Some real surprises in there for me this year. I honestly thought Kristen and Kirsten were both going to be snubbed considering how the rest of the season has gone for them both so far.
Also wasn't expecting Don't Look Up to put in quite a showing. I enjoyed the film but couldn't necessarily say I was all that impressed by it.
Very happy to see Dune up there with the second most nods, really hope it can take a good few home. An undeniable masterpiece. Power of the Dog was also great but for me it was down to the acting and the source material, don't think it excelled in enough of the other categories to take Best Picture.
I'm not surprised, but I am quite disappointed that The Green Knight has been totally overlooked this season.

Oooh I've actually seen a couple of these and heard about others from my daughter. Belfast, Hand of God and Dont look up are all good, and my daughter loved Dune, must try and see some of the others as well. Any others on Netflix like Dont look up and Hand of God?

Pretty sure the front-runner Power Of The Dog is on Netflix, don't recall seeing any of the others on there.

Surprised that House of Gucci was as ignored as it was.

Despite none of the 'big' wins, Dune taking home 6 is a very satisfying outcome. Not sure any of the other nominees in those categories stood a chance though.

No talk of the slap by Will Smith on Chris Rock after a joke aimed at his wife's short hair style which is due to alopecia?

Pretty tasteless joke from Chris Rock. Joking about people's physical appearance is one thing (playground-level humour IMO) but when it's due to a medical condition, that was low Will Smith shouldn't have hit him but it's hard to say Rock didn't deserve it.

Hmmm. That's the general consensus I've seen, that Chris deserved what he got. I have a suspicion that violence is only being condoned in this instance because the slap was delivered by the Fresh Prince. Had the roles been reversed I think the public sentiment would be quite different.
Even the argument that he was defending his wife's honour falls flat on it's face when you consider that Will himself first laughed and smiled at the joke...

Okay, I'll be honest - all my knowledge of this is second-hand as I didn't watch the ceremony or the clips of the incident. I'll grant that it changes things somewhat if he originally appeared to enjoy the joke...
The impression I'd got though is that Smith's violent response has been condemned rather than condoned by a lot of people (you know, leaving aside the important consideration that he isn't facing charges). It's a shame he couldn't have hit back with a catty response during his acceptance speech instead.
Will was out of line but it doesn't change the fact that Rock's joke was utterly despicable. I know several women who have been affected by alopecia and I'd have felt utterly humiliated in her shoes to be mocked on such a public platform, live on TV.

I think Mr Smith has anger issues? And then he warbled on about God in his acceptance speech, and does Jaden need him to stick up for her? Me Tarzan, you Jane? Dont get me wrong the comments are awful, assume they were off the cuff rather than scripted, as surely someone should have said, dont make those comments?

I think there are a few things which run a lot deeper than the surface suggests.
Jada has often called Will's masculinity into question in very public forums, and pretty much admitted that that is the reason their relationship isn't monogamous. I'd imagine she was very happy her hubby took action like that, even if it didn't come naturally and was almost certainly evoked from his wife's reaction.
Chris Rock also made a joke about Jada in the 2016 ceremony when he hosted, it being well reported that she didn't appreciate one bit.
The joke itself was distasteful, and I'd wager it struck a nerve with Jada, as it would anyone having to dig so deep to find new self-confidence, especially in such public circumstances.
But all that being said, the joke in no way warranted that reaction, and in the end it's going to be Will remembered badly for this. So I hope it was worth it. On the flip of that though, people demanding Will hand his Oscar back should be ashamed of themselves for how silent / relenting they were with allowing Harvey Weinstein to keep hold of his many statues.

I have a few opinions on this first Will Smith laughed at the joke, not just a chuckle, he was p*ssing himself laughing for a good 5 seconds (which would of hurt her more than the joke?) before looking over to Jada and realising he was in the dog house and that's when he got up to confront the host
A few year ago Will Smith/the Smiths (the family not the band) said they were boycotting the Oscars and Chris Rock joked that's like Will boycotting sleeping with Rhianna, your not invited anyway and they took that personally, that's maybe partly why they don't like each other
Everyone knows award shows these days are very likely to be a roast and if you declare that your "boycotting the Oscars", don't be surprised when you turn up to the Oscars that your on the hit list, especially if your not respected due to the open relationship/emasculating comments, this whole thing can be filed in the Will Smith problems that Will Smith created file, from his previous "beef", claiming to be boycotting the Oscars, doing stupid interviews about his personal life and laughing at the joke way too long to then over reacting and assaulting the host
I mean defending family members is engrained in all of us but if that family member is going to turn up to an awards show style roast, accept the red carpet treatment, sit in the front row drinking Champaign and laugh at all the other personal jokes that are the expense of other people, I dunno, is it not fair game? distasteful yes but If you play the game, there is a chance the bad bits will happen along with all the good, you took the champagne and enjoyed when other people were the punch line.
and then 2 weeks ago, Bafta host Rebel Wilson said: “Personally I thought Will Smith’s best performance in the past year has been being OK with all of his wife’s boyfriends.”
Is that any better? I mean at the end of the day Will Smith looks not ok with whatever dynamic he and his wife have going on, this over reaction just highlights it further

There is certainly plenty to speculate on because it wasn't normal behaviour, looked like a man that needs to see a psychologist ASAP

Warning:(Party pooper alert) Here we have vain women wearing gowns worth tens of thousands of dollars and jewelry worth even more. Meanwhile Ukrainians in Mariupol have no food, water, electricity or heat.
Not a Kodak moment as far as I'm concerned.

I mean your not wrong, there are problems and there are problems and in the big picture a multi millionaire with short hair being reminded she has short hair through a tasteless joke might have ruined her champagne supper but it isn't exactly high on the list of world problems, they make beautiful wigs made from real hair these days that look absolutely stunning, not saying she should have to wear one but she has the option if its effecting her emotionally, for most of us the cost wouldn't be sustainable for us lowly peasants, its not like the 80s anymore with badly fitting hair pieces
