I'm sure this has probably been done before but post a youtube video to your favourite childrens TV themes. I imagine people will be posting tunes from when they were children...

I'll start with one of the most memorable and beautiful themes, from The Adventures Of Black Beauty, a TV favourite of mine on a Sunday afternoon in the early 70s.

Then there's the wonderful The White Horses theme, sung by Jackie Lee. Another early 1970s favourite for me, it was repeated every summer during the long school holidays.

And of course Jackie also sang the Rupert The Bear theme from the early 1970s...

Only two more from me. This one is another great theme from a TV programme I watched in the early 1970s. It's 'The Lightning Tree' by The Settlers, the theme to Follyfoot
Nathan Evans seems to have rewrote this one as 'Wellerman'...

Finally, a stirring song which was the theme tune to The Flashing Blade. A great theme but neither I nor anyone else I knew could make head or tail of what exactly was going on. Like The White Horses the programme was dubbed into English. Unlike The White Horses, which was basically about a girl and a horse, therefore making it easy to understand, The Flashing Blade was about some sort of war between France and Spain and involved lots of people fighting and talking gibberish. But the theme tune made up for it. It was also a programme that would be shown each summer during the school holidays in the 1970s. It was actually quite a violent programme and I very much doubt if its the sort of programme that is ever likely to get shown again. Certainly not on CBBC or CITV!

Another programme I remember from the early 1970s! I think this one was broadcast on ITV on a Saturday morning?

Loved The Flashing Blade but I can’t for the life of me remember how the series ended. 🤔

According to wikipedia it ended with France and Spain signing a peace treaty. Not that i would remember that as I only watched the programme for the theme tune. Only 12 episodes were made but because it was repeated so many times, like The White Horses (of which only 13 episodes were made) the series seemed to go on a lot longer.

I've just thought. Should this thread be in Retro or TV & Film. I completely forgot there is a TV & Film forum! Which is best ManicKangaroo?

Is that Children's TV?

I watched it as a child, I assumed it was meant for children, but being American it didn't feature in the normal "children's TV" slot when Blue Peter etc were one.

And you can't beat Scooby Doo If you want a theme that is just pure fun, it has to be this. Or, as per this week's chart commentary, there is always And how could we forget this?
