FEEDER - TorpedoRelease Date: March 18, 2022Feeder came back with a bang in 2019 with their tenth studio album, Tallulah, it was the bands first album in almost fifteen years to crack to the top five of the chart. Feeling motivated, band members Grant Nicholas and Taka Hirose immediately began work on a follow up album "Torpedo". “After the frustration of not being able to perform live I really wanted to come back with a bang and a classic heavier but melodic Feeder song,” frontman Grant Nicholas said of ‘Torpedo’ in a statement. “All the emotion and frustration just caused a creative wave. Dynamically and musically Torpedo felt like the obvious choice for us to drop first. The chorus has a thread of positivity that brings light to the darker verses.” Torpedo entered the U.K. album chart at No.5, making it the band’s fifth top 5 album 1. The Healing 8.5 2. Torpedo 8.5 3. When It All Breaks Down 7.5 4. Magpie 8 5. Hide And Seek 6.5 6. Decompress 7.5 7. Wall Of Silence 8 8. Slow Strings 7 9. Born To Love You 8 10. Submission 7.5SummaryI know right, 3 albums in 3 days! But whilst I have a bit of free time best tackle the back log. This is another solid Feeder album, a bit heavier than usual for them so probably more like "Silent Cry" but a bit more melodic with it so maybe a hybrid with that one and their peak melodicness of "Pushing the Senses", I loved all 4 singles, they were all a solid 8+ for me, the rest of the album is classic Feeder, generally uplifting, sometimes loud, sometimes quiet but always with a nice melody and Grant Nicholas distinct vocals with "Born To Love You" the pick of the album tracks. 7.70/10

Still need to check this out - I haven't even played it once yet! I really liked 'Tallulah' but can't say I go back to it very often.

RYAN ADAMS - FM
Release Date: August 19, 2022Limited now to his own indie label PAX-AM Ryan Adams has been releasing his music digitally at his own pace over the last few years, in early summer, he released a double-length acoustic album called "Romeo & Juliet", it was an album planned for release in 2019 but got put on the back burner after the accusations of misconduct side-lined his career. An issue that can't be sidestepped completely because music is consumed within a certain social/cultural/political context and that shadow hangs over the release of his 21st studio album FM. Adams had tours cancelled, lost record contracts and distribution deals, cancelled over serious allegations he was later cleared of by the FBI, since then he issued an apology for his part in the toxic relationships admitting he made mistakes and isn't perfect and did a lengthy expose piece that appeared in Los Angeles Magazine in the August 2021 with the aptly titled “I Felt Like They Were Asking Me to Die,”. Whilst Adams has shown remorse, apologised and admitted he could've treated women better. Lets just say his most vocal accuser, along with his ex wife was ex girlfriend Phoebe Bridgers who has continued to show just how toxic and destructive her mentality is by posting on the day the Queen died "Today is a brutal reminder that war criminals will be honoured while entire populations and societies bear the battle scars of colonial genocide violence, invasion, religious persecution, and white supremacy.", these destructive sociopathic outbursts with a clear disregard for people's feelings don't pass me by, whatever anyone thinks time corrects everything and on that note In May of this year, Ryan Adams played a sold out concert at NYC’s famed Carnegie Hall, to rapturous applause, which led to a feature in Variety titled “Can Ryan Adams Be a Rock Star Again? With a New Team and Return to Concerts, Singer Looks to Move Past Sexual Misconduct Allegations”. Then in August this new 10-track collection was released as a download and added to streaming services, then just yesterday Adams posted he is intending to do a UK tour next April 1. I Want You 9.5 2. Love Me Don’t 7.5 3. Fantasy File 9 4. When She Smiles 8.5 5. Hall Of Shame 7 6. Wild and Hopeless 7.5 7. So Dumb 7.5 8. Fairweather 8 9. Do You Feel 8 10. Someday 7.5SummaryForgetting all the ugliness that FM was born out of, Ryan Adams has channelled all of that to put out a bloody great power pop album, if you like Ryan Adams in full on 80s power pop/indie rock/heartland rock mode, then this is the most inspired he's been in that vein for some time, at least in terms of hooks and arrangements. "I Want You" is the best power pop song of the late 70's but released in 2022, at times on FM, Adams channels his inner Tom Petty/John Mellencamp so for any fans of that kind of music this should go down nicely. "Fantasy File" has some brilliant sleazy saxophone lines, full of soul and just fits the vibe of thrle record. The ten song, 32 minutes of Ryan rocking is a joy, glad he is back, its not like he is R Kelly, Marilyn Manson or H from Steps. He deserves a second chance to be uncancelled and this is solid to good Ryan Adams record, if he does tour again I will be first in line to show my support 8.00/10

