529 Phrenology - The Roots
I am open to other genres you know. This album just has such a great vibe, only one hit of it at the time, 'The Seed (2/0)' but it since has become a bit of a classic. Only reaching #112 in the UK and #28 in the US
528 Colour It In - The Maccabees
I was quite slow to love Maccabees but i think they got better with each record they made. This was their debut album and it reached #24 in the Uk in 2007.
527 Join With Us - The Feeling
This time its a second album and I really loved their debut, it has so many sounds that reminded me of music I loved in the 70s and early 80s. This followup had great songs as well but didnt quite have that same magic. It was a UK number one though in 2008.
526 Silence Is Easy - Starsailor
Another followup album and again similiar to The Feeling, it has some brilliant songs but overall I still prefer the debut eventhough 'Alcoholic' i hated. This album raeched #2 in the UK.
525 Nixon - Lambchop
Sometimes one track can have so much power. At random times I can just feel I need to hear 'Up With People' that song is by far the bands best but its usually enough to make me play the whole record. This was their fifth album and is critically acclaimed as their best. Their whole catalogue is worth checking out but just have never put the effort in. 'Nixon' reached #60 in the Uk in 2000.

524 Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes
Probably the band that kicked of the folk revival in the charts in the late 00s-early 10s, defintely a record you need to be in the mood for. I like it more than I thought as it finishes just outside the top 50 for 2008. Their debut album peaked at #3 in the UK and #36 in the US
523 Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles
Another debut and not an easy listen. Very harsh almost industrial electro pop. Fronted by Alice Glass check out her solo stuff thsi year she still sounds like a fresh new artist, teh album raeched #47 in the UK in 2008 also.
522 Backspacer - Pearl Jam
The last Pearl Jam I bought physically, think I only have a few. This was their 9th album and gave them another US charttopper and raeched #9 in the UK in 2009.
521 Still Not Getting Any - Simple Plan
I own this one as well, the only album I have of theirs. Just great pop/punk they were neverr on eof the best but they are likeable. It got to #3 in the US in 2004
520 Two - The Calling
I had a bit of a problem with The Calling, I thought they were a poor mans Goo Goo Dolls and was not happy that they got big success here before they did, that wrong was corrected much later thanks to X Factor.
But I do like them especially the debut, still too come of course. Their followup album 'Two ' has some good songs as well. It reached #9 in the UK and #54 in the US in 2004

519 A New Morning - Suede
Yes outside the top 500 for a Suede album but 'A New Morning' is not very loved in general but its still Suede so still good just a shadow of what they were once capable of. It raeched #24 in the Uk in 2002.
518 We Are The Night - The Chemical Brothers
They have two albums in the top 500 this one falls short. No such thing as a bad Chemical Brothers record but I haven't found myself returning to it or any of the tracks really. It was a Uk number one and #65 in the US in 2007.
517 Rockin' The Suburbs - Ben Folds
First solo album from Ben Folds and only one on the list, most known for the titel track its a good listen. It raeched #42 in the US and #73 in the UK in 2001
516 St. Jude - Courteeners
There debut album with many of their most memorable sonsg including 'Not Nineteen Forever', 'Falcon' was almnost included until I spotted it was an early 2010 release. It woudl be higher but I was never super into them. It reached #4 in the UK in 2008.
515 Man In The Machine - Royworld
Another act that makes those forgotten track lists, they were tipped for big things but only managed to score one top 40 hit with 'Dust'. The album went to #52 in 2008.

Lets get to 500 today so we can start proper
514 And Out Come The Wolves - Rancid
First of two albums for the punk rock band and their side project will also appear twice as well. Not as filled with bangers as the album which wiull be much higher but still a good listen even if its not essential in anyway. It reached #11 in the Us and #41 in the Uk in 2009.
513 Shine On - Jet
Same can also be said for Jet's second album whicuh is really jsut more of the same, their debut is still to appear of course. It raeched #13 in the Uk and #16 in the US in 2006.
512 Welcome to the Night Sky - Wintersleep
Third album for the Canadian indie/rock band, I thought this was a breakthrough record but didnt even chart in their native Canada. The band did receivea JUNO award for it in 2008.
511 Haunted Cities - Transplants
Before Travis Barker was featuring on every vaguely pop punk record, this was his highest profile side project. Made up of members of rancid including singer Tim Armstrong. This was their 2nd album and although good , not on par with their debut which I love, expect it much much higher. It reached #28 in the US and #72 in the Uk in 2005.
510 All or Nothing - The Subways
Bit of an admin error here, I'm sure their will be more but there is no way this should be higher than their debut. There really isn't much between them but still. This album peaked at #17 in the Uk in 2008.

