd goal for West Ham, which only came about because Leeds were pressing for an equaliser to a goal that shouldn't have been allowed.

I expected it to be called offside, might have something to do with a few games ago West Ham received clarification from Premier League referees that Vladimir Coufal should not have been sent off against Arsenal and should have been awarded a penalty kick at Burnley, they have been getting one major call wrong every game through December, about time a wrong call went their way, unlucky for Leeds it turned out to be their turn to suffer
More importantly why was VAR being used in only 9 of the games? cant have it in some games and not in others for me
Not that VAR made any difference here, the lino and ref gave the West Ham goal so if there was no VAR it was a goal

VAR was only used in games at Premier League grounds.

I know it was used in games at Premier League grounds, but in a competition with 32 ties using it in just 9 games is odd, a VAR competition and a none VAR competition are two differently officiated competitions, it should be all VAR, or no VAR, or you get inconsistencies where, the richest teams get their decisions double checked but the poor lower league clubs have to lump it when there's a wrong call! Not that VAR has been correcting wrong calls lately, the competition might aswel be void in terms of integrity, same with the League cup if they change the rules partway through to play 1 leg ties instead of 2 in the next round and the Premier League teams calling games off because they have a few injuries, taking advantage of covid loophole to have a rest when they only have 2 or 3 cases, seems most competitions are on the brink of being a joke

Yeah and Leicester played in the cup yesterday but can't play their game in hand on Tuesday against Everton in the league due to covid but will play again at the weekend. It makes no sense
Teams are just calling off games they don't fancy playing but other teams were forced to play 9 games in Decmeber!

I can't believe what I've just seen. Reading 0 Fulham 7! It could have been double that too... needless to say, Fulham were quite brilliant.

Dereham are 4th in the league. Its a close division and let's hope they can stay in the top 4.

I totally forgot that the Premier League are having a 2 week mid-winter "break" both this weekend and next. I'm not sure how much of a break it can be though when teams are flying half way around the world...

I totally forgot that the Premier League are having a 2 week mid-winter "break" both this weekend and next. I'm not sure how much of a break it can be though when teams are flying half way around the world... I think the break is purely because of the extra covid-catchup international window and most games would've been called off anyway due to the international callups. UEFA did a good job of getting caught up with its calendar and would've faced a massive outcry if friendlies involving European teams had been scheduled for this month.

So we can expect them to be looking fresh and raring to go when they come back, as their managers are always moaning about how many games they have to play... Record Breaking Stags yesterday were awesome. I'm not sure how much longer it will continue as we have some tough games coming up, but we are in the right place in the table at the moment. And amazing when we had a 14 match winless streak earlier in the season. Also great to see Perch back in the squad after his fractured skull.

How have I missed the introduction of sin bins in the lower leagues, must be ages since I watched my local team play with Covid around I guess? Wonder if the idea will make it higher up where it is sorely needed!

How have I missed the introduction of sin bins in the lower leagues, must be ages since I watched my local team play with Covid around I guess? Wonder if the idea will make it higher up where it is sorely needed! It's been around at step 5 and lower for three years now. So far the use of sin bins has only been approved at grassroots level worldwide but I would certainly like to see it at professional level.

Marcelo Biesla has been sacked by Leeds United
Marcelo Bielsa: Leeds United sack Argentine manager after loss to Tottenham
Head coach Marcelo Bielsa has been sacked by Leeds United after a run of poor form that saw his side suffer several heavy defeats.
The 66-year-old Argentine, appointed in June 2018, leaves with the Whites two points above the relegation zone.
Under Bielsa, Leeds finished ninth last season on their return to the Premier League after a 16-year absence.
But Saturday's 4-0 defeat by Tottenham meant they had lost their past four games by an aggregate score of 17-2.
"This has been the toughest decision I have had to make during my tenure at Leeds United, taking into account all the success Marcelo has had at the club," said Leeds United chairman Andrea Radrizzani.
"With Marcelo as our head coach, we had three incredible campaigns and the good times returned to Elland Road. He changed the culture of the club and brought a winning mentality to us all."
Leeds had finished mid-table in the Championship in six of the previous seven seasons before Bielsa's arrival.
After they lost in the play-offs to Derby in the 2018-19 season, Bielsa's team was promoted as champions in July 2020 when the following season restarted after the coronavirus pandemic.
Radrizzani added: "I have to act in the best interest of the club and I believe a change is required now in order to secure our Premier League status. Recent results and performances have not met our expectations.
"We find ourselves in a precarious league position and I feel now is the right time to bring in a new head coach, in order to have an impact in the decisive stage of the season."
Leeds striker Patrick Bamford, who became an England international under Bielsa's guidance, was among the many Whites players who expressed their gratitude to the former Argentina, Chile and Athletic Bilbao coach on social media.
"The man who changed everything for everyone," said Bamford.

Leeds are in freefall at the moment so the decision comes as no great surprise. Leeds have shipped something like 26 goals in the last month and have been dragged into the battle to avoid relegation. It's sad to see the guy go though. He's quite a character.

My son is gutted, he thinks he should have been given until the end of the season, even if it meant relegation. We shall see how the new guy gets on, 1st prioirity is to make them hard to beat and grind out 0-0s! On a separate note, and I know we have discussed this before, but I watched some of those old Big Match programmes, and one was Norwich v Leicester at the end of the 80-81 season. And quite clearly they were singing You'll never walk alone, this was May 1981, and I think it was the Norwich fans after they went 1-0 down, but I found it quite odd to hear it.

Bonnyrigg Rose qualify for the Lowland v Highland playoff game already. Highland side of it could be 4 teams including relegated last season Brechin City! No team has ever bounced straight back. They look like they will face the Blue Brazil, Cowdenbeath. And Kelty hearts who were promoted from the lowland league last season are soon to be promoted again to league 1!

Chelsea now the laughing stock of English football after making a request to the FA for their FA Cup tie against Middlesbrough to be played behind closed doors for reasons of "sporting integrity". The request was later withdrawn after the club was widely condemned and pilloried from all quarters.