I'd say his self titled album in 2014 was a career highlight and personally I loved
Easy Tiger (2007) and Cardinology (2008) era. I have them on vinyl, I did notice Ryan Adams has reconnected with the Cardinals recently and there is talk of reforming Ryan Adams and the Cardinals which would be interesting expecially if he is going on tour

I dont know much of Ryan Adams music, but loved this album, and then I read about all the stuff he's accused of, and the fact he's abused his position in the industry with women, and it taints it.

It is what it is I guess, sh*t sticks, the centre piece of the article compiled by his wife who was getting divorced from him at the time and scorned ex girlfriend with clear sociopathic Amber Heard red flags going on was a third woman he worked with that alleged sexually explicit text messages were sent when she was an underage girl, that's a huge reason why he was cancelled rather than his ex wife and ex gf saying he is a dick but the FBI cleared him and the underage fan later provided a written statement that included, "I was not truthful about my age in my texts and communications with Ryan and I repeatedly told him I was 18."
So if that part of the allegation was a lie, what other parts were lies? I have no doubt a red blooded male, used his talent, recording studio and business to shoot his shot with women, rich people use their money, good looking people use their looks, charismatic people use their charisma, business men use their stability, fancy cars and luxury property, god forbid a introverted white male uses what talent and assets he has to shoot his shot. He might be a dick, he might've been manipulative, not sure any of that is enough to cancel him though, after knowing what they do now women have the choice not to work with him right? The two women named in the piece that said Adams offered to assist them with their music careers then pursued the women romantically, one married the guy and the other dated him for 6 months and got very rich and famous from the arrangement, she has since been proved to be filled with hatred (see her tweet about the Queen). But yes sadly it taints his work and always will
Having watched quite a bit on him including a documentary about his song writing process and his extremely OCD routine, his inability to ignore twitter trolls and struggling to maintain relationships with male bandmates over the years just by arguing with them he is probably autistic or has aspergers, he struggles with people men and women, I'm not making excuses for him but it strikes me more like an attack on him, even if they had a case then they made a huge mistake using a lie as the centre piece of the allegations, the FBI exposed that lie, that will anger a few people but sorry, he is on my uncancelled list

AVRIL LAVIGNE - Love Sux
Release Date: February 25, 2022Ok back onto music because I have an insurmountable back log now, I'm still in the February releases lol, I have to review the new Avril album though because she went pure pop punk on this collaborative effort with John Feldmann (Goldfinger) on bass, Travis Barker (Blink 182) on drums and cameo vocals from Machine Gun Kelly, Blackbear and Mark Hoppus (also Blink 182), produced by Mod Sun, Feldmann and Travis Barker. Love Sux is the seventh studio album by Canadian singer-songwriter Avril Lavigne and peaked at #3 in the UK 1. Cannonball 7 2. Bois Lie (Feat. Machine Gun Kelly) 8 3. Bite Me 8.5 4. Love It When You Hate Me (Feat. blackbear) 8.5 5. Love Sux 8 6. Kiss Me Like The World Is Ending 7.5 7. Avalanche 8 8. Déjà Vu 7.5 9. F.U. 8 10. All I Wanted (Feat. Mark Hoppus) 8 11. Dare To Love Me 7.5 12. Break Of A Heartache 8.5SummaryI love pop punk Avril, the drumming on these tracks is impeccable, really are at the front of the mix, she worked with some pop punk legends to make this album, of course I don't think she will ever top what she released from 2002-2007 but them first few albums were special, this is her best album in the 15 years since though. "Love Sux" is a progressive pop-punk album that delivers that much needed hit of nostalgia, clocking in at 33 minutes so short and sweet, all killer no filler as her ex husband Deryck Whibley used to say 7.91/10