509 Lovers - The Sleepy Jackson
In a weird coincidence i actually heard a track from this on NME Radio yesterday 'Vampure Racecourse' probably their most wellknown song. From Australia they sadly didnt hang around very along. Must admit I dont remember their singles from the followup album. This one did chart in the Uk reaching #69 in 2003.
508 Primary Colours - The Horrors
The Horrors are a weird band, I never got the hype with them at first. Their debut album is pretty awful imo but this 2nd album totally changed things and their 3rd album was maybe even better again. Just a great mix of so mnay indie genres never knew they had it in them. It raeched #25 in the UK in 2009.
507 Saturday Night Wrist - Deftones
Not a classic Deftones album by any stretch but its still Deftones so its still very good but like most of the albums in this section, why would I choose toi play this one over others. It raeched #10 in the Us and #33 in the UK in 2006
506 The Sun And The Moon - The Bravery
I think The Bravery were really underrated and I think the anti-hype was really unfair. This second album has some really good songs on it. But the backlash was to fierce it didn't even chart in the UK but still made #'24 in the US.
505 The Great Eastern - The Delgados
Ten years ago this probably would be higher but I doint really listen to this kind of indie much anymore but this is probably their best album. It raeched #72 in the Uk in 2000.

504 Anniemal - Annie
Every few years a potential pop star becomes more dear to Indie fans and hipsters rather than the mainstream. Ands a perfect example was Annie. This was the debut album from the Norwegian singer and it plays like a greatest hits just so much fun to listen to. She did manage to have one hit in the Uk with 'Chewing Gum' but she desrved so much more. The album only reached #101 in 2004.
503 The Open Door - Evanescence
These albums that just miss out are top 500 level now so very unlucky to miss the main cut. This was the rock band's second album and stuffed full of as many hits as the debut, maybe none quite so memorable but still a great album. It was a US chart topper and reached #2 in the Uk in 2006.
502 Riot Act - Pearl Jam
Another good album from Pearl Jam. 'I am Mine' is one of their best songs imo. Still huge in US it raeched #5 but jsut #34 here in 2002.
Now it was hard to decide who woudl be 501 but I felt I had to include the others in the bottom 5 in the mian list.
501 Little Kix - Mansun
And its a shame but thsi third album just never gets the attention of the previous two, stil lhas so many good sonsg and on eof their best singles in 'I Can Only Disappoint U'. They will release another album in 2004 posthumously. This still did ok reaching #12 in the UK.

At last we can start posting properly. I will say I am attempting to play all these albums in full but some I did give up and skip some tracks but still tried to give them all at least 30 seconds.
500 Music - Madonna
What better way to start proper than with the Queen Of Pop. She has two albums in the top 500 and I much prefer the other one but this is really good as well, as long as we ignore 'American Pie'. I played a few seconds and that was it but its an extra track anyway.
Released in 2000 , it was a worldwide number one album of course and is 5x platinum in the Uk and 3x platinum in the US.
Produced again by William Orbit who worked on 'Ray Of Light' this is my favourite track.
Madonna - Don't Tell Me

499 Daisy - Brand New
This was their 4th album and is a much darker and difficult listen than their previous records much more post hardcore than emo or rock. they have three albums in the top 500, their debut misses out only because I haven't managed to give it any attention yet, I bought all the others.
Although this is a quite downbeat it was their biggest hit in the US up to this point reaching #6. It got to #47 here which remains their career best, their comeback record in 2017 would be a US number one!
Best listened to as a complete piece. They did release 'At The Bottom' as a promo single in 2009.

Wait their debut misses out?!
It's a great classic pop punk album, before they got more experimental.

498 Ready For The Weekend - Calvin Harris
Talk about being in the right place at the ritght time, Calvin changes up his sound just as EDM is exploding in the US and he is about to be the most famous DJ in the world, we did not see this coming. This album is just a total party album, I still think calvin shouldnt sing but his tarcks are so good it doesnt matter that hsio vocals are so weak. It was a UK number one in 2009 but he hasn't charted in the UK yet.

497 Bloodflowers - The Cure
This was the Cure's eleventh album and it went pretty much under the radar with me at the time. I totally ignored it while I was picking songs for HF but after giving it a playthrough last week, it is a really good record. Ok it doesnt have any hit or well known anthems but its also pretty solid. And yes its another album that suffers from why would I listen to that one?? But if you never have give it a go, you might find a new favourite that you didn't expect. It reached #9 in the UK and #16 in the US in 2000. No singles were released of it either but this was a radio track.

496 DECEMBERUNDERGROUND - AFI
Although this was AFI's 7th album, it was only the third record I knew and the 2nd I bought. I wouldln't say it was a disappointmnet after 'Sing The Sorrow', it just couldn't compare really. Saying that I would say this was their last great album, the records since had their moments but they just all seem to lack something. This was a US number one and #16 in the UK in 2006.
AFI - Miss Murder

495 The Rising Tide - Sunny Day Real Estate
No self respecting emo fan can not go back and check out Sunny Day Real Estate if they missed them first time round. I must admit i was pleasantly surprised, they were closer to the Jimmy Eat World side of emo than Dashboard Confessional. According to Raste Your Music this is their least popular album but its the only one we have in the 00s. It reached #97 in the US in 2000.

494 18 - Moby
Coming of the back of his biggest record by far 'Play', everyone was ready for more and '18' does not disappoint. Its maybe a little darker than 'Play' but the quality is still there for sure. It was another worldwide chart topper, platinum in the UK and Gold in the US. Not surprisingly this is his highest entry on this list.

I like 'Music' but agree, it's not a patch on the other one that's still to come. 'Don't Tell Me' is one of my favourite later Madonna singles. Going back a bit, I also have the Fleet Foxes album - I think I bought it because of the album art and my being an old paintings nerd I admit it never really took with me; the whole acoustic folk thing in the 2010s wasn't my jam.
