I had thought (worried) that they were going to go at a much faster pace, but if this is all they covered in episode one, and knowing how much more there is to cover in this chapter, we're in for a long old ride!
I think they did about as well as they could have, but I do think this will struggle to live up to GoT simply because of the single focus and plot-line.

Sounds like a series to binge all in one go once all the episodes are out

I thoroughly enjoyed that, which was a bit of a surprise.

I thought it was ok, but a little underwhelming. Hope it picks up, need the dragons to eat a few peasants.

Oh I don't imagine for a second that we'll be short on Dragon violence and chargrilled peasants this season...

Episode 2 almost as good as the first - so far this is looking good.
One gripe I do have is that they're not focusing much at all on the bond between the riders and the dragons. With Dany in GoT they had the benefit of many series where they could build that up, so that when they did eventually perish it felt big. Not sure how they're going to do that here.

Also a big fan so far, although I see some of the reviews are not being very favourable. My one gripe is why the king talks to the guy for his valued opinion and then ignores it, on whom he should marry. I guess it's just for the dramatic effect of him choosing someone different to spice things up. And it irks him to marry a 12 yo, but it's ok with a 16yo? Fine margins I guess

Yes but as every good king knows, it's about what is good for the realm, not yourself, and Viceyrs was supposed to be a good king, hence the long peace. And the usurped dad going straight to the brother, what does that achieve if he's on the throne, unless he was persuading him to marry his 12yo daughter?

I know we can all see why it’s a bad idea but also he has to wait till she’s 14 methinks he knows he might not last that long.

I'm hoping that House Of The Dragons will come up with some of the plot shockers that characterised Game Of Thrones. If this were a conventional story, then we'd all be able to see where things are leading. But, we'll see...
As for some of the criticisms that are being raised (not necessarily here). We're less than 2 hours into the series, and that makes it inevitable that some aspects of GOT haven't been matched, and that the character portrayals aren't all that deep yet. I'm enjoying it. But I'm wondering whether the fact that I'm not having to work as hard to keep track of the multiple sub-plots as I did with GOT will end up counting against HOTD.

These comments are making me wonder how many of us have read the source material I haven't read anything by George R R Martin, ever. Not sure whether that increases or decreases my enjoyment of GOT and HOTD.

These comments are making me wonder how many of us have read the source material I haven't read anything by George R R Martin, ever. Not sure whether that increases or decreases my enjoyment of GOT and HOTD. I'll never know if it's increased or decreased mine - all I know is that I enjoy it a shedload more than most things on TV! The source material for this series is actually very very scant on the details, so it's great to already see the creative liberties they're taking with the surrounding details (e.g. this crab person hardly gets a mention beyond the nickname and method of torture, but having an undeniable 'villain' that ties into the overall plot is brilliant). On the flipside, I had mixed feelings about the conversation in front of the dragon skull last week about the dreams of winter... seemed a desperate attempt to link the two series which felt unnecessary to me as it's so clearly the same universe... and actually could have done without seeing that dagger and being reminded of how that whole plot ended

I've read nothing of this story either, but I did read the GofT books but only after watching season 1, so I had that shocking ending, but then knew about the other shocks. I thought I'd watch this not knowing what's coming...

I’ve been really enjoying it, and never read the books either. But as with any GOT it takes me about three or four episodes to work out what is all going on - don’t know why, but liking it a lot nonetheless. I’m that annoying person who asks questions whilst it’s on.

I hope the action picks up soon as I am at the point of giving up on it.