GANG OF YOUTHS - Angel In Realtime
Release Date: February 25, 2022Angel in Realtime (stylised angel in realtime.) is the third studio album by Australian alternative rock band Gang of Youths. It debuted at number one on the ARIA Album Charts, and was supported by a world tour. Lyrically, the album primarily focuses on discovering family identity and coming to terms with loss, written in the aftermath of the death of frontman Dave Le'aupepe's father. A sonic departure from their 2017 album Go Farther in Lightness, Angel in Realtime makes heavy use of vocal samples from Pacific Island choirs and musicians collected by David Fanshawe. The album was preceded by four singles, as well as tracks "Unison" and "The Angel of 8th Ave." from their preceding EP Total Serene. 1. You in Everything 7.5 2. In the Wake of Your Leave 8.5 3. The Angel of 8th Ave. 9 4. Returner 7.5 5. Unison 7 6. Tend the Garden 7.5 7. The Kingdom is Within You 6.5 8. Spirit Boy 7 9. Brothers 6.5 10. Forbearance 8 11. The Man Himself 7.5 12. Hand of God 7 13. Goal of the Century 7.5
SummaryWith a 67 minute run time you might have to set an afternoon aside to listen to this one but it is worth the effort, an often heart-breaking, often life-affirming and always moving album about grief, self-hatred and recovery. The album was preceded by EP Total Serene, which included “The Angel of 8th Ave.”, Le’aupepe’s love letter to his wife, who he sees as a beacon guiding him through his grief, that's still my favourite Gang of Youths song so glad they included it on the album too. Amongst the honest, heart felt, grief stricken lyrics we have a few interesting references lie on "Returner" where he manages to rhyme below average shooter with 90's Argentinean striker Gabriel Batistuta. Overall I wish I could rate this album more highly, there's a lot to like here, the storytelling, the overall vibe but the album in its entirety is half boring, half amazing, the weak middle of the album and hyper extended run time just makes it that more obvious 7.46/10

Angel in Realtime is one of my favourite and most-played of the year so far. Never heard of them before, and I've been prompted to dive back into their earlier work, but I definitely feel they're getting stronger with time

Yeah I'm exited to see what they come up with next, I heard them first in 2017 with "What Can I Do If the Fire Goes Out?" that one skirted around my personal chart but then i lost track of them until the excellent “The Angel of 8th Ave.” from their EP was released just before this album, they were playing a music festival I was going too that was cancelled due to Covid so bit gutted about that, there were a few decent bands playing that I'd never seen before that i missed out on

