I would definitely enter a 60s Time Machine, but I suppose it will be up to whoever wins the 70s one.

Me and Hupin were talking about what kind of Idol contest we want to jointly run as winner/highest placed contestant of the last contest and thought it's a bit too soon for Pot Pourri Idol 3, someone else can run that in the future, what we want to run is Rock Idol 2, a sequel to the original Idol contests so put us down to run Rock Idol 2, when? I'd say the summer is a good time to pencil it in

So do I but when 99.99% music can qualify for the game, its just not the same. It used to be clear cut in 2008 even maybe even 2012 a band like Wet Leg or Sea Girls would have a top 40 hit and we would exclude them but now almost anything is game. If we bring HIT back we really need a new definition of 'Hidden'

If we bring HIT back we really need a new definition of 'Hidden' We did that a while back with maximum youtube plays, and maximum streams could similarly be introduced. I gave up on "non-hit single of the month" for similar reasons though. Exclude acts that are A-listed by major radio stations - that includes Radio X. I'd also like to put a timeframe on the entries, in particular not allowing the "next big thing" in some of the contests, although next big things was the perfect intention for "non-hit single of the month" designed to promote great current music that was not commercially successful.

How do you know what the next big thing is, you used to slag of Sound Of every year which literally does this. I have been tipping Baby Queen for the last 18 months and now she is on the Sound Of list but whether that actually trranslates into her becoming unhidden I am not so sure. Dry The River and Friends both made that list in 2012 and they are totally the kind of acts you would expect in HIT, and yes they were tipped to be big, they never went above cult status and are now largely forgotten although they are both still going. SAINT PHNX have been A listed on Radio X but I am sorry they are still pretty damn hidden for example. Also my favourite 'new' band Hot Milk have now been releasing music for over 3 years and they still havent even released an album, and yet they are supporting Foo Fighters and Pale Waves!!! But I still say they are hidden has most people are completely unaware of them.

Well yes, I guess I always went to a lot of effort to "search" for music, something they didn't really make very easy. The rest rely on music "promoted" on radio, media etc. and then I guess they enter what they like from those, but others who listened to the same radio stations or read the same media would also know of those bands.
Between 2014 and 2019 I had scripts that would search for "tag:new" on Spotify which returned a large set of results. From that I would pull out the artist and title and search on iTunes which would give me the genre, and I would filter by that.
I also filtered out other things.
Having got that down, the list (combined with the last 6 weeks of "wait" lists) would go through a youtube check for a video, a python script which used a graphics library too comparing thumbnails from the videos to see if they matched each other. That was used to determine if it was likely to be a motion video or an audio. It wasn't perfect but it worked reasonably well.
Then after that I would have around 200-300 songs and would get that down to a playlist of about 30, and listen to that all week.
The scripts were no issue really, it was the listening phases that were the most effort for me.

I have slagged off the "Sound Of" list because it names up front the artists they wish to promote, rather than waiting to hear what gets released then promoting / playlisting the best of it. Maybe it was a massive effort for me to do all the above, as I had a day-job, but for a radio station producer, that is their day-job.

Any more for any more?
I am half tempted to start HF10 now - with the sign up thread, participant submission, then first song, I don't think it would crossover with the remaining rounds of Time Machine 70's?

I'm happy for HF10 to start whenever. There's not much going on in January so it would be a welcome distraction for a while!

What's the bet I finish 15th in Haven Factor 10, regardless of who I am mentoring?

Definitely. Everyone will collectively guess your act and conspire against you.

Do we have a quick access to a list of all the acts who have been entered so far?

Am I the only one who's had their list of acts ready to go since halfway through the last one? This wait has been unbearable!

All TBC depending on who wins and what their plans are, but with an early and slightly shorter HF10 we might have time for HF11 in 2022 as well...