THE HELLACOPTERS - Eyes Of Oblivion
Release Date: April 1, 2022This is one I've been super excited about, formed in 1994, they released their debut album in 1996 which won a Swedish Grammy for Best Hard Rock Album, followed by a great 12 year career consisting of 7 albums before breaking up in 2008 but 14 years later The Hellacopters are back and better than ever! The Swedish high energy rockers return with a new studio album called "Eyes Of Oblivion", it is the band's first full-length since the release of their temporary farewell record "Head Off" in 2008. Considered one of the most important and influential Swedish rock bands ever, they have achieved two Gold certifications, won the Swedish Grammy and a Kerrang! Award, have amassed 100 million streams to date and have supported and toured with the likes of The Rolling Stones, Kiss, Black Sabbath, ZZ Top and the Foo Fighters. After celebrating a triumphant return to stages all across the world in 2016, 2022 will now mark an exciting new chapter in the history of THE HELLACOPTERS, with an album that sums up what the band delivers like no other: soulful and energetic rock’n’roll! 1. Reap A Hurricane 9.5 2. Can It Wait 8 3. So Sorry I Could Die 9 4. Eyes Of Oblivion 9.5 5. A Plow And A Doctor 7 6. Positively Not Knowing 7.5 7. Tin Foil Soldier 9 8. Beguiled 8.5 9. The Pressure's On 7.5 10. Try Me Tonight 8
CD2 1. Eleanor Rigby (THE BEATLES Cover) 7.5 2. Circus (STRING DRIVEN THING Cover) 8.5 3. I Am The Hunted (G.B.H. Cover) 6.5 4. I Ain’t No Miracle Worker (THE BROGUES Cover) 9
SummaryFrom the balls out Scorpions esq arena rock of "Reap A Hurricane" to the hard rockin’ punk overtones of "Beguiled" via the soulful bluesy swaggering ballad of "So Sorry I Could Die" and the 70s Glam Rock of "Tin Foil Soldier" the band take the listener on a journey through the last fifty-years of rock. I have always enjoyed The Hellacopters but it is rare when a band releases the best album of their career 28 years in!, the chemistry and a total mastery of their craft has been achieved here, the driving beats and hard rock riffs that don’t let up from beginning to end then just for good measure they throw in a bonus EP with 4 excellent covers. After that extended break, The Hellacopters come back to show everyone why they are one of the best rock bands in the world. Eyes of Oblivion is incredible from the first note, and it continues to get better with each passing listen. Check this album out as soon as humanly possible. 8.35/10

The Gang of Youths album is very good, but I confess I haven't played it much since it came out because I found it really too depressing for me.
Hellacopters I should check out as I enjoyed the title track!

I was another who got into them through ‘Angel in 8th Avenue’ I was less excited by the next two singles and then ‘in the wake of your leave’ just got me back in big time.
One of my favourite albums of the year but it’s not an easy listen sometimes.

Yeah I'd have to agree with that, very heavy album (lyrically), maybe one of deeper albums of the year, really self reflecting and personal, there will be 3 or 4 songs here for sure that will go on my regular rotation

THE MYSTERINES - ReelingRelease Date: March 11, 2022The Mysterines have enjoyed some incredible success to date. This includes a sold-out tour just before lockdown in February 2020 a 2nd sold out tour coming in autumn, playlists at BBC Radio 1 and BBC 6 Music and their debut album "Reeling" that peaked at #9 in the chart. The Mysterines are a break out alternative rock band from Liverpool with stomping grungy riffs and a brilliant lead vocalist in Lia Metcalfe A note from Lia on the first single off the album: In My Head appears to be a love song but that was not the original intention. I did want it to superficially be seen as that but in reality, it's a song about people who struggle with their mental health. Partly autobiographical it is about how sometimes life can feel like you’re being haunted by something out of your control. 1. Life’s A Bitch (But I Like It So Much) 8 2. Hung Up 9 3. Reeling 7.5 4. Old Friends Die Hard 8 5. Dangerous 8.5 6. On The Run 7.5 7. Under Your Skin 7 8. The Bad Thing 8 9. In My Head 7.5 10. Means To Bleed 7.5 11. All These Things 8 12. Still Call You Home 7.5 13. The Confession Song 7
SummarySludgy grooves, stomping riffs, The Mysterines have a dark dramatic sound vaguely reminiscent of the music you’d expect from sleazy underground bars from the 80’s that have questionable decor, stains on the floor and toilets you'd want to avoid. When I first heard them I thought they sound like a more mainstream version of Distillers and giving the album a full spin there are definite parallels there. I can safely say that this album cements The Mysterines as one of the most vigorous female-fronted rock bands to break through in recent times along with Amyl And The Sniffers. The album was perfected over lockdown which gave the band extra time to perfect the album they wanted to present to the world. As lead singer, Lia Metcalfe, put it in an interview with DIY Magazine, It gave her time to try to craft a definitive story on the album, exploring and expanding on ideas, pushing that creative freedom to its limits. 7.76/10

PLACEBO - Never Let Me Go
Release Date: March 25, 2022Never Let Me Go is the eighth studio album by British alternative rock band Placebo, recorded between 2019 and 2021. It is Placebo's first studio album in over eight years, following 2013's Loud Like Love. It is also their first album to be recorded as a duo, following the departure of drummer Steve Forrest in 2015. The first single from the album was "Beautiful James", released on 16 September 2021. The second single, "Surrounded by Spies", was released on 9 November 2021. The third single, "Try Better Next Time" was released on 11 January 2022. The fourth and final single, "Happy Birthday in the Sky", was released on 4 March 2022. The album achieved strong chart performance, peaking at # 1 in the UK Indie Chart, # 1 in the Austrian, Dutch, and German album charts, and # 3 in the UK Albums Chart. 1. Forever Chemicals 8.5 2. Beautiful James 9 3. Hugz 7 4. Happy Birthday in the Sky 7.5 5. The Prodigal 7.5 6. Surrounded by Spies 7 7. Try Better Next Time 9 8. Sad White Reggae 8 9. Twin Demons 7.5 10. Chemtrails 7.5 11. This Is What You Wanted 7 12. Went Missing 7 13. Fix Yourself 7.5
SummaryThe album starts with a bang with a solid industrial feel opening track delivering lines like “It’s so good when I feel nothing” over a bed of sinister synths and grimey guitars, followed by the first single on the album which was a very good Placebo single. I have enjoyed the more electro direction the band moved into since 2009s "Battle for the Sun", they've always done their own thing, and "Never Let Me Go" is no exception, thematically the songs are all about the pain of a dying world and most of the songs have a gloomy/bleek feel until the bouncy "Try Better Next Time", which was another very good single. So the boys are back with a little more synth and the usual amount of brooding with a solid album that maybe goes on for three songs too long 7.69/10

KING GIZZARD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD - Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava
Release Date: October 7, 2022King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard have just dropped their 21st album. On top of this, they’re also set to release two more new albums this month: Laminated Denim (12th October) and Changes (28th October). They are quite prolific and hard to keep up with, I o own their 7th album though "Paper Mâché Dream Balloon" which was recorded using only acoustic instruments including a bongo and clarinet, oh and the odd flute solo. Their new album "Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava" is more of a freestyle of acid jazz fusion and psychedelic rock, loosely formed around the seven subjects in the title 1. Mycelium 8.5 2. Ice V 7.5 3. Magma 7 4. Lava 8.5 5. Hell's Itch 7 6. Iron Lung 7.5 7. Gliese 710 7
SummaryIf you’re into experimental music which throws itself into the abyss for the sake of creativity and jams, then this is the album for you. I am already 25 minutes down the rabbit hole so decided to get a review up whilst I go. Highlight of the album for me is the opening track, which is a wild trip out about mushrooms, having (unrelated) just listened to a three-hour podcast about the mycelium network I thought it was both an interesting subject matter and a catchy almost reggae like jam. "Ice V" was the first single released pre-album and is a good acid jazz rock song, my next highlight is "Lava" which is a psychedelic rock song that builds into a crescendo a lot like a volcano erupting to chants of “The volcano is death, the lava is death. Death is life, the lava is life”. Whilst Mycelium and Lava are 7 minute songs they are the shortest tracks on the album with some of the songs here clocking in at over 13 minutes such as "Hells Itch". In short song good songs here but some go on a bit too long 7.57/10
